Soft spot in my heart for the basic Kilbeggan blend, it was the first whiskey that I actually enjoyed drinking neat! Always have a bottle of this on standby as it's also a solid cocktail base
@@TheGrailTastings aside from the classic highballs, sours etc. I think the light flavours in there would work well in something like an Irish Maid, or the one I've got coming out next week where I mix whiskey, cold tea, lemon juice and raspberry jam to make a really good 'brunch friendly' cocktail
Visited both Kilbeggan and Tullamore in one day about 5 years ago they aren't far apart. Kilbeggan at the time appeared to be owned by Cooley, they had two small working stills and an old original Coffey still, which was outside as part of the museum, and was on the site of the old distillery which had a mill too. Tullamore had a brand new distillery owned by our own Wm Grant and Sons (aka Glenfiddich), although the visitors centre was in the town where the old distillery was.
Its a fantastic place to visit. Go in the fall when the tourists are thinned out. The folks at the visitor's center and tasting room are wonderful. Its almost exactly halfway between Dublin and Galway.
A great review. My son is a bartender, and this is his favorite Irish Whisky.
Oh cool!

Oh, any cocktail recipe recommendations?

Teeling senior owns the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, (the same place as Cooley which is now owned by Brown Forman).
