    This is a super awesome and helpful video! I’m currently writing a Dark Fantasy series of my own and I really need to amp up my series Bible. This series was originally only gonna be three books long, but the more I delve into the world, the more books pop up. Super helpful! Thank you!

    I have had the idea for a Dark Fantasy whizzing around my head for a while now. I've also had my three most important (not saying the rest of them aren't, but the story focuses more on these three) characters names, origins and motivations in there too, and now I can finally put them into a Series Bible. My story's rather dark, and after telling my best friend a brief synopsis of it, I'm more inspired than ever to write it. Thank you for making this as it's already making my life far easier.

    I have a sci-fi novel that I've been working on forever. I paused work on it to do something else for a bit, but I definitely need to make a series bible for it when I go back. Figuring out and remembering all the details about characters, settings and world will be helpful even if I don't do much plotting in the book. I think plotsing will be easier if I know the world better.

    I have my graduate certificate in Screenwriting. Your process is very similar to the Bible for TV Series. I write dramatic fiction. I'm currently working on a novel Alter, which is about a couple struggling to reconnect after losing a child at birth and respond to grief in very different ways. I may turn it into a series, and if I do, I will definitely create a Bible. I'm brain dumping ideas for other series ideas in brief intervals, focusing the bulk of my energy on Alter until it's done.

    I had started my Series Bible in Scrivener on a flash drive. Easy to access from my computer or laptop with no internet necessary. Don't remember who had mentioned the importance of having one for continuity of the setting as well as characters. Thank you for the video it is always good to make sure nothing was forgotten or not thought of. Always learn something new from you!

      I am writing the 1st in a series of Cozy Mystery with recipes. I have had the MC and her 2 friends in my head for most of my grown kid's lives. I am also writing a companion short story series so each short story will pair with a book. Short stories are the characters solving smaller crimes starting in high school. The books are them in their 20's starting to solve murders and other crimes by sleuthing. Thanks to AuthorTube the beginner goofs have been redone and more polished. Creating the 1st draft from the rough draft currently.

    I use Scrivener for my writing and I've gotten to where I put everything taking place in the same setting in one project and make text links in my outlines and summaries to take me to the main informational pages I might need to refer to. A wiki, basically, but integrated into my preparatory writing. I could even integrate links into my actual draft manuscripts if I hide the underlining and color changes.

    Great video! I call mine a compendium! It's very similarly to yours, but you have a section or two I think I should add to mine! Thanks for making a video on this topic. 😃👍 I mainly write fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, medieval-fantasy, and many viable book ideas for several other sub-genres; even a couple contemporary ideas that may not stay in that genre. Hahaha. I wanted to mention, your Shadow Crown geography map is nicely detailed! I like to make multiple copies of my detailed maps then use different colored pens to mark out character travels and locations of their key events. Another chart I like to use is timelines, of plot over-view and main character movement, with seasons! It helps me keep consistent the passage of time and changing of weather. Because nature - weather - affects plot and characters a lot; for example: clothing, health, emotional state-of-being, can parallel as metaphor or represent symbolism in the story, etc. Anyway, enough typing before this comment gets too prolixus. Lol 🤐Oops😁 It's the weekend! Have a great one everybody. 👋✌

    I use excel spreadsheets to outline my book series. Each tab or workbook contains the character relationships, motives, book outlines, story outlines detailing subplots . My character profiles are like 11 pages long very detail including which book, chapters and how their character will evolve from through out the series. I like the binder method you presented. I am working on how my character will look like so I will definitely use the emoji app you referenced. I truly look forward in meeting you in the near future Kristen!

    I'm trying to create a cosmology for my setting. I sort of have an idea but it's difficult to articulate. The way I imagine it is like a disc with rings, each ring a different level of existence with our universe in the center (there's an important reason for that in the story). I've collected a lot of cosmology imagery though and i'm wondering if a bubble system would make more sense than a disc.

    • @lanalytch
      @lanalytch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooh nifty idea! I think you could make either work, though I do like the idea of a bubble - both aesthetically and in just imagining how such craziness would work. I love weird physics and for some reason the 3d version appeals to my imagination more than the 2d one. Maybe it's just because so many space battles don't pay much attention to up and down. Whatever you go with, all the luck to you, sounds great 😁

    • @Gaia_Gaistar
      @Gaia_Gaistar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lanalytch Scientists imagine our universe to be flat like a disc so that has an appeal to me but i've seen bubble types in fiction like in The Elder Scrolls and Dragon Ball and it does have a nice aesthetic with different planes of existence existing in different layers like a Russian nesting doll.

    • @lanalytch
      @lanalytch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Gaia_Gaistar Good point, perhaps that's why the idea is so appealing, simply because it's different from how we picture our own universe.

    For my book project, it's more of a graphic novel/comic than a novel. My genres are sci-fi, supernatural, and fantasy. I'll combined the two together while adding adventure/action or romance. I like to call it a Series Outline than a bible. It consist of 12 sections: Story Development, Genres, Story Overview, Plot Summary, Characters with character designs, World building/Universe, Glossary, Prequels/Spin-offs, Timeline, Storyline, Number of books/Chapters and then Inspiration.

      @@AuthorKristenMartin Thanks Kristen! I think a Series Bible can be used for novels or for comic books, depending on the story and how much information is given.

    I think I will beat my sister. She loves to write books. As she does not know these 9 Principals to write a fantasy story book...

    Hi Kristen! I met you in Orlando this past May, except I had blue hair and not pink. I had a question about creating an LLC. When you made your Publishing Company, did you sign as your own Designated Registered Agent, or did you have to get someone else to sign as that position? Or does it vary by state?

      J.L. Todd the Diction Puppeteer Hmm, it must vary by state because this doesn’t ring a bell. Sorry!

      J.L. Todd the Diction Puppeteer If you don’t mind people searching your LLC and finding that you’re the owner with your home address, then it’s not necessary, otherwise you should get a registering agent. Basically this person acts as the mediator for you, kind of like a pass through like when you have a private registration for a domain. I always tell people to get a registering agent just to keep your information private, but it’s really up to you. Hope this helps!

      Of course! I'm 25 and I edit for plenty of clients (the oldest that I'm aware of was 65) who have creative ambitions. I'm lucky I was encouraged to write since middle school. I've published six books so far so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me anything. Good luck! :)

    2:45, that’s how long it took you to get to the topic in a 14 minute video, and most of those 2 1/2 minutes Worth spend on self plugging. Pro tip: overloading the beginning of your video with self plugging and asking for likes and subscribers generally leaves a bad impression on the people who see the video as the first video they see of yours. I can testify to this because this is the first video of yours I am seeing. In the future: please stick the plugs and asking for likes and subscriptions at the _end_ of the video, when people would actually have an opinion on the video, and thus, advertising of your other work would actually mean something to them. (Quick news updates are fine to put at the beginning thou.)
