@d00bZubElEk the reason he made this save was his athletic ability. he stretched his whole body about as far as it could go. With an intuition that is kind blowing
@@lo-fi8558 Ya I agree, back when I wrote this comment I didn’t appreciate the skill of goalie positioning and how being in the right spot in certain situations alone is impressive. With that said, there are definitely some saves where the goalie is out of position and the player shoots it towards the goalie in stead of the open net, but this Nabokov save Richards probably couldn’t have shot it any better yet Nabokov came across. I still get chills watching it.
Yeah, I know the Caron save, that crazy stick save, the spinning backhand save.... I get it. But if you had to pick one save that exemplifies pure fundamental execution in action...
henrik pavel no, he may be good, but in no way has quick made a save like that. Closest he has to a save like that was win he controlled it with his mind before it went in.
+henrik pavel No way in hell my friend. I've never seen Quick make a save of that magnitude. I have respect for Quick's skills in the net, but I've never seen him make a save like that.
Easily 1 of the top 5 displays of goaltending we got in playoffs history turco and nabokov were absolutely lights out throughout this whole game it was a spectacle to watch this game
I still love going back and watching clips of Stars vs Sharks series of these playoffs. Nabakov is pretty damn amazing. My team (stars) pretty much stopped being good right after they beat the Sharks in that 4OT game.
cheez gonewild I think stalock has the potential to become a solid starter, but it will take time. Both goalies are just too inconsistent. Sharks need a new GM who knows what he's doing when it comes to trading players.
Justin Denney Well, they fired they're head coach... is that a good thing i mean i liked the old coach he knew what he was doing but yes, they do need a new GM.
Imagine McDavid leaning into a one timer to win a series, and that's basically what you have with Richard's nailing a one timer. Home ice crowd 100% thought it was gg when he wound up like that
I was in the arena. It took me and my dad like 15 seconds before we realized he saved it. We were jumping up and down highfiving each other and the fans sitting around us and it slowly dawned on us that the goal horn hadn't sounded yet. We were stunned in disbelief, even after we saw the replay a few times.
I remember watching this game and staying up till the wee hours of the morning when I had an 8:00am class. I landed up missing that class, but I don't regret it. I knew Richards was there and I thought game over. Save of the decade by a mile. Some may say other saves are better, but the situation in which the save was made in... OT to eliminate the sharks. 4 overtimes... 8th longest game ever!
as a collegiate goalie, I model my play by studying Nabakov, but i cant believe he makes this save... unless someone has suited up in 60 lbs of gear, and gotten on ice, they will never be able to appreciate the level of athleticism it took Nabby to slide over the far post so quickly while still being in the butterfly. amazing.
I played summer pickup against Nabby in Redwood City for 5 or 6 years, and it was amazzzzing...his ability to track, reset, square up, etc As a smaller (by todays standards) goalie he used everything to stop the pucks and the way he controlled it, using his whole body (arms/chest) as gloves taught me a lot! and what most people dont know is he has a great sense of humor!
i too remember staying up late to watch that game... it felt like it would never end. but this save was just incredible...no one could even fathom a more breathtakingly exciting moment! the reaction of the fans says it all. they thought it was in. every viewer thought it was in. fuck, every human being thought it was in! and nabakov just grabbed all that emotion into the greatest glove save of all time! plus the morrow hit afterwards. what a game!
I think that may have been the best save I've ever seen. A couple of sprawling saves I've seen from Hasek and Boucher were impressive, but especially given the gravity of the situation (elimination playoff game in OT), this has to be the greatest save I've ever seen.
for those of you that didn't get to see this game..i'm s orry..probobly the best of my lifetime. One of the best goalie duels ever. Turco- 61 saves on 62 shots. Nabokov 53 saves on 55 shots. Triple OT. Captain Morrow with the game winning goal and hit on Michalek..phenomenal game.
@Douger666 Nonono. Low glove side. you have to rotate your stick to get a piece of it, so you wont give up a worse rebound. Its hard to twist your arm in that direction.
Stopping a one-timer from point-blank range, in playoff OT, with your team's season on the line. Nabokov with one of the greatest saves I've ever seen.
Talk about desperation. Nabokov put absolutely everything in his body to get to that puck. I remember watching this live and I kept thinking that there was no way he got to it. Just an incredible save. Both goalies really stood on their heads this game and this game proves that a 2-1 contest can be just as, if not more, exciting than a high scoring game. One of the best games since the lockout IMO.
In my personal (and professional) opinion, this guy is the best goalie in the NHL right now! I was watching this game and when he made this save I literally jumped from my seat. Definately the save of the year. Also game 2 of the 1st round vs. the Flames he was insane!
yeah that's true. But to us Sharks fans it was like a breath of life. We were looking to come back from 0-3 to win the series. Adrenaline, plus this amazing looking save was the best thing we've seen all year. Plus, Nabby's an amazing goalie. Should've won the Vezina!!
No, it was recently changed (post lockout). It gets mentioned every so often during games and video reviews. The camera is straight down but the net is slightly angled so there is no question whether a puck goes over the goal line or not. No goal.
@BarryMcCawkiner it's not McLellan that makes the decisions, nabby's the one that decides whether he wants to play or not during both regular and post season.
Not only the save of the year for Nabokov's reach, timing & athleticism , but considering the context being in OT with the Sharks season on the line (down 3-2 in series), I agree with as The save of the Decade (2000's) and shortlist to best save of all-time.
What I'm saying is that if the crossbar was perfectly lined up with the goal line and the camera was directly above, you wouldn't need to directly see the goal line. There would be no distortion because of angle, and it would be much easier to determine goal or no goal.
It's too bad he never won a cup with San Jose, but he'll be remembered as a Shark forever! I remember staying up so late watching this game (I'm in Canada) and I thought the game was over, only to be amazed by Nabokov.
I just saw the caron save and it was sweet, but what makes this one better in my mind was that this save occurred in overtime in the playoffs last year in overtime and if this puck goes in, it's elimination for the sharks.
Everyone talks about the camera angles and such, but what about the ref? He was waving it off from the second Nabokov caught it. He had a better view than anyone and there was no doubt in his mind.
ya im a fan. and i agree that nabby doesn have the puck handling skills of say brodeur or dipietro but damn he makes up for it in athleticism and his ability to not give up on the puck.
LOL the fans were all like " YEAAAA " and then all of a sudden they just drop silent and btw this is a great glove save man its not just " A glove save " my friend
I watched that whole game, and am neither a Sharks nor Stars fan, and I ended up staying up until close to midnight, and had to wake up at 3 for work the next day. Too exciting of a game to go to sleep on.
This was not only one of the best saves ever, but it was also a save that involved skill rather than luck.
Most desperation saves are both skill and luck. This one more skill than luck, some saves almost purely luck.
As a stars fan it hurts to watch this :(
@d00bZubElEk the reason he made this save was his athletic ability. he stretched his whole body about as far as it could go. With an intuition that is kind blowing
Insee what you mean, but when players shoot it right at a goalie, (which happened here) the goalie made a really good game time read, not lucky.
@@lo-fi8558 Ya I agree, back when I wrote this comment I didn’t appreciate the skill of goalie positioning and how being in the right spot in certain situations alone is impressive. best save ever. and chris cuthbert with the great call.
Arguably the greatest save in the history of the NHL, Pure skill from Nabby. Not to mention it was in overtime in the playoffs.
I still come back to watch this save my all time favourite goalie
If you wanna watch the highlights to this game it is easily one of the best displays of goaltending between Turco and Nabokov
Yeah, I know the Caron save, that crazy stick save, the spinning backhand save.... I get it.
But if you had to pick one save that exemplifies pure fundamental execution in action...
It's either Caron or this as my favorite save ever.
That has god to be one of the best saves ever made.
now 2015 Jonathan Quick and lot of goalie's can make this kind of save over 10 time's a game
henrik pavel no, he may be good, but in no way has quick made a save like that. Closest he has to a save like that was win he controlled it with his mind before it went in.
He went from down on both knees to making that save in under a second. That's just a silly statement henrik.
+henrik pavel No way in hell my friend. I've never seen Quick make a save of that magnitude. I have respect for Quick's skills in the net, but I've never seen him make a save like that.
+John Oster This was a legendary save, but Quick actually came pretty close this year, that late 2nd period stick save on Couture was unbelievable.
SAVE OF THE CENTURY
Watched this game live, still think about this save all these years later. One of the best ever.
Easily 1 of the top 5 displays of goaltending we got in playoffs history turco and nabokov were absolutely lights out throughout this whole game it was a spectacle to watch this game
bless nabby.
my personal favourite goalie
I still love going back and watching clips of Stars vs Sharks series of these playoffs. Nabakov is pretty damn amazing.
My team (stars) pretty much stopped being good right after they beat the Sharks in that 4OT game.
nabby should be traded back to San Jose for stalock. finish his great career in the place it started.
Just signed with SJ today :)
ive heard that they want to trade niemi, so have stalock as a starter and nabby as a backup would be pretty cool.
ECH0ChAOs niemi is no good i lost faith in him stalock up and coming?
cheez gonewild I think stalock has the potential to become a solid starter, but it will take time. Both goalies are just too inconsistent. Sharks need a new GM who knows what he's doing when it comes to trading players.
Justin Denney Well, they fired they're head coach... is that a good thing i mean i liked the old coach he knew what he was doing but yes, they do need a new GM.
It's incredible how flexible and athletic these goals are
honestly this is one of the BEST saves i have ever seen..on youtube, enternet, or in person...thats incredible
my heart skipped a beat at this moment i thought it was all over. I was in in awe after i found out he made the save.
Nabokov had the most suberb reflexes of any goalie I have ever seen.. This is a perfect save. Like the King, Nabby should have had a Cup.
Save of the decade for sure!
This isnt save of the year or decade, this is *the* save
i miss you nabby ;n;
Best save ever. Doesn't get any better than this.
I love how every fan celebrated like it was in.
Imagine McDavid leaning into a one timer to win a series, and that's basically what you have with Richard's nailing a one timer. Home ice crowd 100% thought it was gg when he wound up like that

@@Kreege Nice story. At least you won the game in the end if I'm not mistaken.
I was right there I had such a great view of that save even I thought it had gone in. That was the best save I have ever seen
Too bad the Sharks couldn't win to keep the season going after that amazing save! I remember watching it live and that blew my mind!
i remember watching him do this and score a goal. he inspired me to become a goaltender in high school.
I remember watching this live. The best save I've ever seen in my life.

this is an amazing save... one of the best saves ever..
I still love watching this clip. What a game.
This is the year!! Sharks in 2009!
It can't get any better than this !!
this is one of the best saves of the century. game saver!
that's gotta be one of the best saves I've ever seen, gonna miss ya nabby
I could watch this on repeat and not get bored
I played summer pickup against Nabby in Redwood City for 5 or 6 years, and it was amazzzzing...his ability to track, reset, square up, etc As a smaller (by todays standards) goalie he used everything to stop the pucks and the way he controlled it, using his whole body (arms/chest) as gloves taught me a lot! and what most people dont know is he has a great sense of humor!
sheer brilliance. couldnt have said it better

GO NABOKOV!
that was one of my favorite games ever i stayed up all night watching it =)
I think that may have been the best save I've ever seen. A couple of sprawling saves I've seen from Hasek and Boucher were impressive, but especially given the gravity of the situation (elimination playoff game in OT), this has to be the greatest save I've ever seen.

PRICELESS!
i love how all the fans were in a state of shock when they saw that!
@Douger666 Nonono. Low glove side. you have to rotate your stick to get a piece of it, so you wont give up a worse rebound. Its hard to twist your arm in that direction.
End of 2010 season. Goodbye Nabokov, goodbye my friend. You have been the one. You have been the one for us.
I miss him. He was such a fucking amazing goalie.
Remember him since the mid of 90s.
hahah wow, thats one of the greatest saves i've ever seen, the crowd's reaction makes it so perfect.
Who’s here after that insane save by Jake oettengier?
yea lol, im a ranger fan from NY, but the flames second, and i follow them a lot, i also kinda like the canucks, and that really was an amazing save!
amazing, so was the kipprusoff save this year too
yea, that was a seriously amazing game, both goalies played fantastically
to quote the man - "That's more than a save, that's sheer brilliance!"
CLASSIC SERIES
Stars fan here....I wouldn't say this if we ended up losing but that remains the best save I've ever seen.

i remember that, he always seems to be huge in the playoffs
I remember watching this live. I literally jumped outta my seat.
I remember that save :D
Nabby is the best goaltender in the League. Certainly has the best glove hand. He did it in the splits too. I just love him :)
amazing save

I was at this game, 1st row, 2nd level, right along the goal line. I swear to this day that puck was in...
Magic hands. Great save!
The commentary makes it a 1000 times better
This game was an awesome goaltending battle between Nabby and Turco!
i'm a ducks fan, but hockey fan above all. greatest save of the post lockout era to date
Wow. Absolutely legendary save. I dont think anything rivals this.

oh man
My favorite goalie of alltime
One of the best saves of all time.
I saw that save live on my television.
I was jumping in my room at 1h00 am haha
This was such a tense game
yeah!
he will be our goalie №1 at olympics 2010.
I remember watching this game live, I literally jumped off my seat when he made that save. Too bad the Sharks eventually lost.
still the best save i've ever seen... at least in recent memory
Everyone talks about the camera angles and such, but what about the ref? He was waving it off from the second Nabokov caught it.
He had a better view than anyone and there was no doubt in his mind.
best save i have ever seen in the nhl amazing
Am I the only one who gets goosebumps while watching this? Simpy impossible...
awsomme! thats just amazing
@MysteriousMrX did u see how close the puck was to crossing the line? save of the decade for sure.
amazing as hell save nabokov i can't belive that didn't go in nice reflexes
i still cant believe he stopped that puck..after it deflected on the first shot and he was already down..UNREAL!
ya im a fan. and i agree that nabby doesn have the puck handling skills of say brodeur or dipietro but damn he makes up for it in athleticism and his ability to not give up on the puck.
if you guys have watched belfours save its weird because its nearly the same type of save off the same type of shot from a player with the number 91
Verbal agreement with Philly! I like the progress
holy shit i was watching this when it happened and all i can say is...
amazing
may be the best save i have ever seen
ever
