    Look in the party supplies section- sometimes they have canned heat. It’s not hot enough to cook rice and beans, but it will heat up a can of soup. And it’s safe to use indoors, thus good for “stealth” cooking if you feel hiding food from your neighbors is a good idea.

    You're right about some things being slightly cheaper else where. Oh, for those that may not know, you can order things (online) in bulk from them and have it shipped to your local store for free; then you can just go pick it up.
    Also my husband used to 'fuss' because I was taking a bit longer in our nearby stores when we first moved here. I just explained I was doing recon. I wanted to know where I could get the best price, etc. Now, when he needs to go into town for something, he'll ask me to look at his list and give him a total price and where to go. 🤣

    Right on brother, thank you for all the great content, I fear I've fallen off the deep end and buying everything in sight and having to pull back and be smart, otherwise I'm going to look like the Grinch after Stealing Christmas from Whoville, with a massive bag hanging off my back 🙂 My problem is I keep thinking of new scenario's and trying to pack/prep for that and eventually I'll run out of money, so I'm calling it good and anything I'm missing, I can pick up along the way. Thanks a ton for all the great videos!

    If you can catch their pink Himalayan sea salt before it all disappears, GRAB IT! Much cheaper per ounce then almost anywhere else, and it's a good source of some important trace minerals in case SHTF. It's usually course, so keep a grinder on hand, dissolve it in liquid, or use a mortar and pestle.

    • @grannygoose3532
      @grannygoose3532 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Definitely a bargain. They contain less plastic particles than other brand salt. Celtic salt and Real Salt brands are better with no plastic particles but this Pink Himalayan salt from the DT is still a good bargain especially when on a budget.

    • @Rakerong
      @Rakerong 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also from what I've read, pink Himalayan sea salt shouldn't replace table salt just because it lacks iodine in it, so have to keep that in mind and have a good store of both kinds of salt if possible.

    The Dollar Trees near me all have cans of Fancyheat, which are the buffet warmer type cans that use alcohol instead of Sterno gel. Look for them in the party supply section. For a dollar these are a steal. These could be a lifesaver and an excellent trade item.
    Oh, and that Scotts Comfort Plus toilet paper is VERY good tp for the price. It's nothing like the normal Scotts 1000 sheets of sandpaper.

  • @gonefishing3644
    @gonefishing3644 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Here are my choices for Dollar Tree's best priced items for preparedness: butane lighter packs, plastic shower curtains (ground cloth), Gatorade in the reusable sports bottle, pocket size paper tablets or little note books (you may need to leave someone a written message), packs of cheap ink pens (written messages), freeze-dried coffee and tea bags, Suave shampoo, larger size bars of soap, inexpensive cordage (for clothes lines, tarp tents...), packs of clothes pins (to pin lightweight things to wire fences, bushes, etc.) and one-gallon plastic buckets (to carry water to the chicken run or a container garden). And if you are lucky, you could find cotton blend t-shirts in your size for $1 each (good to have an extra t-shirt in the bugout bag).

    • @KThom429
      @KThom429 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree with Ms. Wright. DT has matches, regular lighters and long neck lighters. Powdered water flavor packs, with and without caffeine. Re-usable closable water bottles in varying sizes. The soups are a tad smaller than grocery cans, and the vegetable cans are often less at grocery stores. But if you stock up with the intention of trading or offering to friends and neighbors in need, its not too bad. A can of chicken, noodles, a can of gravy or stock, and some crackers is an easy meal and doesn't take much time or fuel. You can use the gallon buckets and some large ziplock bags to group items together into meals, as well as hold bottles or containers of water. The t-shirts are good for wearing, medical wrapping or tp, in a pinch.

    • @sandym6760
      @sandym6760 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do a lot at DT, but I get my lighters at W/M, because I can get them in the big packs and they're a lot less per item. However, I still buy my candle lighters and matches at DT.

  • @barbarad.517

    Some Dollar Trees are considered Dollar Tree Plus and they have things that may cost more than one dollar. Most DT's are still only a dollar. So if it says Dollar Tree Plus, be careful but the items should be separated from the $1 items.

I take that as a sign to start watching helpful videos like this one. Many thanks to the great comments with great ideas and tips! I hate to say it, but a trip to the store here in the US reminds me of the videos I've seen of shopping in Russia a few years back. Scary what's going on here. You pointed out a great idea, and it's often overlooked!.... something for the kids in an emergency situation. Games, small toys, card games. If one can afford to, a portable DVD player with some favorite movies or music.
      I keep in mind that we might have to 'overnight' in our minivan (in the driveway, never inside the garage!). I always keep the tank full. It has interior lights, heat, AC, a DVD player and Sirius radio, room to sleep. Remote start and a panic alarm if needed. First aid kit, antiseptic & toilet wipes, cell phone chargers, a couple blankets, and a little stash of cash are always kept inside it.

Also the battery powered lights and LED string lights are all really good for a dollar. The solar lights are not very good but for $1 they work well as extra indoor lights for power outages. I've purchased many of their battery powered flash lights and it's hit or miss...they're either awesome for $1 or a complete piece of junk that doesnt work at all. The scotts toilet paper at dollar tree really isnt bad at all texture wise. Ive gotten it before when we were low on cash before payday. Certain shampoos and body washes there are cheap, they personally break me out, also the texture is cheap, like jelly kinda, so just watch those. The off brand pills they have there are fine also. The naproxen sodium works just as well as alieve to me personally. Dont use their car oils and stuff like that, like the brake oil and what not. It'll harm your vehicle. Most of their tools arnt horrible, but they definitely are only a few use items. Their tarps have gottem better in quality, but there still not bad for quick use. Their off brand duck tape, and masking tape isnt the best, it diesnt stick as well as the name brands imo.

    Somewhere I read Dollar Tree is changing to Dollar Tree Plus as they will be raising many prices.

      I've read something similar. There is a new owner/Ceo and he wants to raise the prices.

    One thing I would add, when you look at medication’s and vitamin supplements, look at the country of origin. Some are imported from China, and I would avoid everyone of these.

      Wallaby Goods. Pricey but great quality. I found out that the LDS Church sells them too. There are many companies that sell them online but some are made in other countries.

    I'd have to go to like 3 different dollar stores cause the one in my area won't have all that or the store is unorganized asf
