As a bookmobile librarian myself, I find this very inspiring! I'm so glad the public is funding these kinds of outreach efforts.
You are a superhero
Two Librarians at Springfield Gardens High School in Springfield Gardens Queens NY played a big part in showing me that I could do anything. I thank Mr. Berkowitz and Mrs. Benkovits for being there just when I needed them. Thank you for this PBS Short. All of these videos are inspiring.
Thank you for bring the joy of reading a book to many people!
Yeah unfortunately public funding can’t beat capitalism
i guess im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
I wonder if that staff member ever knew how he changed her life. Beautiful story.
I hope that man got to hear from her, as well. Wow.
He would of came back to the camp and couldn’t find her, he’d ask around and find out that she left the camp, that’s when he’d know.
Imagine if the staff members was a spirit or a ghost
Most heros can't see their own capes
The greatest of heroes do good simply because it is a the right think to do, i would imagine he didn't know but was simply being a good person
This story made me cry. Whilst growing up in a 'turbulent' household, I took refuge in books. We were often cold &/or hungry, but I could pick up a book and be transported to the seashore. And thank goodness, in a school atmosphere where my sis and I were often picked on, for our poor shabby appearance, I could always take refuge in the library. I ended up graduating in the top ten of over 210 students. Many classes almost too easy, I still take refuge in books. Ty for sharing YOUR STORY Ms Reyes, thank you
I relate to this story in so many ways. The bookmobile was a source of comfort, hope & many happy days in my little unhappy world at the time. I still love books, libraries & those who have dedicated their lives to spreading knowledge & the love of books to all!❤
Thank God for books.
John 1:1...
Why does god get credit for humans developing written language, paper, book binding and abstract concepts?
@@Seek1878 right?
Maybe "thank God" is more of a saying nowadays but some people say it literally
But what do you expect? Christians say the bible is word of god
Somehow that means its made by god
@BitterVoid Let people enjoy their beliefs and religions. Toby isn't hurting anyone, just thanking God for the knowledge we have blessed with by authors and publishers
As a Washingtonian, this filled my heart with joy.
Mine too
such a lost part of american history, thank you for sharing your story!
Ya say lost part of American history
But honestly just seems to show fucked up-ness we did on the Natives (It said she came from a native camp and if you look back on history, western times, shit was crazy)
As someone who does not know what this is, may a summary be told about this?
@@Funkoh Simple it’s this...
@@Funkoh Girl lives poorly at a village and works to live barely. A bookmobile comes by and she was afraid but the guy let’s her in. Thinking of the near volcano she lives next to, ask for a book about it. She read books for months, finally having the courage to leave the village overcoming her fears by knowing more of what she had feared before.
Simple
2:21 That teddy bear was like "Did you just ate a book."
+Official Doge Is Away Haha true :D
Given how little actual food she seemed to have, it's possible the thought of literally eating the books crossed her mind. 😅
I live 3 blocks away from the Tacoma Library! Thank you so much for this amazing local story :D
Wow. Such a great story, I'd love to hear a more in depth story about her upbringing somehow.
SimplyZayy Yeah mainly “how is this even legal?!”
SpookyRoseV Back then everything was "legal" and allowed as long as it brought in the money
"The more you know about something, the less you will fear it"
I'm gonna keep those words of wisdom in mind. It's absolutely true. :)
I have worked in libraries and books stores, the power of a book is almost impossible to quantify.
i watched this without the sound. it made me cry, it made me smile. Storm found her wings in a book; she was a brave lovely girl. in my ideal world no child would be without a home and love. thank you for posting this.
What an incredible beautiful story this is--I also remember the BookMobilie as a magic element of my childhood. I was much more forturnate than Storm in that my family was committed to reading but no one in my 2 room schoolhouse had money for books--so the Stearns County Bookmobilie was a gift that kept on giving. When I was in the 2nd and 3rd grade kids would ask each other--DO you think you will go to high school--by 8th grade there was no question about the answer being YES!
The power of matching a reader to the books that will entice them is incalculable.
Wow!! What a life worth celebrating!! AMAZING. Thank you StoryCorps for this beautiful video.
Truly one of my favourite TH-cam channels.
I just turned 41 with a wife and 3 young boys. This is an amazing channel. I try my best and serch the best anecdotes to problems in young boys life, but this really helps on a very deep level. Thank you.
I have stories of my own hope some day somebody come to my door to hear it.
Loved this! Just wanted to say to whomever drew the background of this animation, great job! I live in Washington and I recognized my home state even before the story started. :)
This video could be 20 minutes long, and I would still be entranced with it.
I always loved the Bookmobiles. I still hope they're being used. I was overjoyed to see them come to my school.
Lovely, inspiring story
I remember hearing about this in my 5th grade English class. That day, my class and I had a group discussion about people who can't afford an education.
this is so calm and soothing
I've watched every animated story you guys have put up on TH-cam, and there's not a single one I haven't cried at. So many amazing stories! I love it! 💜

LOVED THIS STORY! Thank you storycorps!!!!!!!!!
Such a beautiful story and told so movingly with the media.
I remember the book mobile when I was a girl and I just loved it. It was a fascination to me that a small library would travel around in a big van. I loved perusing the shelves and checking out an armful of books. What a treat! I don’t ever see them around anymore.
My most cherished memories are of me and my mom riding our bikes to the book mobile. I remember she checked out the book Shogun and I thought WOW! one day I will read a book that thick! I loved my bookmobile....
Why is this channel underrated? people need to know its existence its stories are a beautifull masterpiece others need to know!!!

Reading and Literature is a magic portal to other dimensions and is as treasured as the gold in Fort Knox.
I fucking love books, man.
What a great story. Reading has the capacity to change lives.
Books are love, books are life
I love this lovely story. When I was a child, the bookmobile came in the summer months. I thought it was absolutely magical and can still remember checking out my first "big, thick" book there. Today, I shared this video's link with my community via the reminder email of our weekly bookmobile's visit. I hope it will resonate with everyone.
Another beautiful piece from such a wonderful channel.
books always have and always will have a special transformative power.
This story was amazing.
Beautiful! Thank you!
This brought tears to my eyes..
Fantastic story of hope!
God bless all of the librarians!
I remember when we had a bookmobile I loved it when it came I'm sad we don't have that anymore
What an inspiring story. Thank you Ma'am.
What an inspiring story.
Your stories just blow me away! Thank you for the work you are doing and for letting people know that passion only without purpose is just half of the picture - I would say it's actually harmful and not inspiring... So thank you for all the stories you share that speak of both!!!
Beautiful, inspirational and well animated!
What a beautiful story! Very inspirational.

Beautiful story!
Beautiful story
Wonderful story!
Awww that warmed my heart so much
This was an awesome story especially are used to live in Tacoma, Washington and I never know anything about the camps. I’ve been to Mount Rainier in couple of times it’s very beautiful there are used to be afraid it would blow up to but driving up the mountain is such a wonderful experience you just don’t think about it when you’re up there.
Much respect.
Well like said over and over again... One nice word or thing can change a persons life
I grew up in very different circumstances. We lived in a suburban development near where the newly built suburbs after WWII turned into farmland. That's not quite accurate. It was farmland that was slowly turning into suburbs. Anyway the area where we lived didn't have a library of its own yet, but they did have the beginnings of one. It started out on an old converted school bus into which shelves had been installed along with a lot of books. The library bus would travel around the community, stopping here and there so people could borrow books for a few weeks. Then it would return and they could return the borrowed books and get others. My father was, for a short while, one of the volunteer library bus drivers and I got to ride along with him one time. I rode in the back, sitting on the hump in the floor where the rear wheels on one side needed a bit of room above the bus's floor level. It's a rare fleeting memory from when I was mostly too young to form lasting memories.
Wonderful story - especially the ending !
Wow, this story really hit close to home, I actually live in Pierce county, WA
Wonderful! So inspiring -- thank you!
BOOKMOBILE WE GOT SOME BOOKS ON WHEEEEEEELLLSSSSSSSS
ROB'S MOM!
Knowledge is power after all.
Man. This is my new favourite channel on youtube. :)
Inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story
Cool story!
This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo inspiring
I love these kinds of stories :)
heart touching
All these people deserve statues
i stared cryin @0:14 i was in tears
I tell everyone: “READ. I don’t care what the story is about-pick something you like. Read about cars, a sports figure, making something, but _read!_ The fantasy, the _freedom_ from your life and allll it’s worries and problems, can inspire you, educate you, and improve things for you _without your even noticing_ because all you’re doing is just enjoying a damn book! What a shock it’ll be when you read the last sentence, close the book, look around, and notice how much bigger your world just got!
Books for the win :D
Knowledge is power
Just another story about the power of books.
I escaped into books growing up
I really love the stories that aren't about the death of a loved one and also about the Native American experience which is so often absent from major media.
I’m glad she was able to read the books although I am curious how she was able to read I didn’t think she had any kind of schooling education
Great story, but what happened to the old animators?
I think the animation in this is great but I love the old ones where the characters' are so charming and endearing, very expressive and cute faces haha, their emotions are very apparent.
+LemonMelonHoneySalmon I don't know, sometimes, the designs would remind me of Ren and Stimpy, and it could often get distracting for me. This style seems cleaner and more humanistic.
I'm not even American, and I like this shit
I actually live in King county and near pierce county. While they never said when this was it still feels weird to think I live in driving distance of that.
So pretty.
I laughed when the girl ate the books :D
That one man changed her life. where would she be now if he didn't come by and give her some books? probably still working on the fields
