  • As the Russians moved towards Germany from the east and the Western allies attacked from the opposite direction, the Japanese continued their battle in the Pacific, fighting the American Marines to the death on the island of Iwo Jima. As the endgame loomed, desperate measures were taken by both sides and casualties continued to mount.

After what the Germans and Japanese did to Warsaw, Rotterdam, Belgrade, Stalingrad, Nanking, Manila, no one should have the least bit of remorse for Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima or Nagasaki. None of this should have happened, but never forget that the Germans and the Japanese were the aggressors.

My father enlisted in the Marines after Pearl Harbor and fought in numerous island battles in the Pacific, and because this really interested me I’ve been reading books for 35 years about Europe from 1930 through WWII for 35 years! I would hope that the documentaries you watch about history will stimulate your curiosity to learn more and more as time goes on. Not only does the brain not retain information learned passively (by watching rather than reading), you’re never going to get anything but the very barest minimum from 40-55 minutes, on _any_ historical subject. As you heard, the narrator simply recited one fact after another, with no explanation. One of the best historians on all fronts of WWII is *MAX HASTINGS,* who is a fabulous writer, and I’m certain you can get his books from your local library….for free!

Hitler was so angry at his generals, his armies, and the people of Germany for “betraying” him (he actually used that word), and he wanted every city decimated and every soldier killed. If his troops recaptured Antwerp, well and good, but Hitler knew that were low on gas and ammunition. He actually ordered Albert Speer to commence the destruction of the country, but Speer couldn’t bear to do it, and confessed this to Hitler just before he committed suicide. What a gawd awful waste!

This is from Amazon Prime Video. I forgot the company but they have dozens of these docs on Prime Video. This particular series goes in 3-month increments for the entire war. The docs are okay, poor video quality, same soundtrack featured in all videos. The stories therein are very accurate and are accompanied by a well-written narrative throughout. They were created and produced in the US. The only ties to Europe are the TH-cam Video Poster, who may be French, if we are basing it on their TH-cam Handle. .

The First is labeled "Hitler: The Wolf." The 20th is called "Nuremberg". The only other info given is under 'studio' it says "CLA". The aren't available on Prime any longer, (like most videos on Prime now) so only the Prime video info. was available. I was not able to play the video and actually read the credit.
