The sad part is that darkness gives consciousness to abstracted ppl which means they are conscious all of the time in the cellar, feeling lonely, and hopeless only having memories to cry over, Kinnersley wife maybe in a worse situation than kinder himself as well as the other cellar prisoners., including kaufmo, who when he git consciousness realized he got replaced by pomni since he processed everything, and he will be in harsh feeling of betrayal.
Along with going into Kinger and Zooble, this episode really gives us a lot more insight into Caine as a character. He's just an AI trying to do what he's programmed to do, even though he understand completely what the humans want. He puts so much heart and soul into his adventures because that's his only purpose of existence, and if he's bad at the one thing, then his existence is meaningless, and just the thought of that is enough to give him an existential crisis, but unlike Gummigoo, Caine's programming isn't sophisticated enough to be able to physically handle that, so what we see is his version of "abstraction" which is basically the end of the circus along with everyone in it.

Also, no one said Caine's adventures aren't torture, the problem is, that as an AI, Caine is incapable of understanding that they're being tortured. He's just trying to fulfill their requests to the best of his understanding, but doesn't understand the nuance of them.
