Stopped bass fishing in the mid 90's. Various encounters and experiences showed me how wonderful and beautiful they are. Fish feel pain. Hooks do lots of damage. Catch and release is no guarantee that they will survive. When you catch a big bass on it's bed, it was protecting it's young. It's just right for me. I feel different about it all.

During my first marriage we got 100 gallon saltwater aquarium. And we had two Puffer fish. One of them always got excited when I came home. I would go over and before I would feed them I would tease them at the top of the water not dropping the food in immediately. One day he started squirting me spitting saltwater at me when I teased him too much.

When regarded with respect, empathy and compassion, other animals change humans for better. They have this spiritual power over us, not the other way round.
I was told fish do not have personal thoughts. Now I'm not so sure that was extraordinary to see that especially with a smallmouth bass. You definitely chose to be friends that seems like a personal thought to me LoL 😅😅

When I was younger we had a Goldfish named Piggy and he lives for about 8 years. He had the neatest little personality and knew when me or my Mom or Dad were there, we would put the tip of our finger in the water and Piggy would get all excited and then kiss our finger! He never did this to anyone else that put their finger tip in the water just us. The day Piggy died we were all so sad because he had become such a part of our family. I think our kitty (who just seemed to know to not mess with Piggy) was even sad when Piggy died. I will ALWAYS remember him 🥹❤️

Growing up in the VI, I often worked day charters. We'd moor at the the same moorings. The fish there knew we'd feed them and were super friendly. There was even a friendly barracuda I got to know. On the reef below me was a puffer fish that was a friend named Bette Davis. And around the bend of the reef, we'd free dive down to pet sleeping sharks every morning. Anyone who takes a sec to don a face mask and snorkel can make friends with fish.
I love humans like this, who share all of their wacky adventures with us. It's insane how animals (fish) sometimes act around people. What a joy to watch! 🐟💓👨

He really does love this guy. Fish dont usually expell energy unnecessarily if they dont have to defend themselves, their babies or their territory. He clearly thinks of him as family and doesnt want any other fish to get near his human

I think that was so cute he wanted all the attention on him. He kept pushing all the fishes away like he's mine go away lol. Yes the river and ocean is dangerous but it can also be beautiful 😍.

I had an identical experience in Bermuda where I would dive in this one bay for old bottles. A small colorful fish would attach itself to the side of my mask when I was moving thru the water. It was always just the one fish (maybe 4" long). Never left my side. I figured he just wanted whatever goodies I would stir up in the sediments, but he didn't really go there. Stayed next to my mask.

Some species are very intelligent. others are more like bots. the intelligence of bass is how you end up with "pressured" lakes. where the bass are fished for enough that they can better distinguish lures from food and somehow that knowledge gets passed down through subsequent generations. making it far more difficult for anyone to catch them compared to ones that havent been exposed to any of it. whereas this effect doesnt seem to happen with others species in the same lake. its truly fascinating

Im glad so many people are being shown that fish are not mindless automatons but are intelligent feeling creatures just like other animals that we sympathize with. I am a dedicated fishkeeper, and have learned so much about these creatures. Most wild fish can adapt to life in captivity within a couple days, some figure out you are their provider on day 1. I see them on the same level as reptiles and birds.
Every species any creature on this planet is special to someone. We all have a personality, and we all have a special bond with each other or another species!!!!!!
This happened to me when I was snorkeling decades ago. Fish are intelligent, clearly. Theyare social animals like any land animal, and must therefor exhibit similar behaviors. They've been around for a very long time and inhabit an extremely complex enviroment. It follows that they are a lot smarter than we ever thought. Some fish actually use tools. Many fishes construct their resting spots and nests, just like animals on land. Clearly, they learn quickly and remember what they learn for a long time. That's brains. Elvis Lives!

In Northern Wisconsin in a pristine lake, I would dive for crayfish and lift logs. Smallmouth Bass would follow behind and attack the crayfish they saw when I moved the logs. They are smart fish, but usually there is food involved in situations like this. In the video the bass takes a worm right out of his hand...
Fish are so much cleverer then we take them for granted. They’re seriously such smart creatures and I cannot express how much love I have for them
After seeing this, my faith is strengthened and I'm more sure that the animals on this planet are loved and love us back. I cannot wait til the day comes when we can freely wander the plains of the African Continent without fear of predation or mauling because the lion shall lay with the lamb. GREAT VIDEO, animals of all kinds can tell if a person means to harm them. I have been blessed with the opportunity to help and interact with many animals where I am from. I was raised on our farm and in our wetlands or swamp, which is located in extreme South-West Georgia. My Grandfather and I have raised Bobcats, Foxes, Raccoons, Hawks,Owls and an Eagle who lives in my backyard and has raised several little ones of her own. They have always been free, but several have acted like pets. The Bobcats followed me around like a dog and in bad weather would sneak inside and sleep near me. The fish is a blessing from GOD so enjoy its companionship and be thankful for the time together.
The day someone catches Elvis and doesn’t release him is the day we raise hell

It probably also helps that this guy forages for them!! I watched his tik tok and he'll grab little critters off the bottom to feed to the bass. He now has not just Elvis, but other homies he's named as well, but Elvis is still the one true love story here. It's super cute how they all swim up like "Hey, it's Landfish! What up my duuuude?" like he's made friends with another tribe of people

I love how animals and nature change their behavior toward us when we change our behavior towards them. It’s as simple as the energy we project through our eyes and our being…curious, wonder, and awe or division, violence and utilitarianism. Such a beautiful connection. I truly believe animals love human affection and get to unfold and explore different aspects of themselves in the human gaze, grow and flourish in the human-animal-plant dimension. We really are stewards and can use our ‘placebo affect/affection’ to uplift and shift things to the best possible. Thank you for sharing.
