    I was directed back to this video by a strange reply to my previous comment. On watching the video again, I still can't believe how uninterested the audience appears to be. Hardly a smile throughout the performance. Were they actually expecting Andre Rieu?

      it's because it's in the "Podlasie" voivodeship/region, being the subject of many jokes about how behind they are and in general, known as the worst region of Poland (ofc it's a stereotype, but there's a true part two ;)

    • @rolandscales9380
      @rolandscales9380 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've missed the point. This is a sequence from the final act of Molière and Lully's musical comedy 'Le bourgeois gentilhomme" which consists mostly of flamboyant buffoonery set to pompous music. This is because the principal character, Monsieur Jourdain, is a pretentious, social-climbing buffoon who really belongs in the Conservative Party. His daughter's (disappointingly middle class) love interest is trying to make Jourdain think that he is an Ottoman prince who is seeking his daughter's hand.
      I guess you really have to know the play.

      Peut etre c'est parce que c'est dans la region de "Podlasie", etant sujet de plusieurs blagues et consideree comme en peu le "fin-fond" de la Pologne. Bien sur (la plus part du temps) c'est un stereotype, mais il y a en peu de vrai dans tout ca ;)

      @@Celal3406 merhaba maalesef verdiğiniz bilgiler doğru değil. Lully 1632'de doğmuş 1687'de ölmüştür. Yani nereden baksanız Kanuni'nin ölüm tarihi ile Lully'nin doğum tarihi arasında 60 yıl kadar var. Lully bu parçayı Moliere'in Kibarlık Budalası adlı oyunu için bestelemiştir. Bu oyun da Türklerle dalga geçen bir oyundur. Bu eser ilk yazılıp, oynandığı sırada Fransa'da, özellikle Paris'te, Osmanlı Devleti ile ilgili her şey sosyal ilgiyi çekmekte idi. Bu oyun bundan ortaya çıkan "Türkeri (Turquerie)" modasını, özellikle 4. ve 5. perdelerinde, yansıtmaktadır. Bu moda 1669'da Fransa Paris'e elçi olarak gönderilmiş olan ve Fransa Kralı "XIV. Louis"'in huzuruna çıkmış olan "Müteferrika Süleyman Ağa" dolayısıyla ortaya çıkmıştı. Bu elçi Fransız Kralı'nın huzurunda, Osmanlı Sultanı'nın sarayının, kendine "Güneş Kral" ismini uygun gören, Fransız Kralı XIV. Louis'in sarayından kat kat güzel olduğunu söyleyerek Fransızlar arasında bir skandal yaratmıştı.

      You have missed the point. It's a historically informed approximation of 17th century comic ballet, and the music is incidental to Molière's satirical play "Le bourgeois gentilhomme", which incorporated grandiose music and dance. This was the nature of comic theatre in France at the time. The programme notes read : "L'entrée des scaramouches": the entry of the zanies or clowns.
