- And here is the 10th and final part of our look at obscure PC games of the 90s. We look at the games released in 1999.
As usual, I cheated a little; some of these games weren't obscure at the time. Drakengard and Demolition Racing for example, were quite popular. However, those titles have been dormant for decades - and if you were not around at the time, you may not have heard of them.

I lived in this time and remember only 1 of these games. I left the Internet on all night to download a 40mb demo
Why the heck do I not seem to know any of these? Even if I was involved into PC gaming from the early 90s to 2000s and since today. That's how obscure they are!

Creating this series was a lot of fun, but it was also incredibly difficult and time-consuming, especially the later installments. There were two problems: finding the games and, more frustrating, getting them running. While I am very proud of the results (and happy that people like yourself are enjoying them!), I need a bit of a break before I dive into more arcane Windows 98 insanity.
But yes, the plan is to continue with more obscure PC/Windows games at some point 😉

Yeah, I get that. PC games aren't the easiest to run, let alone to get. I had to experience that myself many times for my channel.

The mayority of these "obscure videogames" videos are just nostalgia bait and only show well known games. But man, in this one I only recognized 3 of them.

Where did you get that version of exploding lips? I recall it being lost media, with only a very early demo being avaiable online. Nice list of games!
Excessive Speed was real fun and with a great soundtrack, I used to put the cd on in my car stereo 😅

Great list! I played a bunch of the demos, but only played to the end of two of the included games - Recoil & Drakhan. Most of the games I never even remember hearing about, so kudos for that!
For Drakhan though, I think it would've been nice if you'd included a clip of the dragonback gameplay, as that was the far better part of the game compared to the on-foot melee combat IMO.
I have one question: is the footage original? If so, how can you play these games in modern systems? Are you using emulation or an old computer?
The only ones I know are Carnivores 2, amazing game, Malvinas 2032 and Prince of Persia 3D (idk if I would call this one obscure). And there must be a lot more obscure PC games, mainly japanese (although most of these are visual novels and it would be kinda boring to make a vid with lots of them), korean and chinese releases.

It is funny. You have to open a pizza restaurant and can do criminal things to your competitions.

Archipelagos 2000 - The graphics are nice, but I miss the atmospheric music from the original Amiga version.
I play Codename Eagle for many many years, it's actually what eventually evolved into Battlefield!
I also played a lot of Gubble and Gubble 2, no idea why he looks like that in the video though... his voice lines are forever stuck in my head.
And i had no idea about "Skull Caps" , but I used to play the first game in that series though, it's called "Baldies".
But I refuse to believe that Lego Racers is "obscure"!
I remember picking up rhe big box of it as a 16 ye old.I had fun with it but it wasn't a bigger project like half life,soldier of fortune,quake 2/3 unreal/unreal tournament but it was a decent enough game as far as I remember it's been 24yra since I played it
I playwd a few pf these back then and heard of a few more that i didn't get around too because of a small town and slow dialup.We didn't get alot of games and this was b4 gog and steam

I actually own LEGO Racers... on the N64.
It is unfortunately one of few N64 games that requires a Memory Pak, otherwise you pretty much have to play the game in one sitting.

fucking loved Arcomage in MM7-8. Always wanted to try out the stand alone version but never could.
And fking LOVED Drakan! That game was amazing back then. Except the ending...and then the made the sequel ps2 only back when I didnt have one....was so sad.
I remember Revenant being pretty fun. And PoP 3D being pretty bad...
There are too many clones in 1999 huh? Some real rarities (someone remembers Gromada!). And the rare sequel (Skullcaps). The 90s were weird, but varied.

Yes, Carnivores was relatively popular. There are a few games that should not be part of this list, like Drakan, Abomination, Lego Racers, Revenant, Heavy Gear II and Prince of Persia 3D. These were not obscure.
