  • In commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II's 32-year-long position as patron of the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, a luncheon was held at Cambridge Stud where she once requested a special visit to in 1990 with Sir Patrick Hogan.
An idea bought to life by NZTBA's former Administration Manager Sally Cassels-Brown, Queen Elizabeth II's love of racing and thoroughbreds in general made her the perfect candidate to patron our industry. When invited to visit champion sire Sir Tristram by Sir Patrick Hogan, she made sure to fulfill that promise. Made Commander of the Order of the British Empire, for services to Thoroughbred racing, and Sir Patrick Hogan was appointed a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to thoroughbred breeding and training, in the 2000 New Year Honours. An honour he owes to wife Lady Justine Hogan.
