- Onyx Boox Palma was clearly meant to be a phone, it's a little disappointing that it isn't but hopefully another Boox device will get mobile connectivity soon! Because it would make an amazing e-ink phone, if it only had a thumb fingerprint reader as well!

Are you saying you can't speak on it 🤔 but you can watch videos on it
Having a phone that you can actually see outside on a sunny day would be game changing for a lot of people. I could imagine even hobbyist photographers would appreciate this, if the screen can keep up enough.
This should work well just as it is for photography monitor.
For images it is currently unusable at least for anything professional. But there are actually phones out there with e ink
Check the hisense a5procc or a7cc
To me, an e-ink device that fits in my pocket and allows me to read on Kindle, Scribd, Glose, Play Books, Wall Street Journal, etc., is ideal. I don't need a phone, or color, or a fingerprint reader...just an e-reader that's always with me. I would like to have note-taking with a pen tucked away inside like Samsung does with phones, but I'll be grateful for this as soon as I can buy it. Boox site says the early window has slammed shut. Kit, do you know how soon we'll be able to purchase and for how much? Thanks for everything you've done for me. I appreciate you.
Thanks Scott, appreciate you too Bud.
Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is, I'm surprised they have sold out that quickly to be honest! But I'm hopeful that this was just the first toe in the water for Boox with a device like this! 🙂
@@KitBetts-Masters I’ve since read that the device should cost around $280. Apparently the early adopter version which sold out was $250.
@@ScottOtt Hiya, I think that is all, I think it must've been a very limited run. However, Boox are certainly a company that responds to market signals and if something like this sells well, they are sure to follow it up. Fingers crossed!
You can always get a foldable phone , you unfold it and you can read on a bigger screen than that, while still having a phone.
Isn't the width too small for reading books? Not enough words in a line
I would've bought it immediately if it was also a phone. A perfect device to eliminate distractions.
Look into the light phone then
@@jr.daniels7750 The Light Phone doesn't run Android. It removes TOO much functionality.
I pair it with my Apple cellular watch and get by really well
@@Orion33759 how?
@@Orion33759can you tell me more about that? Interested in your experience:)
If that has a phone, and video out with desktop mode (dex, ready for, etc) I would get one in heartbeat
if only it has a SIM card
I'll pick it up every time I need the Google Maps navigation.
Have been using my Samsung note 8 just for book reading and the crispness of the screen and text is another level.
I on the other hand wish it had fewer 'phone functions' and were just an ereader with a lower price tag.
Pretty cool, I just wish there was tech to have a standard screen and to be able to switch back and forth to true e-ink (NOT just turning the phone black and white - they are different experiences).
I miss sim card support so much. I was hoping to switch to this device. But now I hope they listen our praises and roll out now, improved version
Fingerprint reader 😅😂
Im happy it is not a phone actually 🎖️
The boox Palma is perfect just the way it is, it doesn't need to be a phone, plus I love to read a LOT, so I'm getting this in the near future
Apakah hanya hitam putih?
If it were a phone I would change mine inmediately
Side power button with integrated finger print reader like the MI 10T
Precisely!
If they ever do a color version of this device and don't remove the micro SD card I'll buy it on the first day no questions asked.
looking for an e-ink phone.... and e-reader in one!
Hisense makes eink phones
The biggest things to me about this device is the e-ink and it’s a pocketable size e-reader. That alone makes it an attractive thought of purchase. However storage would be a concern and the ability to connect it to your computer to download any reading material to files or even flash cards would be a very important thing without having to count on a website or cloud for storage. A note app,and calendar, with reminders would be max only missing a color version. Also the ability to purchase e-reading material from any sight so you aren’t restricted to where you have to purchase and download from. No GATEKEEPERS! At these prices the device is mine and should be usable and the material I pay for is mine. I’m purchasing a reader not a network franchise. I don’t want to pay this kind of money for something that will be outdated and even possibly useless just for a joyride that will end
I wish they would change the aspect ratio and make it bigger but still fit in your back pocket. Maybe a 16:9 on an 8 inch screen.
Yeah, interesting point, I don't disagree!
It can't call?
no
Hisense makes devices with bigger displays and potentially in color and with phone capabilities.
Would wifi calling work on this if you can download normal apps? Or is there no microphone/speaker at all?
Yes it does have a speaker and a mic
A screen protector could damage the Palma's screen?
The only thing I need is color display and they can take my money
Yeah, that would suit a phone better, and it's not too much more expensive than black and white at this size. Hopefully, this is just the start of a Boox phone form factor range. 🙂
Color display and fingerprint scanner
then just get any android phone lol
@@vn01208503since when they've got e-ink displays?
You completely missed the point of an e-ink device.
Does it have a backlight or just e-ink? Can you turn the light off?
This is a neat device.
For me to consider this, it would need to be the size of a samsung note device, a foldable too so i can enjoy a biiger screen when i feel like it. Wifi and bluetooth. Lte is not needed or wanted in this device. A stylus for writing. At minimum 250 gb of storage or the ability to add our own sata or nvme m.2 drives, sd cards, im tired of them. Dac is not needed, you have bluetooth for your audiobooks. And battery, the biigger the better. Thats the kind of device i would want for reading.
Those that want this as a phone under the guise of distractions than all dumb phones pre 2010. fit that criteria.
E INKKKKKKK
Is there a screen protector on the phone?
SIM slot, smaller (iphone 13 mini size) and DAC. Well thats more than one thing
Yeah, correct, there are a few things.
Micro SD card reader?
Yes.
Yes.
I just wish it had a stylus.
I'm not sure why so many people want their ereader to be a phone? I feel like its asking a book to be a telephone.
Because you can switch to this minimalistic device
It's literally just running Android. Turn on monochrome mode on your regular phone and you're 90% of the way there
Because making it a phone doesn't take anything away and removes the need for two devices. "Why do people want more functionality in the same form factor? I'm so confused."
@@DeCapitanOG minimalistic and asthetically convinenent. CAPITALIST BABY
@@DeCapitanOG there is a whole movement for compartmentalising your tech, havin a phone for communication, a computer for work, a tablet for play and an e-reader for reading, i've gotten onto the movement being able to pick up a device and know exactly what role it fills in your life saves alot of the blank scrolling you do on a phone or downloading a bunch of pointless apps you wont use, if im reaching for my palma im looking to read, listen to a audiobook or write something down, nothing else and that makes my brain happy
So what you want instead is... a Hisense A9? 😃
I definitely want to try one!
BOOX Adam😊
The best part is that it's not a phone. We need to focus on reading!
this doesn't have a sim card slot? what the hell?
How many people want a phone with a black and white screen?
Me
Can you write on it with a pen?
No, I'm afraid not. I think people would love to see a stylus which fits in like the s pen.
can it play minecraft
It plays games
It’s not advertised as a phone so there’s that.
so no way to use wazzup?
I would this to improve and have 5g network and esim and all other features i will buy it even if its expensive i want all the good features in this screen cuz i love this screen
Crazy there's no SIM card!
Super glad it doesn't have one
the finger print reader on that side wouldn't be very useful for left handed people. It would simply go unused. It makes more sense for it to be in the centre of the phone, at the bottom or top.
Спасибо за контент.
Можно ли запустить на этом девайсе майнкрафт?
If it works on android or will work here!
$279 is a small amount of money ? 😂
Comparing to my Xperia I mark V - absolutely. Like a 5 times
Lack of pen is quite remarkable too
I've never had a phone or e-reader with a pen. I know there are phones with pens, but they are definitely in the minority.
I couldn't disagree more. Adding more cost to my eReader to turn it into a less useful phone than my current phone seems like a terrible idea.
I'm just that much of a convert to e-ink to be honest! I don't totally disagree with you though, but I think with all these things there's a huge amount of personal priorities that dictate what you'll get in best with!
Davvero non si capisce perché non è anche telefono....
Si, networks I think?!
needs a stylus.
Would be cool.
Poor white guy 😂
You buy an ereader and then complain that it's not a phone?? 🤦♀️
Can someone explain to me what an E-Ink is and why does everyone seems to want it? It looks crappy to me and especially that framerate! 🫤
