on the secret ending thing, to give Nomura even a *little* credit (cause someone has to) he has gone on record in an ultimania interview saying that he had *around* half of KH2 thought up while making the secret ending, so he didn't just pull all of that out of his ass and then give it meaning later. He did still pull *some* of it out his ass, and he definitely had to work to get some of those lines in, but at the very least the secret ending was basically built off of the rough draft ideas of KH2. Honestly, yall obviously don't have to do this for these videos cause its not what they're about, but the Ultimania interviews are such a fascinating look into Nomura and how he makes these games. Did you know that apparently he will go out of his way to leave shit in KH vague, down to even deleting explanations for things from the script, cause as a kid he hated when things were so well explained that he couldn't imagine his own explanations?

The Ansem Reports are actually mentioned in several important cutscenes throughout the games. The very first time you meet the Final Fantasy characters they're talking about the Ansem Reports and how Mickey is most likely trying to find them on other worlds. You get most of the Reports just beating the main story and in the original game there were only 10 of them not 13. These Reports will be constantly referenced throughout the entire franchise. It's a Major misconception that they're "Optional" when every single major cutscene going forward will flash the Reports on screen just to make sure you will never forget them. The secret ending of KH2 begins by just showing the entire Ansem Reports.

@@couchkidspodcastthat's because throughout the game you'll only be getting the "Odd Numbered" pages. Which makes Ansem sound like a good guy. Talking about how he wishes his citizens a happy life and how he's excited to learn more about how their worlds work. When you talk to Aerith she mentions how it's all the other pages Malificent has been hoarding to herself which are the "Even Number" pages which reveal all of Ansems true evil intentions. You're low-key meant to read them in order in which you obtain them. Not in a numbered order or you miss out on the intentional story telling bait-and-switch of Ansem being revealed to be truly Evil despite everything in the game telling you he's the Good Guy. The 11-13 Reports were added to connect KH1 to KH2 more smoothly. The hard part to explain is this is still barely scratching the surface of why they're important. There are straight up contradictions Ansem says in the Reports you're meant to sleuth and detect. Like how Ansem mentions opening a worlds door right after mentioning "One needs a key to open doors" which highlights the fact Ansem has always had a Keyblade. Or how this reveals the main purpose for creating Heartless was so he could create his own "Heart" by reverse engineering Heartless.
The main starting mystery for the first 3 games is "What is a Heart?" and "How is a Heart made?". It's vital to understanding the messages and themes.

i wanted to have this seperate but im sorry if i get a bit too lore dumpy or gameplay info dumping in these comments. i know way too much about the series and like to share aspects that are neat even if they dont matter for the overall plot.
The Enigmatic man, also called unknown cause thats what the journal calls him, was also a final mix addition. nomura tends to do this thing that with the release of the final mix he probably already has more of an idea regarding future games and therefore gets to be cryptic with some of the additions.
Ansem Report 13 mentions a nobody, which you have 0 idea what that is
all the cryptic stuff with unknown
and also i think that super epic secret ending cutscene was maybe one too. unsure about the last one it has been forever since i checked original ps2 kh1.
on the enigmatic man tho. he shoots lightning and has 2 non copyrighted lightsabers. like they come out of his palm or something but he fights as if they are light sabers, among other cool things and absolute bullshit (freeze command for anyone that played the fight)
“I will defeat you with my non copyright lightsabers” is my favorite quote of the series for sure 😂
Everytime you guys pull out something like the ANSEM REPORTS. I see him die a little inside, its not as bad as FF13 but it is damn you mean I have to read to find out the story? I played all of the KH games after KH3 DLC had dropped and had no idea how deep the rabbit hole went. It really doesn't matter how deep it gets you're never gonna know what kingdom hearts really is lol

Wait, they're not from Destiny Island, right? Kairi just showed up there on day. But in the first game we see Soras room and his mom calls him for dinner and in his room there's a window where he can look out and see Destiny Island. So Sora and Riku is from this town just outside of Destiny Island and Destiny Island is like a "club house" of sorts. Right before Sora is sucked into the darkness at the beginning he arrives at the Island and see two other boats at the dock so they're not living on Destiny Island
yes! I believe that's correct (someone smarter please correct me if not) in KH2 we also see scenes with Kairi looking out to Destiny Islands from a neighboring island town

i watched it on the way home.
a thing about kairi being from hollow bastion. its not just the ansem reports that tell you that. keep in mind i forgot what detail was in the first video and what wasnt but i feel it still worht pointing out.
a) during deep jungle you find slides for tarzan. cause tarzan didnt know what the word heart is yet and kept saying *&&X%! (in the subtitles i cant type gorilla)
one of these slides was a castle. and sora felt wierd seeing it, simply cause kairis heart was in him and hearts have the wierd ability to resonate to certain outside stimuli.
b) and the way more obvious one players are meant to get.
in the cutscene where kairis grandma tells the story about the creation of the world kairi and her grandma are in a library, specifically the library in hollow bastion that you go to a bit later. which is the more obvious way of knowing that kairi is from there
Especially considering that ansem report 11-13 were added in the final mix version, so western players didnt get to read these till the PLAYSTATION 3 release.

If you want to make it super easy the OP strat for ReCOM is to fill your deck with fire spells and ethers, and spam firaga since it does insane dmg. It can be even stronger if you get the enemy card of the red fire magic guy (named something like Red Nocturne i think) since it gives fire boost which is a big buff to fire attacks
