Once the Musical comes to the Phoenix Theatre in London direct from Broadway having won an astonishing eight Tony Awards including Best Musical.
Once the Musical tells the story of an Irish busker, who is considering giving up, and a young Czech woman. Throughout the show they are simply known as the guy and the girl, they bond through their shared love of music and begin to writing together.
Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, who wrote the music and lyrics for the film, have composed the music for Once the Musical. They won an Oscar for the song Falling Slowly.

I loved the film when I first saw it and went to see the show for my 40th. It absolutely blew me away how simple the entire set was but it has been one of the best shows I've seen. My only regret is not seeing it more than Once.
This version melts me. Masterpiece.
I saw this musical in Warsaw and the girl had a much softer (also beautiful), more Disney- voice. But somehow this version, with the touch of raspiness and a firmer sound resonates with me even more.
Her voice is INCREDIBLE
I love the song and I love this version, such a unique voice, so full of emotions
This was a special musical for me, I hope they will bring it back at one time
For me, this is at the same lvl with Phantom of the Opera and Les Miz

I don't know why but i really liked the movie version better in terms of singing style.
So far Zrinka is my favorite Girl, but I haven't heard Laura Dreyfuss, so I'm not sure.

Nothing really beats the first cast with Milioti.
True but I think the best has to be marketa the movie was just iconic.
Uhm i dont know. Personally, her type of vocal style its so much screaming and this song is more slowly and softly
Emotionally and acting wise this is grand...but this style requires a type of vocal style that she doesn't quite have, so I wonder why she is full voicing parts that shouldn't be so...it's folk music which never should be fully 'belted' except on VERY rare occasions.
+Jennifer Hiemstra Maybe the director wanted a different spin on it, or liked the spin she put on it. That stuff happens all the time!
Oh I understand that completely! I understand different spins to a point when they make sense, but to full on belt folk music is stylistically inappropriate, Obviously someone had a different idea...I may not agree, but I can disagree and not chew a head off lol..or at least I hope not!
+Jennifer Hiemstra I would usually agree with you, but I think for this song in particular, since Cristin Milioti did the same thing on Broadway, the directorial approach to it may be that this is the point in the show where the emotion starts to stretch far beyond the music. Girl and Guy bonded over the music at first, but it's blossomed into something much deeper. And that may be what the belting a folk song becomes symbolic of: her feelings are much louder than the words.

@Halcyonacoustic well unfortunately, the director didn't agree with you. And last time I checked both Glen and Markleta supervised the production from the workshop until the show opened on Broadway, and they gave their blessing to this musical version including Cristin Milloti's spin off the Girl character. Also, this is Broadway, you can't have a Broadway show without the female and male lead belt during the emotional scene
