This is cool... But im also a little bit disappointed. This mod seems to have aired on the side if exploration, meanwhile i also had the idea of the Beluga/Atlas as a mobile base vehicle. The details here are great, but a bit of the layout isn't. Or at least in my opinion. One example of a major change I'd make, would be to convert each quad of powercells into docking bays. (Power cells should be close to the engine, and 4 Prawn/Moths would be great.) An additional change, would be scale. 1/3 bigger is nice, but again, mobile base. Honestly, with those two big rooms that had the vehicle bays, plus the underside storage, and a general upsizing, there would absolutely enought space to dock a Cyclops. Overkill? Yes, but that would allow you to go into caves, as thr larger size of the Beluga/Atlas would make that impossible. You might be able to get a better idea of the rearrangements im talking about by looking at the design in ArtStation. I forget the artists name, but you should recognize it.
Makes sense for it to be called the ATLAS. It literally carries your viable home space for you 100%; it can have everything that fulfills your basic need, while the Cyclops can only bring a partial amount.

I have always been fascinated by the subnautica concept art, so it's cool to see a functioning version of one of the alternate ships functional in the game. The Beluga always stood out thanks to its multiple windowed decks and the dream of truly turning a ship into a mobile base. I always imagined the Manta as a behemoth ship you would leave on the surface, and the Draconis as a torpedo you could fly across the map with; though looking at the concept art now the manta is clearly smaller than the rest and the Draconis is massive. I know Subnautica has a defined identity now, but in those early days when the world was destructable, it felt like anything could be added.
It's so cool to have an actually detailed sub mod. Most of the mods that add new submarines are cool on the outside but just low poly models controlled by blank boxes on the inside.
I think the reason that the atlas uses alien feces for its crafting recipe is to make the grand reef actually important other than getting the fish tank
@@keelled The creator of the mod will probably add a solar charger module and a thermal reactor module! Then you won't need a base if you can recharge in sunlight or close to a heat area!
@@Sweden_Gaming8416 but you still can't dock both seamoth and prawnsuit at the same time. I would consider it a hundred percent base if I can do it in it.
I’m expecting we’ll see something like this in the next game, considering it’s multiplayer. I’m hoping, for whatever large vehicle we end up getting, they work in some way for it to only be optimal with 2 or more players, where you can’t just do everything from one station. I would say 4 major stations, with the first 3 spread across the main deck and the fourth, mostly optional station in the engine room. A pilot station for piloting the sub and controlling the lights, as well as having a general overview of the other stations’ info but not specifics or control over them. A navigation station on the left that controls the sonar, cameras, and holographic map. A screen for the cameras would be visible to both the pilot and navigator but only controlled from the nav station. A station to the right for firing flares, lures, grav traps, etc. Again, important info would be visible to the pilot but only controlled from this specific station. A fourth station in the engine room where you go to overclock the vehicle speed at the cost of power and noise, like the Cyclops, and make repairs and change batteries on the fly. It’s immersive, it keeps all players engaged, encourages teamwork in low-stress environments, necessitates teamwork in high-stress environments and chases, and naturally gives players their own spots on the ship that they’d want to customize. The alternative is everyone just sitting around while the driver does everything.🤷🏽♂️ At the end of the day, larger vehicles like the Cyclops and Seatruck (with a few modules) have always been overkill for one player anyway so I see no problem with restricting their full potential to multiplayer. Or if someone really wants to use it solo, making them really have their hands full in doing so.
