Link to the Patreon page: www.patreon.com/cgquarterly I didn't want to take up too much time in the video talking about the Patreon thing. The primary "perk" is that you get early access to all of my uploads. This video is being released about 5 days early for Patrons, as was "The Sega Genesis in 1990". While becoming a Patron also gets you access to a special channel on the Discord server, that isn't really being used at the moment. As I said on the Patreon page, right now there is only one tier (the $1 level) because I don't feel comfortable setting up a system whereby people get additional "access" based on how much money they contribute. My thinking is that you either support the show or you don't, so you either get the Patreon perks or you don't. Perhaps down the road I'll have a change of heart about this, as I did about Patreon as a whole. Speaking of which, I can't over-state the fact that this channel takes up almost all of my free time. People say "I thought this was just a hobby?" and yes it was, but at this point it places demands on my time comparable to a job. As time goes on, these episodes take longer to produce because they are more complex. That does not mean that I don't enjoy making the show, or that I don't want to keep doing it. But like many of you, I have a career, a family, and a home, and if this channel is going to require job-levels of time, then it needs to bring in job-levels of revenue. This Let's Read took me at least 20 hours to make, and I simply can't continue to dedicate so much time to them when the TH-cam AdSense revenue doesn't reflect the time that went in. I would prefer to not have to chase down new sponsors for the show, which is why I launched the Patreon campaign. As I said both on the Patreon page and in this video, if we can get up to the goal amount, I will make sure to create a new Let's Read episode every month. If not, then frankly they are going to be put on the back burner while I focus on content that grows the channel and brings in ad revenue more commensurate with the work that they require. Thanks for reading, and (hopefully) thanks for your support!

Dear Game Sack, thank you for all the amazing content the two of you made throughout all these years. *GamePro TV* was a syndicated weekly video game television show that ran from 1990 through 1991. The show was a low-budget partner to GamePro magazine. Hosted by J. D. Great video. There were a lot of those celebrity gamers who I was not familiar with or had completely forgotten about. I remember having briefly the Miracle Piano for Nintendo. My dad had gotten it and made it clear if it was no good to let him know. I do not remember specifics but I think he could tell we were not going to use it and returned it. Seeing that price now I understand why he returned it. I don’t recall being very upset over it when he did so.
Keep up the great work Chris. I subscribe to both of your channels and i truly enjoy all of your content, but I think i enjoy the read thru's the best. William Shatners unedited comment: " What the hell is a Nintendo or a video game? Who let you in the studio and why are you bothering me? I'm going smoke a joint in the parking lot so outta my way kid"
JD Roth...GamePro TV, I was trying to remember where I'd seen his face before at the start of the video. I used to watch GamePro TV every Saturday morning, and I remember writing a letter to the show with a tip (since they posted up a blurb about sending in tips and tricks) for Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, which at the time everyone referred to as 'Baby Mario'. My Mom bought the famicom version with an adapter from our local rental store, and i didn't realize it was a Japanese game at the time since there was no text in the game, so in hindsight, it's no wonder I never saw my trick on the show, but did I ever make it a point to check every week! 9 minutes into the video, and you already took me on a trip I haven't thought about in ages. Thanks for another great read!
Freaking fantastic episode. My formative years were the late 80s/early 90s, and this was a blast of nostalgia. You are dead right about sitcoms of that time, most featured upper middle class families and Roseanne was the first sitcom that I remember featuring a lower middle class family like my own. It felt much more authentic than any other sitcom at the time, and still holds up today. Anyways, great idea to feature this magazine, I don't remember it specifically, but the style of the cover is very reminiscent of those pre-teen mags of the time.
28:48 "Nintendo StarTips" and than they show a Genesis game. Same with Bloody Wolf earlier in the magazine. I remember Christina Ricci also being in the Casper movie a few years laters.
What a trip takes me back hearing all these names and your content is so much better than cinemassacre would have loved to see you do that episode with makuly keep up the good work brotha!!!!
When I was a kid I loved Macaulay Culkin after the home alone Movie came out! Really enjoyed the part about him! I loved that SNES home alone 2 game! I owned it as a kid and it was the 2nd game I ever beat on my SNES after Mario world.
My sister was at Yale with Josh Saviano, he was in love with one of her roommates and used to lurk around their dorm... They thought he was a huge dork apparently. She also knew Melissa Gilbert from Roseanne pretty well, they has some classes together and were smoking buddies.
The only kid I knew who had the miracle piano grew up to be a band teacher for the local high school and they’ve won big state championships in marching and concert band.... don’t know how effective it is because he might’ve been a predisposed music nut but I’m sure it didn’t hurt
Gotta admit, the thumbnail didn't interest me for a few days but I gave it a chance. A real amazing episode which was pure nostalgia for this over 40 guy!
My cousin, with whom I’ve played video games since the late 80’s, has had the Tyson code memorized for thirty years. If I called him right now, in the middle of the night, waking him up to answer the phone, and asked him for the code he would be able to rattle it off without even having to think about it.
My nostalgia is off the charts right now. It's always interesting to see things after the fact, all the people here that either faded into obscurity or disappeared for a good while only to reappear upwards of decades later. That was so enjoyable though, it gives me the same feeling as when I'm in a shop and read through old magazines or something else from that retro era. 😂 tears of joy
I thought it was a fascinating look back. You should do more episodes like these. Also thank you for mentioning Ashley Johnson being Ellie. It's quite a seminal role for her. Also she was an extra in the Avengers.
CGQ have you tried sourcing some of the popular gaming mags from the UK? There were some great one coming out at the time there also, magazines like CVG, mean machines etc would make for some great content, also later on Edge magazine also was a game changer as it was the blueprint for the direction of gaming journalism going forward interviewing developers and doing specials on publishers and studios, things we take for granted in todays coverage. PS how can you forget Ashley Johnson!! From growing pains, especially considering she is the voice of Ellie from The Last of Us.
Great video CGQ! I agree about your comments in regards to Bloody Wolf/Contra being totally different. I always find it funny when people try to compare games based on a single dimension (like he's a commando dude). People used to do that all the time with the old DOS Wasteland game, and Fallout. Totally different games. Anyway, excellent job as usual sir!
Wow! In the UK, Pat Sharpe had practically the same career trajectory as JD Roth. On our funhouse we had "the twins" though. Did the yank version have their equivalent?
If you're still wondering what Tony Danza is up to, he was recently in one season of a Netflix show, "The Good Cop". I found the show to be a little uneven, but it's worth a look if you want to see Tony Danza being Tony Danza.
Great episode. My sister still knows the code to get to Tyson, I ask her for it every couple of years to see if she still remembers, and she always does.
The Wonder Years, that was the show. My favorite show of all time. GamePro was a cool mag, wish i could still buy the 1st issue for 10 bucks. Great lets read, brings back the memories.
I actually watched this entire episode! Good stuff! Not sure if I can give monthly but you definitely will be getting a one time donation from me this Friday! Keep it up!
I had Win, Lose or Draw. It was a pretty fun game, hard as hell to draw on there but still fun. You'd start to memorize the computer's drawings after a while.
The Wonder Years was one of my favorite shows as a kid, anytime it was on I’d watch it. The ending was kind of a let down but still a solid show. I think the patreon deal is pretty fair especially when your offering ad free on the let’s read videos. Collecting these old mags isn’t easy.
These video are amazing, and I'm not even from USA! I have maybe 3 issues of imported Gamepros, they are great magazines. Thanks for the site suggestion too! Top comfy.
Hey man, love your Let's Read vids - inspired me to try and make some of my own a few years ago, but they didn't go too well - anyway, I have quite a lot of British gaming mags from the late 80s and early 90s - if you're interested in me sending some over to you - just get in touch and I'll see if there's anything you'd like - keep up the awesome work - love this series :)
55:49 I had no idea "vidiot" was in reference to videogames. I thought it had to do with videos. There used to be a video rental store in Los Angeles called Vidiots. Maybe it was full of video games. Never went inside... only drove by it. I just thought it was another video rental store, and I was already a member at Hollywood Video; I even ended up working there.

Does anyone else love the way he stretches out the word on at the beginning of his videos? Oooon this episode..!
Very glad I didn't skip this video.
Instead of _Home Alone_ they should have played _Moonwalker_ .

Video earned you a sub here.
Great presentation and a buttload of nostalgia!
You make great videos. Thanks
I don't do patreon, but I joined your youtube channel.
Awesome, thanks!
Thanks for this! In case it doesn't get said, Phylicia Rashad was underrated hot!
Phylicia Rasha was bad as hell.
Cosby was framed
I'll consider supporting you on Patreon because I enjoy this series a lot.
Yeah, actually I just got the first 5 issues of Mega. Planning on doing one of those for the show.
Such a great concept for an issue
Great video CGQ! I agree about your comments in regards to Bloody Wolf/Contra being totally different. I always find it funny when people try to compare games based on a single dimension (like he's a commando dude). People used to do that all the time with the old DOS Wasteland game, and Fallout. Totally different games. Anyway, excellent job as usual sir!
Thanks, man!
Wow! In the UK, Pat Sharpe had practically the same career trajectory as JD Roth. On our funhouse we had "the twins" though. Did the yank version have their equivalent?
Yes, this Funhouse had twin cheerleaders. And my teenage self thought they were super hot!
Even though growing up in the Netherlands, we had all these shows on TV as well. Pretty cool to see some of this stuff again after all these years!
Thank you! Really cool magasine and a nice episode!
Wow. Thanks for letting me know about that site. Def going back to visit some old 90s EMG and GameFans from my jr high days!
Don't be shy. Register as a member and post in the forums. We're always trying to get them to be busier :)
Aaaaa love these. Prime content right here.
Definitely signed up for the Patreon. For a dollar, how could I not?
The Wonder Years, that was the show. My favorite show of all time. GamePro was a cool mag, wish i could still buy the 1st issue for 10 bucks. Great lets read, brings back the memories.
JD was actually in his early 20's, when he hosted Funhouse & Gamepro TV
I watched General Hospital when I was a kid. I had aunts and wasn’t allowed to mess with their TVs until their “stories” were over.
Very enjoyable video. You had mentioned what happened to Tony Danza. I heard he retired from acting and became a teacher in philly.
I like these magazine reads. It's like when LGR reads old sam's club toy catalogs.
When we get more of this awesome series? Thanks :)
The Wonder Years was one of my favorite shows as a kid, anytime it was on I’d watch it. The ending was kind of a let down but still a solid show. I think the patreon deal is pretty fair especially when your offering ad free on the let’s read videos. Collecting these old mags isn’t easy.
I hope for a Classic Gaming Quarterly episode about the Turbo Grafx 16 and guest starring Macaulay Culkin
Thanks for the video
Boom! Tetris for Jeff. I mean Chris :D
Josh Saviano looks just like Projared in that picture.
You being sarcastic made me laugh so hard!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man I havent been getting your vids in my sub box for a while. I thought you stopped. TH-cam at its finest i guess. 😂
He uploads once every few months. Probably his upload schedule and not TH-cam.
TH-cam's "subscribe" button is basically worthless now lol
That's because he does more vids on CGQ+.
He literally only uploads a video on this channel once every three months. Hence the name "classic gaming quarterly" CGQ+ is where he does more frequent uploads
