I cannot stand Charles and Camilla for hurting young Diana! Those two slouches are at least 13 or 14 years older than that innocent girl! If Charles was a smart man and not a jealous, selfish man, he and Diana could have been just like Harry and Meghan! She was beautiful, sincere, a worker for good, and she cared about people! Too bad Charles isn’t as intelligent as his son, Harry! Harry and his wife are hard workers, and doing good work! Charles could have shared some of Diana’s stardust, because she was the STAR in that marriage, but he was too selfish! He’s always been a shortsighted ignorant pompous fool!🤬

Between the Anglo Saxon ones and the Normans there were Danes. Knut / Cnut (interesting anagram) king of England 1016 to 1035 was the son of Sveyn Forkbeard of Denmark and Gunhilda (?) or her Polish name was Świętosława daughter of Mieszko I, Duke of Mazovia and sister of Bolesław I, the first crowned king of Poland (Gniezno 1000***). Cnut brought over Polish cavalry fighters, from his mother, to aid in the conquest of England, among the Danes raised by his father's side. So Anglo Saxons weren't just conquered by French Normans (1066).
      Footnote :
***According to the Chronicon of the Saxon Bishop Thietmar of Merseburg Bolesław I of Poland wasn't crowned in 1000. He was crowned in 1025. The 1000 event was just a cathedral dedication or christening with a visit from the Holy Roman Emperor. But Bolesław certainly called himself king from 1000 onwards.

    • @AndriyValdensius-wi8gw
      @AndriyValdensius-wi8gw หลายเดือนก่อน +3

PS The Normans didn't come to England before 1066. From about 1030 onwards they were busy conquering Sicily, although it wasn't an official Duke of Normandy thing. It was more a freelance mercenary Wagner Group style effort led by a knight called Tancrède and his sons, plus their private army. They created their own Norman kingdom of Sicily. So Sicily became a bit of a Phoenician Greek Roman Moorish Arab Norman Byzantine Neapolitan Spanish and finally Italian melting pot. And I haven't even mentioned the Mafia. 😅

The mystery was long gone, and QE2 put a fig leaf over it. My feelings have been for a very long time that William would not be king. He is lacking in so many ways. He has no personality at all. I think he has hidden who is so deeply he has forgotten himself, and what I see is a shell of a human with no warmth and nothing to recommend him. I look at George, and I see the samething very scared in public and blank. I hate to label a child, but for now, that's how he looks. I think a lot can happen to change that, but will he be allowed to develop into a well-rounded human or will they stifle his personality. Snuff out the real person and leave an empty shell. Harry escaped that because they largely ignored him and he was able to develop into a fully functioning human with all the frailty that brings but he was able to put it behind him and come out a strong moral individual with a mind of his own and a winning personality. That's why people love him because he is real flaws and all. What I see with the rest of them is that they are actors in a long-running soap opera that has ran too long the audience as moved on because the lead actors that made the play work has left the show. The late Queen, Prince Philip and Harry and the new blood they brought in to pep it up that went down a storm they did not extend her contract and now they are waiting for curtain call, a permanent one.

Instead of getting on with the job his infantile churlish insistance on going all out to destroy his brother and sister in law out of jealousy and envy has robbed William of the little morsel of commonsense he had been pretending to have. William sadly lacks self awareness, is a poor judge of character - you need only see the fellows he surrounds himself with none fit for purpose, he lacks self control and discipline and is incapable of doing a solid day's work. William has issues and does not have the good sense to seek help. Take heart professor like the poor the monarchy is always with us. Charles being the last King isn’t necessarily a bad thing, The UK can reinvent the role of the leader of their country, without the leader being fully supported financially by its people. It’s a job, and should be treated as such, and the salary should represent the job, but the people must trust the leader. Everyone has something to say about the royals because they invest in them, if they didn’t invest as much there would be less chaos, and people could just live. The monarchy is the only western country I’m aware of that is this disgustingly rich for no reason except the people, or other peoples property. Most leaders are paid a salary, their entire family is not cared for, just the leader and his immediate family, and usually that only covers security, and their living expenses, the leaders supplies money for their own vacations, private schools, colleges, (don’t get me wrong when colleges find out a leaders child wants to come, they make room, but the leader still pays, not the citizens, their family cars for their children , any other miscellaneous thing they need. Your children are not the responsibility of every citizen. I just think it could be the slim down monarchy, without the “King” per se unless that is the bloodline you want your leaders to come through, it would be up to the people. An Election or A Rise to Power.

That’s really interesting Prof Tim I remember 20 years ago my friends and I were working in the tourist industry and the subject of the monarchy came up all of us said we couldn’t see William on the throne . Personally I believe the monarchy died with the Queen because she kept the mystique and her opinions to herself. I believe Edward and Mrs Simpson started the decline followed by Margaret and her risqué behaviour, Charles and Diana then continued the destruction making their personal issues available for public scrutiny . Andrew oiling it and Harry and Meghan making themselves vulnerable by letting the public know their upset . It’s been a drip drip drip of destruction. It’s lost its mystery and shine , just as the Queen mother said “ don’t let the daylight in on magic “ Funnily enough however I do think Harry has the fun loving personality that his mother had that gives him the edge over William who seems much more serious

Social media & the sordid relationships the RF choses to cultivate with tabloids to record its uselessness will bring an end to the monarchy. Further, UK subjects having to finance this lacklustre institution only adds insult to injury. Pity really!
Innovative leadership could reform the monarchy and restore its status & esteem in the UK, the CW & globally. But this is unlikely to come from KC3 & even less likely from the current lazy & irate PoW.
The best option for continuing the monarchy right now would be H&M. But he is not firstborn, and she is unacceptable to UK subjects because of the relentless vitriolic character assassination in UK tabloids for the last 8 years.
That being the case, it is probably best to shut down, and replace it with an elected (or selected) fixed-term president. Of course members of the RF could take part in any such election/selection process.

You don't know much about the Royal purse then.
The Sovereign grant is generated by the Crown Estate who give the profits to the Treasury, the Royals receive only 15%. Private income is generated via the Duchy of Cornwall and Lancaster both private estates. Then there's the money generated by tourism and charity endorsement. The Royal Family are pretty much self sufficient

When Kings had to fight and risk all, it served a purpose. Only a truly gifted statesman with a stable psyche could presently give the illusion of a monarchy's need. Charles is not that man. His dependence on approval and insecurities have damaged the Windsors since he married Diana. I don't believe in monarchy as a form of modern government. That said, Elizabeth was made for that very od job.

Then he said a possible abdication or removal. Which will then proceed a man who never expected to be King.
What if William is removed for some reason. Or maybe he decides he doesn’t want to be King.
I jist don’t know what man would take his place because next in line are William’s children.

For centuries the monarchy has been deeply entrenched in the constitution of England/Britain. There have been been such crises before, 1714, 1688, 1649, 1553. The monarchy survived. The only way to overcome the constitutional/legal depth of the monarchy is through revolution (viz a viz, Russian, France). I do not see that happening in Britain.

One of the Prof's more thoughtful and thought-provoking monologues which sadly stumbled at the very end over Brexit; having argued the benefits of a monarch defining a country rather than a flag, to then to say leaving the EU, a supranational state very much defined by a flag, is about redefining ourselves is a rather odd and unexexplained statement. Though many EU supporters do tend to take themselves very seriously, so that lends credence to his theory about the difference between flag-defined and people-defined states.

Only about half the 25 - 49 age group supports the monarchy and the 24 years old and younger only a minority support the monarchy. I think this country can do better than have a head of state decided by bloodline. It’d be better for people to have a choice in choosing a president. The candidates for president of Britain would have to be impartial as possible when it comes to politics, and has done some good for British society, like being a philanthropist, and is virtuous.

This was the comment I left in the thread after watching the interview.
The monarchy started to crumble when Queen Elizabeth started to decline. The firm has become a 🎪 after her passing. It’s embarrassing.
He’s not a half Royal, Harry’s title is his birth right. That argument is senseless. These are the same people that call people with no kingdom’s Kings and Queens and their children prince’s. Seriously y’all need to let it go.
Fascinating to see how her mind struggles to keep her two feet from going in different directions in regard to her opinion. On the other hand her rant on how the public perceive monarchy and how bad it has become in its treatment of it , smacks of ignorance of her country’s royal history. None of this is new. The monarchy has gone through way worse in regards of their PR and more than once they feared the fall of it. So I don’t know what she’s going on about. This is different, way different. This is the age of social media and progressive thoughts that cannot be squashed by cosplay or fantasies of royal splendor. They had a chance to move on with the times and make it work, they didn’t and I do not see how they come back from that. Even as traditional as the Queen was, she knew when to bend even if a bit to the wind of change. As Confucius said, “ The grass must bend when the wind blows across it “.

The monarchy is facing challenges. If what I'm hearing is true, William will have to deal with a lot, especially with a very sick father, a very sick wife, and three young children. How will he handle these upcoming challenges? It's better to prevent problems than to deal with them later. The royal family might either fade away or turn the responsibilities over to Harry. When reality sets in, the family will come to their senses. Truth is bitter, but it must be spoken. From a distance, one can anticipate the unforeseen challenges that lie ahead.
