I've noticed that Gordon never seems to be afraid to pick up all kinds of spoiled food with his bare hands. I think he yells at the bacteria to bugger off if it infects him.

In the second clip, even though he was infuriated and had every right to be, he was polite to the camera operators. He said, "Not now please." He's polite to others even when he's mad; he deserves hella respect for that.

@@bubblemage this one actually isn't. They have guidelines for filming and such, and the editors have full control of what gets shown, but this one for the most part is how it really is. And I have seen places like what's shown on the show, and I have worked with people that are actually that stubborn and incompetent. Hell, the manager at one of the kitchen's I cook at consistently has it out for me because I will toss stuff that has lost its quality and actually follow dates.

I’ve got mad respect for Gordon’s ability to shove his hands and fingers deep into all sorts of nasty crap, and he doesn’t even flinch. Some of the slime and mould on these food items must absolutely reek, and he just does not care, coz he’s too busy showing these people how foul it truly is. A living legend

I hope every employee at Café Hon found new jobs after this episode. It was very obvious that the owner, Denise, was the main problem with the restaurant and that the chefs and servers were trying to do their best with what they had. They didn't deserve to have to work with an egomaniac like Denise.
I mean, they did a revisited and it really seemed like Denise changed up her act. Hell, before her copyright nonsense the community seemed to really be behind her. I don't really know what caused her to want to copyright the word hon but it really just seemed like she was having an off set of years.
She eventually sold off the restaurant, I think? Or it closed? And now she hosts an annual event in that neck of Baltimore.
Café Hon closed for good in 2022. Denise actually stayed with the changes Gordon suggested and she was able to keep the place open. She decided to close so she could work less and sold the space to a company that had other restaurants opened. But she owned the place until the very end. The fact that the restaurant survived during covid shutdowns in 2020 tells you she was doing something right

It is so important to give back food when it is bad, but I have noticed throughout watching this and other episodes, the customers are giving back food for the most random and stupidest reasons ever.
When Gordon is there, they all act like food critics in front of the camera and would send back a perfect plate of food just because it was was 'slightly colder' than they wanted, and the plate has actual steam coming off the plate. (this isn't what happened, but a very similar example to the kind of bs excuses they make while sending the food) Some of the complaints in kitchen nightmares are valid and should be addressed immediately, but most of the complaints are so bs.
In fact, I even believe half of the chefs that say "Well, they loved my food before" because when the customers eat the food, there is no famous chef or cameras around, they just eat (if the food has no valid mistakes), pay and leave, not any of this stuck-up heavily food critic assholes.
Yeah, a lot of the time it's people wanting their 7 seconds of fame on TV, and they'll do anything to get into the episode. Whereas normally, most people eat, go "wow, that's a bit shit isn't it?" To whoever they're eating with, then pay and leave (and never come back)
They are encouraged by the producers to complain about anything not to their liking so that they can gather clips for the episode.
That's the thing though, and Gordon's said this before. An unhappy customer usually says nothing but never comes back. His whole point is "they loved my food" means nothing because obviously if they loved it the restaurant wouldn't be in shambles.
