Honestly if you play on any difficulty above normal the bastard is just a cool looking paperweight. changing it to use pistol ammo was the worst thing they could have done to it, due to the crippled damage output compared to the revolver, and the fact it chews through your incredibly limited pistol ammo reserves. I played on ranger hardcore and the first time I picked up a Bastard I was ecstatic because it's may favourite weapon in the Metro series. I used it to kill 2 mutants, ate through my entire reserve of ammo to do it. Every bullet hit its mark. I felt so insulted by it I ditched it ASAP and never sullied my hands with it ever again. It's truly heartbreaking.
That's definitely true. I rarely used automatic fire... I was always prepared to, but an assault rifle with silencer and the bead gun/crossbow cleans every stealth section and can hold against mutants... It was a shame i don't even remember whether I became desperate at any point, unlike metro 2, where there were several areas where I knew I was going to die, only to pull out my LMG for a final stand... Absolutely glorious

@Panzai .Joe headshots with the 44 pistol my good man. Brilliant weapon for it especially with a scope, long barrel, double action 8 round cylinder and stock. After that run the air rifle and I usually carry a Kalash as it just works.
It really falls flat when compared to its brothers, too. Any other gun that is even remotely stronger can one-shot headshot. Some can even do so towards heavily armored enemies and/or up to long ranges, especially since other options like stealth takedown, throwing knives, and incendiary rifle/Tikhar ammo just... exist.
@@KusanaG11 what you have said it's true but looking at the other aspects of this gun it's really fun to spray down a Hall of enemies in an enclosed space, I got sick of always being conservative and I really don't run out of ammo with using a bulldog as my main gun, I always have max materials... The bastard gun in this game is really situational, it's not the best ammo efficient gun for the fact that it's an smg, it's sad that pistol ammo craft is only 6 shots per 12 metal and 6 chems but it's not so bad that it's unusable...
Try it on the hardest (ranger?) setting. Less ammo drop, big reliance on crafting and scavenging, enemies almost never surrender and you take pretty severe damage. Makes it challenging but also very rewarding!
The weapons of this game are so fun to use but I find it upsetting that 4A was never able to properly improve upon the stealth gameplay, a single mistake and everyone knows you're there.
Yeah, I fell in love with the revolver for almost any scenario in the game. Suppressed it can take out anything quietly. With the long barrel it becomes a sniper of a revolver. I love shooting 44 magnum in real life too so it makes sense.
During my playthrough Ranger Veteran I never really used the Bastard Gun due to me being in surplus of Rifle ammo for weapons such as the Kalash 2012 and Kalash (Just call them AK's) I only used the Bastard Gun to see what it was like in the new updated engine but honestly I was really disappointed
I don't really mind the bastard gun being overshadowed by the other gun cause lore wise it's worst and cheapest gun there is, but in game I honestly don't really dislike it that much, it's situational and most of the time you have to 2-tap headshot enemies, it feels great to spray with this gun in closed spaces and it saved me lots of time in a pinch, I do mind that I have to craft a bit for the ammo but most of the time I use the bulldog and of you are accurate you'll never run out of ammo with the bulldog, so yeah it might be the worst gun when talking about efficiency but it's a damn fun smg to use and it's not so bad that it is useless
I really wish we could get a mod or DLC. That centered around expanding the guns. I'd love some gun mechanic stuff like ability to increase ROF, decrease ROF. Chamber guns in different sizes, and so on. Sure it might be a bit arcadey. But I think it'd be cool. I just wish we got a gun expansion DLC though. Like adding new guns and whatnot. I'd love to see something like the M16 or PPSH in the game.
having gun expansions would be pretty pointless without new content to play. the game doesnt have much replay ability, and once you finish the campaign the game is pretty much over.
You somewhat do. In sams story (DLC) you have a ar type weapon, a American pistol. And im sure many other things. Its just a shame that they added to the dlc.
Yeah, that doesn't really make a lot of logical sense. Gives the impression the bastard gun should do way more damage than it does. I think they just wanted to give you a use for all the handgun ammo.
For me it's like a pdw. If you wanne go quite and fast or breaching style take a supressed bastard and shotgun and you good to go. It's a mp7 in metro :) Also good as a secondary close range weapon if you use a sniper
One of my favourite moments in the game from multiple playthroughs was the bandit camp with the train wagon in it. Equip it with a barrel mag, suppressor and only front grip made this such a treat… this gun overheating is the last thing you want to happen :P

If the other gun that you use uses rifle ammo you'll never run of it if you use a dmr setup and you can focus on crafting pistol ammo and for saving ammunition you can do controlled bursts with it so it's not so bad that it's not viable
My setup was a long range revolver setup, a rifle with the most damage possible, and the air gun thing. Such a shame you cant replace the air gun, its such a trash weapon and the only way to make it good is with the railgun attachment which is literally given to you on the last part of the fucking game.
airgun is great if you keep it pressurised. also the incendiary rounds were a life saver in caspian desert for me. go for headshots. i found it easier to score hs sneaking around from a distance than a rapid fire ak for example. i kept ak for cqc
The Tikhar was very neat but the game forces you to always have this stealth weapon at hand while it really should be replacable with the Valve, the airgun makes most suppressed weapons useless compared to it
this weapon is useless. can we carry a maximum of 120 pistol ammunition? ok, the weapon can carry a maximum of 100 ammo in the magazine, you will spend about 10 to 15 shots to kill a common mutant! this weapon is useless... which is a shame
@@titaiao me too man, 5 times now I used the bastard gun in one run with all most of the modifiers( other than grenadier, radiation forever and backpack limit cause they suck) and I didn't have a problem 2 - 3 shot bursting people when I deemed necessary
too bad the ai is beyond dumb, slow response, has no accuracy and have a tendency to said i giff up after dropping two bodies. ranger hc wont compensate the challenge. its not like when you crank up the difficulty the enemies became much faster,ducking,rushing,flushing, flanking and has a deadeye, lol no!. ranger hc means you die easily just by inhaling mutant farts.

New Game+ allows you to add modifiers to your game, like tougher mutants. That's as close as I can imagine you can go.

When I played Metro Exodus I used the Bastard gun and it was cool because you could turn it into a machine gun with the ammo box.
Right!?! I prefer the 50 round magazine because there will never be a situation where I use all the 100 bullets in the magazine
and after that you reloaded the save because that was just a big loss of ammo

@@souvillaine5131 I honestly ran the tikhar as a mid ranged suppressed gun, a revolver as my sniper, and the airgun in place of shotguns
