When I was a kid, I hated helping my Grandfather tend the garden he raised every year. Now I'm really glad I did, he taught me how to live off the land, he had me shooting twelve gauge shotguns at eight years old and running trot lines also. Skinning squirrels, rabbit, and deer were also taught me by him. Which here in Southern W,V, is the norm for most kids. He's gone now but I remember every thing he taught me and thankful for it. Be excellent to each other people, we're all we got, later.
The truth of this song never meant more than it does now in this crazy world. Country boys and girls will get through this. Thanks to our elders for passing on the knowledge, like we should to our kids. Y'all keep your head up and stay strong. Country folks WILL survive!
Starting to really make sense now ! Love this song, and my pawpaw was a west Virginia coal miner, other was a Kentucky dirt farmer. I got a shotgun, rifle and a 4 wheel drive, but none of that will get you out of here alive. JESUS is LORD! Put your faith and trust in him.
Were they part Indian. Me and every red neck I know have Indian in us around here. That's y I don't get the left saying white people stole the land from the Indians. Maybe them coming from the powdered faces and white wig aristocrat loyalists they killed the Indians off. But us we became the Indians threw marriage

My baby sister passed at 33 yrs old in 2013. Family Tradition is 1 of 3 songs played as her ashes blew into the sky in fireworks! What a beautiful ending to such a short life! As her big sister, I'll never get over her....💖🐾🙏
As a 30 year old, i was on a tactical response team, I was a military contractor, I owned 2 companies, and my fiancé was killed while I was on duty at our own apartment. Is it weird that I relate to this song. I feel like an old man and just trying to get in where I fit in. I love this song, “my body’s weathered and worn”
I mean... I grew up like this. I've always had a garden of edible food. I learned to shoot a crossbow at 10. I can drive a stick heh. I never thought these were survival skills. I just figured this was adulthood. My most recent investments? A trailer hitch and new roof racks. And some damn good fertilizer. When you gotta run you gotta run. Love to you all. - single mom, physics student, farmer's kid , dead shot, country girl
June 2021 I was getting ready to receive my first radiation treatment for throat cancer, my head was strapped to the table, the doctors had just left the room. I was scared to death. I prayed in my mind and asked God to please give me a sign that everything would be OK. They asked on a speaker if I was ready then asked if I wanted to listen to music I said yes. Iwas expecting elevator music and then This song started playing. I said thank you to God.
I am a direct descendant of pioneers that settled Indiana when it was known as the North West Territory. My great grandfather fought in the Civil War. To this day, you bet us country folk can survive!
Country boys sure can survive. I was Hanks next door neighbor back in the early 90’s. I was in high school at the time. I use to walk up Sweathouse Creek and fish for trout. Hank had a pretty nice fishing hole in that creek that produced many brown, cutthroat and rainbows. Montana was a great part of my childhood. My dad was an outfitter, named the road we lived on after his outfitting company name, Wild Rose Outfitters. You can publicly fish Sweathouse creek if you jump in at Red Crowe road. Best trout fishing ever. Cheers to Victor, MT. Good times!
