Also, not sure if you picked up the sly symbolism: the “Gods” they’re trying to please are meant to represent US, the audience who watches horror movies. Historically, horror audiences enjoy watching young pretty people getting killed, seeing nudity, and then maybe letting one “final girl” survive to the end. We’ve paid for dozens and dozens of movies that show infinite variations of that same pattern over and over - almost like a ritual!
There's also the "remember when we could just toss a virgin into a volcano?" line, which to me sounds like commentary about the way human societies have been seeking these sort of spectacular sacrifices since the dawn of time. The spectacle used to be real sacrifices, just kill a girl, done - now we demand complex, scripted storylines along with the deaths lol
So at 1:20 when Curt takes the books away and Jules goes “I learned it from you” they were referencing a drug/smoking commercial from the 80s or 90s in which a kid says that to their parent after they’re caught. My parents and I use it against each other all the time in jest. 😂 Absolutely cracked me up to see it in the movie.
Yes! It seems that younger Reactors are confused by this exchange because those "public service" ads are no longer running. They were aimed at scaring parents into giving up weed, otherwise they would lose the moral high ground if they tried to keep their kids drug-free. "Who taught you how to do this stuff? who?" [tense pause] "You, all right? I learned it from watching YOU!!!" Curt and Jules were goofing around, acting out those lines as if they applied to (gasp!) books. (When in fact they're both top students.) Here's a link: th-cam.com/video/KUXb7do9C-w/w-d-xo.html
I absolutely love the satire in this movie remarking horror genre. Its genius, and marks as one of my favorite horror movies! Of course, my favorite monsters are Kevin, and Fornicus (guy with circular saws in his face who refferences Pinhead from Hellraiser)... so manny refferences there. As much as it is a satire, its homage to so many great horrors
I saw this in theaters not knowing what to expect. Really liked how it took the whole "adults in college go to a cabin and get slaughtered" cliche and subvert everyone's expectation. We've already seen such standard examples in The Evil Dead or Cabin Fever, for example. I know this isn't for everyone, although I applaud the writers for trying something different. And kudos for casting three-time Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver as a surprise antagonist.
Please watch this again sober. It's not a confusing premise at all and they explain everything along the way. Things are probably just not computing because you're in an altered state. It's so full of horror references & Easter eggs - a horror fan's dream come true!
A detail I noticed but haven't seen mentioned about this movie is that the little quake that happens after they pull the lever for "the Fool"'s death is probably because they activated their ritual blood thing without him actually dying since he comes back near the end. Seems like the old gods didn't like them doing part of the ritual prematurely.
Listen to the stoner man. Its the role reversal I never thought I'd see. Usually in horror and comedy horror films, they almost always make the stoners the sterotypical "dummies." But in this, Marty despite being the stoner is actually the SMART one of the bunch. He knew something was wrong the whole time. He tried to tell his friends not to do the typical horror film stuff but they never listened to him. Marty was the only one to figure it out. Glad they fixed that one. Stoners are actually usually smart and cunning folks in real life, if given the chance. I'm glad to be a stoner man. Speaking of which, I'm smoking my bowl right now lol.
Well, to be fair, none of them were dumb. They were all being dosed with drugs and subliminally manipulated into playing their roles. Marty was less impacted by it because he was so high all the time.
The ONLY negative I have about this film is that there cannot be a sequel. This had so much potential for its own short franchise. Or perhaps more appropriately, for its own trilogy, and at the end of the trilogy they could have let the Ancients rise. I really wanted to explore more of those abominations up-close, and in-depth. Or from the perspective of a different culture, i.e., Stockholm.
I'm an Buffy the Vampire Slayer intellect I know every aspect of Buffy you can imagine. Joss used every supernatural monster of the week on Buffy in this movie. There is literally a version of the monsters in this movie spread all throughout Buffyverse even spin-off Angelverse. Even the way Amy acker scientist character death from tentacles from the ceiling is in Angelverse to the clown, everything. Even the fact of the underground secret organization is literally a whole season arch in Buffy. Here's another otherworld existence from the Buffyverse. There's a movie called First Daughter movie with Katie Holmes and the lead actor plays his secret self character that was portrayed in Buffy same actor in that Buffy season same actor in that movie with Katie Holmes. That's just crossover multiverse geek fantastic stuff man. Even Amy acker is a lead in Angelverse spin-off. It's all connected.
I have never been drunk in my life. I've just had sips of this and that I've only had one full glass of wine about 7 years ago and I got to say yeah this movie doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense the first time you watch it but the rewatchability is top tier cuz there are just so many new things to notice Also, I've noticed there are quite a few things in this movie that relate back to other movies, just the setting in the woods. I have recently watched Evil Dead for the first time and that cabin is definitely supposed to reference the evil dead cabin. Especially with that seller. There are just so many things I'm noticing from other types of movies I'm like. Yep, this is from that. This is from that. Okay. They got the monsters from this. This this this this this
The director told "Shaggy" to keep his clothes on in the lake scene because he is buffed. He workout a lot and his big muscles don't match the goofiness of the character.
I've been binging your horror movie reactions lately and I've liked them a lot! Have you seen The Lighthouse? If you haven't seen it, I'd love to watch a reaction video of that one day!
The monsters were released into the place that has the setup to put them all in the cabin and whatnot. The kids were able to release some of those monsters to attack the people who put them in that cabin
You’ll have to watch “Evil Dead” (1981) now to see how it ties into this movie… Actually, I thought this was a remake until I found out otherwise… New sub here btw, love your reactions!
My big complaint with this movie is that the Blu-Ray has a bunch of special features that you need to play on a computer to access but for some reason my computer can't play it.
This is great. I actually wish you had seen the iconic “cabin in the woods,” especially the Evil Dead before watching this. The satire would have been immediate 😂
I love this movie, it’s just fun and I enjoy seeing all the different monsters. I wish we could get another one and I especially want to see what the ancient gods would look like.
I got to say when you said I'm not sure what kind of horror movie this is. Is it this? Is it that the correct answer is yes, it's all of those things. This is basically a movie that explains every other horror movie. Like every other horror movie could potentially be this going on behind the scenes
"Cleanse them. Cleanse the world of their ignorance and sin. Bathe them in the crimson of... Am I on speakerphone?" As much as I love this movie, I love Tucker And Dale Vs Evil (2010) better. It also lampoons horror movies, while having an important message of not judging a book by its cover and communication is key to avoid conflict. I find it hard to find a moral message in this movie. Fun Fact: The movie's opening was a deliberate attempt by filmmakers Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon to confuse the audience and make them think they walked in to see the wrong movie. High Technology Fact: The thermal coffee mug/bong was a fully functional mug and bong as portrayed in the film, the prototype of which cost $5000 to make. Spartan Workout Fact: During the lake scene, the only student not to jump into the lake is Marty, who remains fully clothed on the dock. This was partially due to Fran Kranz noticeably being in as good, if not better, shape than the other male students. In the commentary for the film, the writers joke that he was "ripped like muscular Jesus" and assert that if Marty were shown being that fit it would ruin the character. This is partly also why Marty wears baggier clothes than the other students.
Before watching I was thinking, this movie was *made* for the Peofessor.. It's horror movie a reference storm. I'm not a horror guy and even I appreciated it, almost like a Wikipedia of horror tropes + a fun deconstruction. Of all movies to be drunk for! But there's no way you couldn't have enjoyed it.. again, it's like it was made for you (or any horror fan).
Why would a professor, who is sleeping with a student, leave a paper trail by breaking up over email? How was it that football guy transferred to this school right before this weekend? They got chemicals into her shampoo and dye. Think about how much of each of these people's blood they had ready to pour out to complete the rituals. How long ago do you think they were selected for this weekend?
I kind of get what you mean, but it's a pretty clear case of setup and payoff. In that moment, they weren't trying to shock the audience, they were going for dramatic irony -- the tension comes from the audience knowing more than the characters.
Yeah, I think it's a bit of a hitchcock move: show the bomb to the audience but keep it secret from the protagonist(s). It creates built in tension to every scene that follows until the tension is resolved. And an invisible laser shield/wall 75% of the way through the movie probably would have felt like it came out of nowhere.. maybe a little cheap, like a cop out/way out for the writers who may have written themselves into a corner.
hahahaha omg. this is one of my favorite movies to watch with friends. i always tell them to guess which order they’re going to die. when i watched it for the first time in middle school it blew my mind LOL it’s just fun.
I'm honestly surprised that you didn't make a reference to the MCU cuz of the whole the ancient ones thing cuz there's a the ancient one in Dr. Strange and you are covering the MCU right?
I'm not sure why you were so confused throughout, drunk or not lol. You weren't really supposed to know what they guys in the bunker were talking about or betting on until about half way through
Okay that b******* about the I learned it from watching you. That was an anti-drug commercial back in the day that they were picking on and by the way, this movie was filmed a couple of years before it actually came out so it came out after Thor but was filmed quite a bit before it
Normally i like your reactions but this one was a let down. Please don't react drunk again as it was just you constantly saying you were confused over and over again.
either the best movie to watch drunk or the WORST

Exactly!! And, like the "Ancient Gods", we can destroy that "Universe" if not appeased. If we hate a franchise, we can destroy it out of existence.
@@YolandaAnneBrown95726and they have every type of basic horror creature to make for entertainment

“Bonkers” is the perfect word to describe this wild movie! Glad you enjoyed it (and I hope you enjoyed watching it sober during editing). 😂
The japanese kids making a ritual and turning a ghost into a frog is what truly sold me on this movie lol
I absolutely love the satire in this movie remarking horror genre. Its genius, and marks as one of my favorite horror movies!

If I took a drink every time you said you were so confused throughout the movie I’d have alcohol poisoning before the end.

“I learned it from watching you!” Is an old PSA commercial about drugs, very popular
I've seen this movie like a million times and somehow never remember anything that happens in it. It's like I get to watch it brand new every time
The ONLY negative I have about this film is that there cannot be a sequel. This had so much potential for its own short franchise. Theoretically, they could just have it is set in another universe. They could even mention knowing that another universe failed and was destroyed.
I'm an Buffy the Vampire Slayer intellect I know every aspect of Buffy you can imagine. Joss used every supernatural monster of the week on Buffy in this movie. We watch this movie all the time. It’s one of my favorites lol
I watched this movies in theaters and was so conflicted on how I felt about it. Now it's up there as one of my favorites.
This is unironically one of my fave movies
I freaking love this movie. It's one of my guilty pleasures.
This film explains every horror film ever made...in a nutshell.
I have never been drunk in my life. I've just had sips of this and that I've only had one full glass of wine about 7 years ago and I got to say yeah this movie doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense the first time you watch it but the rewatchability is top tier cuz there are just so many new things to notice

To this day, I do not understand why there's a unicorn 😂 Can't even theorize!
The unicorn is a nod and a wink to Buffy season 5 episode 2.
Every mirror is a 1-way mirror. That is a 2-way mirror.
Great reaction, BTW.
The director told "Shaggy" to keep his clothes on in the lake scene because he is buffed. He workout a lot and his big muscles don't match the goofiness of the character.
Drunk or not, coming into this movie blind is the best
That’s some Hunger Games force field stuff
Bonkers AND Brilliant. Glad you understood and loved it 🙂
At this point it’s really weird not seeing Chris Hemsworth be an overly hammy Norse god
this might be the best cabin in the woods reaction from the utter bamboozle-ment alone LMFAO
p.s. TEQUILA IS MAH LADY
I've been binging your horror movie reactions lately and I've liked them a lot! Have you seen The Lighthouse? If you haven't seen it, I'd love to watch a reaction video of that one day!
Oh and Paranormal Activity movies are amazing as well so I'd recommend watching them as well if you haven't seen them yet!!

Your sir, are quite underated and I appreciate your reviews ❤ I've watched since back to the future ✨☕
Heavy Metal (1981) is the best movie to watch while drinking. 👍
I wonder if he's confused at all...
Lol
This is a perfect movie. Such a fantastic work
My big complaint with this movie is that the Blu-Ray has a bunch of special features that you need to play on a computer to access but for some reason my computer can't play it.
Might be my favorite reaction to this movie.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Thank you so so much for watching this movie. I love your videos. I am so excited to watch!

Yay! One of my fave reactors with one of my fave movies. I’m excited to start watching.
i can kind of get why it was so popular when it came out. i didn't watch horror back then
it's fine. i like the motorcycle barrier kill

I love it when reactor predict the stone will be the first death 2:07, this move is so subversive
I think those film wheels are like the movie Sinister
your reaction at 27:25 made me laugh out loud cause that’s the exact same face I made when she popped up.
Loved it as always man, also you are looking TRIM - good job on the weight loss
I love this movie, and that was a fun reaction!
My main criticism of this movie is revealing the barrier early on. It would've been such a great shock to see him go splat out of nowhere

I love the Truman show as well 😊 if you haven't seen Liar Liar or Cable Guy yet i recommend them 👍 both great Jim Carrey movies ❤❤❤ XxXxX
This movie explains why the same stupid shit happens in every horror movie 😅
Its a masterpiece
Your confusion throughout this whole movie was kinda infuriating. Like it really wasn't that hard to follow along jeez
movie had gotten shelved but was released after Chris Hemsworth's big break with Thor

The ending never bothered me, if humanity can defeat the villains individually then together we can take them
as I understand it, this movie is just a caricature or a satire of horror films?
Fucking lightweight
Anyone else getting an abnormal amount of 2 unsuitable ads lately?
lmao bro your lit
I was going to Like the video, but it's currently at 666, so I have to leave that alone.
(So, commenting instead. 🙂 )
when r u gonna watch the Pirates of the Caribbean and The Matrix???
Normally i like your reactions but this one was a let down. Please don't react drunk again as it was just you constantly saying you were confused over and over again.
also mermen are turbo lame
i can kind of get why it was so popular when it came out. i didn't watch horror back then
