I have been waiting for soooo long to see an actual good build video of this type of foundry. I have been itching to make a foundry for so long, so I can start smelting and casting ingots for my lathe build. I like to make tools from steel and aluminum and I needed a great tutorial for my next phase. Thank you jeff. I am a long time subscriber and will continiue as always. Love your videos friend!
Showing some people "how to do it" doesnt always work IF the person has almost NO EXPERIENCE with tools, etc. Jeff, you totally nailed this, in everyway...words are not needed..
I was planning on making a foundry from a old propane tank but I think Ill be going with the barrel design now instead. Your foundry looks very nice and convenient. Great video Jeff
The barrel is super nice, my friend made his backyard found dry too... These videos from these handy men are wonderful! th-cam.com/video/e6par0ctTAg/w-d-xo.html
I could follow everything except the very first bit. Whats the arrangement btw the gas line and the very first iron fitting. Did you leave that out because thats the regulated plumbing bit? Or is it a fitting you can buy? Salvage off an old BBQ?
Jeff I have great news!! I just bought a Cast Master foundry!! I can now start making my own gold bars!!!😃😃😃😃😃😃⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'm gonna make you a gold bar with the gold I get from my neck of the woods!! I'm sooooo excited! Also I'm breaking ground at my mine the 2nd week of July!! The geology is identical to what you have!! How absolutely crazy is that!! I'm just so excited man!! My dreams are finally coming true and I own it all to Jesus, years of study and you, my motivator!! Thank you for all you do jeff! God bless and give slim a high five for me!!😃
I like where he cuts away the wasted time as he's sawing through a barrel or whatever. That is great! One of the good features, but not as good as the product
Well Jeff! That was the first one I went to. Your name did have something to do with my selection. But I'm betting without looking at any of the others that yours is the most professional, best-looking, probably most functionally efficient model out there. Excellent! Thank you.!! Going to use it to melt down gold hahaha. I believe in Providence. This morning I wasn't even looking, yesterday I was thinking got to find the history of volcanoes and this continent and there it was without asking, deceased volcano Mound in this country. Son, I'm a-goin pannin.... sometime this year. I am poor disabled without disability you know without money no you're not disabled George. Oh that's why I can't stand up and walk and sit down Thank you very much Jeff
Dang Jeff. You are such a badass. Too cool for school. Thanks for sharing. Right to the point and an excellent design. Your videos are the best. I really enjoy them all. Keep up the good work.
Nice build dude lol. The only part I didn't understand was the gas fittings that you are putting together. It was to broke a small on my cell phone. But I can figure it out I like the way the top swings out. Perhaps there should be a guard from idiots walking into it. LOL
Hello Jeff love your channel and all the thing you do . I have one question I pretty good with my hands and can figure out tricky stuff . I made a kiln 10 gall metal bucket put plastic and sand made a top let it sit I put one inch tube I did 12 inch and I did 18 inch I drill a hole at end cap put brass fittings turn on propane it look like it was working and I put coals in with a cup that you melt your metal in 45 minutes it was going and the coals didn't even catch nothing I could pick the top off with my hand . So my question is what did I do wrong .
Jeff hello again you build is awesome on the burner you show it but you put flame thrower in end cap what did you do to the bad boy drill a hole I don't know but please I don't want to mess this part up . Thanks
Jeff, at minute 2:25 why did you put a hole at the bottom of the foundry? By the way we just finished building our foundry just like the one here in your video! But we didn't put the hole in the bottom....we may carve one into the bottom but why would it be needed?
When you fuse that lead at such high temperatures you need some flux! glass, borax, sodium carbonate - something. Those yellow fumes are lead oxide and nasty stuff. Yellow snow may be bad, but yellow smoke is even worse.
Very very good Jeff ;the best DIY one I’ve seen you are a tremendous blessing from the classroom to the field ,above and below ground ; and every thing in between with all of the tools and tricks of the trade be it drones, detectors ect. You sir are simply the best. Thank you 🙏 for all you do and the passion you do it with. If my situation was different I would definitely be supporting you financially but know my heart is with ya Best wishes in all your endeavors tell ole slim I said hello 🎯I would love to make a trip out there and do a little panning with ya but unfortunately life has other plans maybe I will get to pan a little of y’all’s paydirt before it’s to late keep up the great work and MAY GODS RICHEST BLESSING BE YOURS 🎯
Pure cement is heavy and prone to cracking. I used fiber insulation at first and it was fine for aluminum, then when I wanted to retain more heat for melting copper, I used a layer of Satenite over the fiber insulation and it worked great, and the whole unit minus the propane cylinder is easy to pick up and carry.
Hey, great job! May I ask when you starting putting the cement perlite mix on there was a hole in the bottom as you were smoothing it out. Whats the hole for in the bottom?
Is part of the torch an off the shelf weed burner but with a high pressure regulator and then just the Venturi and end that mates to furnace is fabricated?
Consider building a fire barrel circle bound with metal strapping,, or aircrete bricks with water glass treatment. Set it on a raised circle fitting inside so that sides can be lifted after a spill.. Propane is clean and easy, but maybe used oil is cheaper. With air pressure. spray..
You are the most industrious guy I know! More power to you. Nice furnace Jeff, thanks for sharing. Say hi to Silver Spurs Lila, Pops, Nevada Jack, and lazy bones Slim. Take car my busy friend. See ya all real soon!

Best video EVER, 55 years metal fab typing here, pure..simple..effeciant...kudos Jeff!

thanks again my brother

What size barrel is that? I only know the 55 gallon types and this looks smaller
@@markman63 looks like a 10 gallon to me. They're about 100 bucks online
Ain't got a furnace, but you wanna smelt Au.
Then just watch ol' Jeff Williams son! .
He'll show you what to do!.
Good one mate!

The best build Ive seen on TH-cam! Awesome
I could follow everything except the very first bit. Whats the arrangement btw the gas line and the very first iron fitting. Did you leave that out because thats the regulated plumbing bit? Or is it a fitting you can buy? Salvage off an old BBQ?

How much refractory cement did that take and what was the ratio of perlite to cement?
Nice foundry dude, I like the attached lid idea with what seems to be a safety lock
Video is a little short, but one of the best furnace builds I've seen.
I like where he cuts away the wasted time as he's sawing through a barrel or whatever. That is great! One of the good features, but not as good as the product
After all these years and I just now saw this video…. clean beads, professional work. Strong hands that can still finesse out some Rockin Metal riffs!
thanks
Jeff Williams you my hero. It is such a relief to watch someone build one of these that is not an idiot.
thanks

Awesome build Jeff!
My man, you have to break this down step by step, because this is awesome
thanks
I’m with you.
I want to build a furnace but this wont tell me anything except this guy is really good

Interesting burner build. Have everything but perlite and cement here. Time to melt some cans.
Nice job Jeff, You are receiving my special "Fabricator Extraordinaire" badge!
thanks
@@Askjeffwilliams By the way, I love some of your music choices included in your videos, the trooper was a nice touch!
thanks
The lid is impressive how you made it tight fit yet easy to swing open. Great shtuff ! Everyones burner contraptions leave me to wonder though...
Thanks 👍

Awesome idea, going to try myself, thanks
Thanks Jeff

Glad you liked it!
Will it get hot enough to make wootz steel?
Jeff makes it look easy. I hope to find the plans for this unit. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent video. Outstanding build.
thanks
Now that's a super cool design..😎👍
Wow, that's very hot video !! Where did you find that 16 gallon drum ? I need a few.
thanks Allan and it was made from a 30 gallon Drum ..New so no worries of an explosion.
I could use that size for my new trommel design..
exactly and make sure its a chain drive.
Very clever stuff.
jeff! your the man thats a nice build!
thanks ..we can cook up some good beans in that thing

Excellent video!!!
Looks good works good
Nice build
That is Wicked kool Jeff and got to be one of the best furnace's I have ever seen built by hand.

Thanks LJMD
Wow looks better then some of the purchased ones I’ve seen
Pretty cool Jeff!👌
I recognize some of the burner workings from my homebuilt propane forge.
I didn't see it. Do you soot your muffin pans before pouring?
a little carbon always helps with the release.
How many tines can you fire it up Before it crumbles? How much did the torch parts cost alone and what are all the parts? Nice furnace too!
Hey, great job! May I ask when you starting putting the cement perlite mix on there was a hole in the bottom as you were smoothing it out. Whats the hole for in the bottom?
Holes are added to the bottoms in case the crucible fails and instead of having metal pool at the bottom of the foundry it'll flow through the hole.
cool stuff, great idea, especially i like the lid that swings away to the side

Howdy Dean we use to sell the plans but have not for a while ...will have to dig them out for ya
