I was fortunate to see the original London production in the mid 80's as well as a couple of the American touring companies. Really miss the energy and talent. Thank you for sharing.
I love how the cast wave at and high 5 as many kids on the way out as they can! Those kids will never forget it. That's the future of UK musical theatre right there! Well done everyone! - Gary
I saw this a few weeks and it's absolutely brilliant. Ignore the naysayers who are all clinging to a version they saw in the 80s that changed 9990 times before the run even ended 😂
I will go and see it if it stays open for long enough, I will give it benefit of the doubt, but as someone who saw the origional at the Apollo a few times I fear a few tears of disappointment may be shed. if you are going to do something do it it properly and I don't think the Lord has done his masterpiece justice. looking at ticket prices I may be better off skating off to Germany to see a more spectacular authentic production.
@@danielbushen4661 That doesn't answer the question. Is it worth the astronomical pice for a ticket? The Apollo version was very affordable and ever dollar was seen before your eyes. This looks like a Box Trolls musical
Der Chorgesang klingt sehr gut, die Solostimmen schreien ganz furchtbar und das eigentliche Highlight, die Rollschuh-Choreografie wirkt hier peinlich bemüht. Kein Vergleich zur Produktion in Bochum.
@@Rik77 It's a live orchestra. They're playing either under the stage or behind it. There would be monitors around the theatre for the cast to watch the conductor for their cues.
Loving all the (ignorant) comments by people who haven’t seen it 🙄. I’ve actually seen this new production twice (at the time of writing it’s still in previews) and I LOVED it. And strange as it might seem to the naysayers I also enjoyed the original which I first saw in 1986, and several times afterwards until the last night in 2002! Guess what, if you saw the original you are not really the target audience for this show. Take the kids, or suspend disbelief for a couple of hours.
Look we're all really impressed at how bad the poop in your pants smells and everything but there is no need to describe it in elaborate detail here for everyone
The biggest problem is the small stage and set - which is giving cruise ship vibes. The show needs spectacle. The most impressive thing I can see is a few skaters skating backwards down the back ramp.
As one who worked on the production at the Apollo, I find this rather disappointing, not as much as the Vegas production, but nevertheless. I don't think the track is as dynamic and I'm guessing the bridge isn't used for Electra's entrance, that was always a bit of a thrill. Worst of all, Greaseball's a girl!!! Reading the comments that Only You and Starlight Express have been cut that is a great pity.
Amazing! I saw it at the Apollo in the 90s. It’s still my favourite musical ever. I agree, this is disappointing. Where is the diversity in the voices? With that gone, it’s just like another high school musical to me. Next time you fall in love was also taken out . Maybe someone couldn’t do it justice 😢 I preferred the elvis version of greaseball too. Smaller stage, so I get why less cast. But why do we see the controller? The adults really look like toy trains next to him on stage don’t they! Seeing it in Jan now so maybe it will be better live than this clip gives it credit for. 🤞🏻 Bet you’re really proud of what you guys made back then - and rightly so. It was incredible. 👏🏻👏🏻
Yee, the skating seems very slowed down and lacking energy. The stage was possibly too small for the cast to skate fast and do proper tricks. I'm going in August, so I hope the show surprises me. The costumes feel too crowded. They should have simple, distinct silhouettes. The main characters should stand out from the supporting characters, which they don't here. When the cast are on stage, they feel overcrowded and don't stand out from each other. Greaseball feels like a background character. I love 'I do' in the German production in the megamix, and has always been my favourite song, but it just doesn't hit the same here. I'm gonna suspend my disbelieve until I see it and hope it proves me wrong.
It’s the discarded ideas the designer had for Six (she designed the Starlight costumes too). She’s never seen Starlight (it says so in the programme) and she couldn’t even be bothered to attempt to make the costumes look like trains. It’s just lazy 😖
I saw the show this week and oh my god, it was amazing. We loved every second of it.

I so wish we were getting a cast re cording of this! They are fantastic!
They're selling it on vinyl so I assumed they'd release the soundtrack officially at some point? I'm praying!
@@joey1723 I think the vinyl is the 1992 cast sadly :(
@@dustymew Nooo! I'm heartbroken! Have we had official confirmation that they're definitely not going to release it?

It has £13 million in advance sales - I think it's going to be alright somehow

You echo my feelings. We will see this 31st July. I loved the original with Lon Satton as Poppa and Michael Staniforth as CB.
I paid 29.50 for mid week performance booked 48 hr before.
Off to see this tomorrow as original run was till end of this month now I heard until this time next year wonder if it'll extend again
Original run was until Feb next year. You may be confused with previews 🎉

How many new songs are there? Which song from 2002 show are still there?
Starlight express
Lettuce hear it for ... the lighting?
Indeed. The orchestra sounds good, too.

How can you say that it was bloody amazing saying it’s awful and totally awful it’s harsh and cruel Andrew Lloyd Webber is amazing

You are welcome to your opinion, of course, but why be so aggressive about it? It is not needed.
Hate the Greaseball-change and the costumes, but like the Set:)
well i like the old costumes girls looks so big , I PREFER POPPA NOT MOMA BUT PERHAPS ,,,,,
Guess we lost the 'tightening my nuts' joke
"Only You" was the whole bloody point of the show. And they've cut it?
That was cut years ago
What do you mean it was “the point of the show”?
Only You has not been in the show since it was first reworked in the early 1990s.
Is Greaseball female now? I knew they changed Poppa to female but Greaseball too?
Oh no the train is a different gender how awful!
@@mysteriouscolours1532 I didn't say it was. I was just asking !
Yes...ALW hates white males.
Yes, Al Knott is sensational too. Think Joan Jett as opposed to the previous versions Elvis.
@@finalfightguy why would she be changed and not add a male carriage car? Same thing??? Right???
Saw Starlight last night, the show was great but should never took the songs ' Only you and Starlight express ' out.
Not as good without them!
The song Starlight Express closes Act 1
Only you was one of my favourite songs, but that was cut out as far back as the “new” starlight express back in the nineties
Loooks good but if you want the magic of Starlight Express come to Germany.
Looks like something you would see during Jerry Lewis" telethon on labor day.
Which cruise ship is this on?
The HMS Crapula
LOL

Because I’m American and that’s how we do it in America. And yes, I saw this on the 16th of June 2024 during my visit to London.
