Thank you so much! I've always changed my own brake pads (and rotors when needed), but I've never had a car with drum brakes before. This makes it look much easier than I thought it would be. Wish me luck tomorrow.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Korbyn Kolton i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I just did this job as well on mine and boy was it a hassle to get the spring mechanism for the hand brake back in place as well as that metal u bar that hold the plates together. Something that I was expecting to take me 30 minutes took me almost two hours for both sides lol
Good job my brother you changed the brakes with only using three twos and that's still good you did a good job but as for me I would have used some vice grips or some pointed needle nose vise grips but you did a good job showing and I appreciate it very much now it's off to do my brakes
Good video, Always remember to tell people that the brake shoe with the most material goes on the back side. The brake shoe with the least material goes towards the front side.
Thank you bro. I'm also going to show this to a friend trying to learn rear breaks. And my HHR is the exact same color. You definitely earn a like, comment, share, and subscription from me
Brake job shot reasons no disrespect here but if your putting it out there do it right 1 noticed you did not clean the brake shoes after placing them on or the entire area with brake cleaner 2 you did not use any anti seize on the points on the backing plate 3 not sure if you knew this or not but a special tool is used for the spring of this type I will say I liked the easy way you left the spring in place instead of doing it the hard way which is after the shoes are on then try putting that spring back in place (a royal pain lol.) but a good video and just a heads up for others and maybe you forgot BOD HERE! the benefit of the doubt.
So I heard from my step dad that its easier to replace disc brakes than drum brakes. I replaced the disc brakes on the front end of my 2008 chevy hhr but this looks so much easier than a disc brake job.
Linda-Marie Donohue on this hhr rear breaks are easy but on other cars with drum brakes and springs are not that easy and some time can be a pain to install them.
Nice lesspn. You allowed me to see what you were doing and told&showed the tools to use. Nice job. Make more, I subscribed. I need to do: rack and pinion, sway bar and complete suspension system. If you got vidoes let me see them
I just did the brakes on a 2011. The spring setup was different, and I had to figure out by trial and error how to remove and replace the springs... totally different procedure than yours. The upper spring was behind the shoes, and the lower spring was conventional, instead of your W-spring. Was a bit of a trick to figure out how to replace the springs.
Good video. I appreciate how to videos, because of the labor cost. As of 06/28/2017, "Big O Tires", here in Bedford, IN, wants $75.00 for labor only, if you buy the brake shoes from a auto parts store.
Im about to do mine tomorrow i couldn't see you doing the sping and does it only come as a kit or can i buy seperatly my car shake's really bad when i hit my breaks specially on the highway
Exactly right beth plus look and how the wheel spins so free on the drum you have to adjust this no matter what there should hardly be any drag almost like the wheel is somewhat hard to spin freely or this brake job is useless bad video please folks look elsewhere to do it right buddy nice try but these are brakes not on a bicycle its a moving car that can kill you if it is not done right period..,.
No, just need to be adjusted. That screw spreader is the culprit. Now in 'theory' you can back up and d hit the brakes like a zillion times and it should self adjust. But there should be a small rubber gromet on the back plate you can remove and use the proper tool (or a screwdriver) and turn the adjuster.
Thank you JJ. You did the job so quickly. And made it look so easy!
Thank you for the refreshment course much needed, I goofed up I took the whole bottom out .
God is good 👍
👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏
Barron Harris: Thanks, J.J., for your clear instructions on R&R the rear brake shoes!
Thanks for the advice...now I'm about to fix my back brakes on my hhr

@Magnus Lennon No problem =)
Thanks Jesus, I might have to replace my brakes for inspection. Your video was informative and will probably save me a slew of aggravation.

Thank you. Getting the drum off the passenger side is a pain in the backseat.😂
Great job with your guidance. I was able to knock out my drumb brakes 🎉

james Thomas they only go on one way.
james is exactly right
No way to install wrongly. Current brake shoes are fool proof!
this is the worst brake design ever and you made it look easy, thanks
That's much easier than I thought man good job good video thank you
Thank you bro. I'm also going to show this to a friend trying to learn rear breaks. And my HHR is the exact same color. You definitely earn a like, comment, share, and subscription from me

Thanks for the help video still good today.
Yeah that damn e-brake cable is giving me a hassle too. Spring is really strong on it
I used wd40 and a mallet to get the drum off 😅worked great

what about cleaning all parts , greasing contact points and adjusting brake drum?

Can I repaint the backplate where is pad shoes, the cylinders? and the rotors also?,thanks
is it easy as that, do you not have to use a second person to pump and hold while you bleed and set the brake?
Why bleed? The system wasn't opened.
Good job bub

Thanks Man, you made that CRAZY Easy!!

should be the same if it has rear drum brakes.
Thanks that helped
Adjuster Springs then retainer
I have a 2010 and my brakes don't look like that.
Why not shoot brake cleaner get it all nice and spiffy before putting it back together
Not finished. You need to adjust those shoes
thanks
Not for 2010, they have a better drum system
If you want more views, add Chevy Cobalt and Saturn Ion to the Title.
This style rear brakes are not on the 2010 or newer. Old pain in the ass style.
Who buys a shoe for drum brakes? You adjust it.
Thank you !
