@@plague1739 Hold on. So if a person is chugging soda, candy, pretzels, and sweets and gets diagnosed, they shouldn't cut out the sugar, just subject themselves to radiation? This is what youre telling people.
The fact that a doctor , who went to school for nearly a decade, can recommend you get a test done.... then insurance can just say nope.... has always seemed insane to me.
These Insurance companies are still making money even if they paid out with the majority of these "unnecessary" tests. Insurance in its current form is basically gambling but unlike gambling you are forced to play. Should be a law that the amount you pay is the amount they have to shell back out if a doctor asks for it.
American insurance companies are people who are the most ignorant to healthcare running how people get their care. In my opinion, throw the whole system out and start again from scratch. This healthcare system is criminal in and of itself.
They won't do that, though, because the government is basically paid to ignore this crap, just like all the issues with guns. (Not saying get rid of guns, we just need much better regulations on them, and to stop giving people assult rifles.)
If anyone's confused how a guy who's 31 and looks 14 has off the chart testosterone, it's explained by his high SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) which is a protein made in the liver that binds sex hormones including testosterone and prevents them from binding to their receptors. So the body thinks there is not enough testosterone becuase the stuff that's there is all bound to SHBG which there is way to much of. So it keeps producing more and more testosteroe to no avail. Why he has high SHBG is the question now and I hope he keeps us updated. As a Doctor this is a fascinating case, as a European a surrealist dark comedy about the US healthcare system and as a human a tragedy thrust upon a bright shining beacon in the world. Wishing you all the strength you need to carry you though this tough time. It seems like you know pretty well how to handle it 😊
I've had this happen. I was billed as uninsured for $600, and then when they applied insurance I got a corrected bill for $5k with insurance covering half of that. I ended up paying 4x the uninsured quote. To make it more insulting, my health insurance plan costs roughly 10% of my salary. I'd rather take the pay.
I am a doctor here in Brazil specializing in endocrinology. One of the things we can assess is the levels of luteinizing hormone (LH). Since you tested negative for HCG, high testosterone levels could be related to elevated LH, often resulting from a benign pituitary adenoma. Although this increase in LH does not usually translate into a rise in testosterone on its own, there are reported cases in the literature of this same condition. In this case, a pituitary MRI would be valuable for further investigation. Either way, I wish you the best, brother!
I was just about to comment that! Thanks for pointing this out. I am not an endocrinologist like you though, so it's probably for the better that you were the first to summarise this. The only specific field I have worked in / have experience with (until now) is neurology & neuroscience. I believe he's already had a scan of his brain done though, so they have already assessed possible neuronal issues.
@lucas_v_loiola 1. Autoimmune adrenal disorders: Conditions like Addison's disease or autoimmune adrenal hyperplasia may initially cause hormonal imbalances, potentially affecting testosterone levels. 2. Thyroid disorders: Autoimmune thyroid diseases (e.g., Graves' disease or Hashimoto's thyroiditis) can disrupt the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, leading to fluctuations in testosterone. Hyperthyroidism, in particular, might temporarily increase testosterone levels. 3. Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis: While these diseases more commonly lower testosterone due to chronic inflammation, some treatments (like corticosteroids) may indirectly impact testosterone regulation. 4. Autoimmune polyendocrine syndromes (APS): These rare conditions can affect multiple endocrine glands, including those influencing testosterone production.

For your insurance, for future reference, you can ask for a list of all individuals who had a say in denying your claims. 99% of the time they will change their decision BECAUSE most insurance companies have people who are NOT medical professionals looking for key words in your claim to accept or decline it, which is a MAJOR HIPPA violation.
Think that’s the same in Canada? I use to work for an insurance company in Canada and it definitely wasn’t like that, the client would have to provide all medical documentation from the attending physician and any hospital records, then the adjuster makes the decision from their based on set out rules the client would have already agreed to.

6:52 The way it works: The hospital has a "real" price - they charge this if you don't have insurance The hospital sets the price higher, and the insurance pays that markup, or some of it
And than you don’t pay the hospital bill. They can’t go on your credit report. Actually I just looked it up and I guess it can go on your credit if the hospital reports it to the credit bureau- but most don’t. I have never paid my hospital bills and my credit is decent ~700. Not ruined.
Everyone always harps on "Free Healthcare" but That's the criminal aspect of it right there. I rarely see people that will tell you the actual problem, getting scammed by hospitals. Whats the meme again, $900 for a bag of water? I think there would be a very nice middle ground of "free healthcare" and "free market" if they just were legally prevented from charging insane prices for things that are normally reasonably priced.
The insurance will pay less than half the quoted amount, which is why the hospitals inflate the amount due if you have insurance. However, you can negotiate the price you've been billed, just the way your insurance would have. So tell them you'll pay half of it, max. They should accept that, they're not losing out, there's still a profit margin even with you doing some horse trading. They're just used to being beaten down on the price. Hey styro. I'm a doctor in NY. Extremely high levels of testosterone is suspicious for something called Leydig cell tumor which is a type of testicular cancer. This is common in young men. There would be other biochemical markers but I would recommend you getting a testicular ultrasound. You can also do self exam to see if you can feel any lumps or painless swelling. I understand it may be overwhelming with the feeling of uncertainty regarding your health but I urge you to undergo more testing as it is a type of cancer and can potentially be cured if caught early.
And FSH/LH levels... Which were probably already done if the endocrinologist looked over your pituitary testosterone axis. Hell get a general DNA test and look for androgen sensitivity issues.
Funny enough Styro acts a lot like I did before I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Guessing my testosterone was way high too. I was actually 35ish when I was diagnosed. 2 doctors told me I didn't have it. But in one month a testicle got BIG and heavy! It was like a rock! It didn't feel like it was part of my body anymore. I had an ultrasound years prior and they said it was scar tissue. In other words doctors can't really tell and it's such a low impact cancer usually that you wouldn't dare to take a biopsy. I got that problem removed and opted for 2 years of cat scans to check my retroperitoneal (or something like that). It was a good move as that was 10 years ago and I've had no issues, plus didn't have to do chemo or radiation (which damages your body immensely). My testosterone is normal and I don't have any ED issues even at almost 50! So don't freak out, but be prepared to handle the situation quickly if you have it. That could keep you in 1A as opposed to waiting and pretending nothing is wrong.
I hope you can answer my question seriously. Should the bottom of the testicle have any kind of discernible bump or ridge? Should I be concerned if I can feel the tail of epididymus? It’s painless, to a point. Is this the kind of thing I should be concerned about? Or is this normal nut stuff?

Also, the trick to having procedures denied is to ask the insurance company the name of the *medical professional* who denied the the prodecure. 99% of the time, insurers do not have doctors on staff-- and they never want to be caught out on that. So they will *usually* approve the procedure in short order.

@ I really don’t understand, I mean makes sense that no outside party would be verifying every single claim was determined by a doctor but literally no one ever verifying that there’s even a single medical license attached and under payroll for the major insurance carriers would be insane. One of the largest legislative failures I’m aware of, assuming it’s accurate
@monhi64 Health insurance is almost entirely self regulating. No one checks. I've been disabled and needed a million different medications and procedures, all of which have been automatically denied. Every time I ask for proof that the procedure was denied by a doctor/medical professional, it gets magically approved. All so they don't have to admit there isn't a single actual doctor present.
Medical scientist here. I can't understand why they didn't dilute your sample and test it again instead of just reporting it as off the charts. I thought that was standard procedure. I hope they can nail down what's causing your hormone overproduction, and treat it too.
They might be trying to understand the exact number where if you dilute it with a specific amount of volume you can then determine the actual amount of something that might be "Off the charts"
I'm a student med lab tech, and my understanding is limited, but a baseline reading higher than the instrument's highest calibrator value could be regarded as clinically significant in its own right without necessitating a dilution. Once the cause of the hormone overproduction has been determined and he starts treatment, they'd be more likely to dilute the sample and obtain quantitative values to look for a drop in the testosterone levels in order to assess the efficacy of the treatment.
It's pointless having high test when you also have high SHBG though, it means your body can't make any use of all that testosterone nitpicking aside it really is the funniest way to be sick and I hope things work out

@@ferrisbueller9991as a minimum at least.
Yall the dumb ones who pay your medical bills lol i dont
It seems like you know pretty well how to handle it 😊
A scan costing 2x as much if you HAVE insurance is just criminal
American healthcare is a business after all
I've had this happen.

What about it being an autoimmune disease
I think he said his Sex Hormone Binding Globulin is off the charts. That can explain high T (yet no facial hair).
@@challengerking4358 I don't think I can recall an autoimmune disease that causes high testosterone.
@lucas_v_loiola

The hospital has a "real" price - they charge this if you don't have insurance
The hospital sets the price higher, and the insurance pays that markup, or some of it
And than you don’t pay the hospital bill.

They have their hands in enough pies that it probably wouldn't even matter to them. They'll just screw you on prescriptions instead or something
US law prevents an effective boycott of bad health insurance. Employers have to pay payroll tax on wages. This makes them want to pay people less. To compete for decent workers with low wages, companies give out health insurance as a perk. Since the boss isn't the one USING the insurance, they don't care if the insurance is any good, it just has to LOOK good on paper.
TLDR health insurance sucks because no one pays for it, employers do as a tax writeoff. Changing (reducing or eliminating) payroll tax is necessary to fix health insurance.
Remember when the government made it mandatory and tried to penalize you for not having it? People don't talk about that like they should..

6:32 - It seems quite common, it's much more messed up than you think, the insurance companies and the hospitals play this game where they send out a quote for more than double the price, the insurance company will refuse to pay, then the hospital and the insurance company will negotiate a lower price, then the hospital will write it off as a loss on their tax, even though it's not a loss.
It's a scam.
But someone makes money, so its going to keep happening :(
Wait, how?! I’m not a tax specialist, but how can you claim a discount itself (even a fictitious one) as a loss
"Writing it off on their taxes" is shorthand for "I dont understand what's happening but I don't like it"
Often the quote the insurance get's is like 20x the actual cost, you have to personally cover like 10% of that, which is still 2x of what you would pay without insurance.
That sounds like actual tax fraud though, seems like something the IRS would like to know about.

Also, the trick to having procedures denied is to ask the insurance company the name of the *medical professional* who denied the the prodecure. 99% of the time, insurers do not have doctors on staff-- and they never want to be caught out on that. So they will *usually* approve the procedure in short order.
Also, the trick to having procedures *approved (mistake in original comment, could cause confusion)
Thanks for the tip!
I think you mean to say that 99% of the time a doctor didn’t make that decision, right? I think that’s what you intended to say but the wording made it sound like there’s not a single doctor working with the insurance company
@monhi64 No, that's what I meant. In the US, you''re as likely to find a trained doctor working for an insurance company as you are to find water in Death Valley.
