Quick Correction regarding today's video: As a commenter pointed out, my example of converting a guitar lead to a MIDI track using Flex Pitch results in a piano track that is not the same key as the guitar! It appears this is a bug related to Flex Pitching Apple Loops. At least I perceive it as a bug on my Mac using Logic Pro 10.6.3.The Project key is in C Major, which the Windmill Lead Guitar follows when playing back. The Flex Pitch data, however, is in the key of G. Which is the original key of that Apple Loop. It appears Flex Pitch data defaults to an Apple Loop's original key, not the key of the Project. Bouncing the Windmill Lead Guitar Apple Loop in place *first* and then analyzing the bounced version with Flex Pitch results in Flex Pitch data in the correct key. I contemplated removing today's video and reuploading it. But felt this bit of info might be helpful to others, and frankly, much more honest! Thanks so much :)
Hi Chris. I was looking for some basic info on how LPX handles the signal path of Midi in and out. I converted from Ableton to Logic about 4 years ago have never felt at one with the way Logic deals with Midi compared to Live. Live has a tool that converts analog mono and poly to midi data but still required much finessing. I use Midi Guitar 2 which does a reasonable job converting mono or poly to midi it still needs some tweaking. Although I didn't find what I was looking in my quick search I blame it on this tutorial. You've provided more than enough information on the subject matter that'll keep my need for knowledge focused for many hours. I'm aware of Flex but have never dug into it as I wasn't aware of what it could do. This tutorial has changed my view of that. Thanks again. I originally found you when looking to replace my UAD Apollo Twin which lead me to buy the Apogee Duet 3. My only regret is that I should've bought the Symphony Desktop but you know what they say about hindsight.
OH MY GAWD this is a total revelation! So fun to record a voice melody, like a scat, and listen how it interprets the notes--then select cool jazzy instruments like vibes and clavorator and put them all together. What FUN! Thanks Man!!
Great video and it all seems to work. The only thing that doesn't is the Melodyne audio/midi conversion. You have to have the most advanced version of Melodyne, the Studio version, to do that conversion and keep it in time. I have the next highest version, Editor, and it won't keep the tempo of the original. Right now, Melodyne Studio cost $899. Probably not something most people can afford.
Thank you so much. Coming from studio one to logic. Really loving it but need to study. Great video and didn’t realize all that could be done. I’m subscribed.

That's why I switched to Studio One 5 a while ago and never looked back. I've worked with Logic for 10 years. But these kind of things and lots more are a lot faster in Studio One, just convert to midi and your done. I've noticed that Studio One deals a lot better with latency and CPU usage, but that's another subject. Not to mention the chord track, where you can just drag and drop chords into any instrument track, that's just genius.

How to convert a MIDI part in Automation? For example, I have a plug-in with an LFO, and I would like the LFO Rate to change depending on the pitch of the note in the part. Thank you.
Very interesting, but it doesn't seem to capture the output of, for instance, Komplete Kontrol's arpeggiator. I guess that's part of the instrument as distinct from the MIDI effects. I'm still hopin gto find a way to do a similar thing with KK's output. Thanks again for, as always, an excellent video

Hi Chris, thanks for the great tutorials! I'm a real fan of your work. I hope you can help me. At some point I saw a video from you about displaying arpeggio notes in the piano roll when using arpeggiated sounds from e.g. Alchemy or other synths. I know it had something to do with the scripter in Logic. I can't find the video. I forgot how to do it! Many thanks and greetings from Berlin René
I was wondering if there is a way to translate the ARP patterns from the KORG Extreme VST to a mid file so they can be played by another instrument. I used to do this with the hardware version, because it sends the pattern to its midi out. A bit disappointed this doesn't seem to be possible with this VST version, unless I'm mistaken. In that case, I would appreciate any comment. Thank you!
Excellent video! The polyphonic piano example at the end was percussive / rhytmic by nature, so no overlaps, and 'lots of' separation between the chords. Does Melodyne also work with more flowing piano parts?
I have just organ music on tape and on u-tube and there some talking not much but I am trying to get the cords or all the notes that are being played. And they play to fast . So is there anyway I can slow it down and that it stays in the same key? So I am trying to convert analog into midi or do i even have to convert it to midi? I am looking for a banjo, a fiddle, a cello and a string section. In one case, I found a banjo, but one note works, and the rest do not. I like the voicing (it's an audio file in garage band). How can I convert to mid, pick the melody I want, but keep the same sound I found as it's an audio patch not a midi instrument?
Great video! How do you handle tempo differences from real human performances which may be irregular, accelerating and decelerating a bit in different parts. Is there a way to “prescribe” tempo markers with keyboard taps as you listen to the audio Región for instance ?
Bro, your channel is awesome. But the howling error in the first section of this video is that the piano version of the leas guitar is clearly playing different pitches. How did you miss that??
This is great; you are so advanced though that I did not catch how to transform the MIDI data to a score, which is my goal.
