This is a kit containing everything you need to convert your official Red Octane Guitar Hero controller into a modded guitar controller with RGB light-up frets that you can use with Clone Hero or YARG on PC, and Guitar Hero/Rock Band on PS3, PS4, and PS5! Also works on Android and modded Xbox 360s!

i got the GH5 version of this kit in the mail the other day, just now assembling and your 3d printed frets are to big to cleanly move through the neck, they just get stuck in, or out.
Thank you so much for this kit. I had a broken Les Paul so this kit is perfect for me especially never modding anything before and not having a soldering machine. Everything works just the way it should and the buttons feel so nice to play on. Definitely would recommend this kit to others.

What neck support was cut?
The only small difference with the Wii LP was a different piece of neck support to cut out. EXCELLENT video, you made this about as idiotproof as it can possibly be. Kit is so comprehensive, thank you for your hard work

@@n3gativ3z3r0doing my Wii LP right now. You'll need to snip some plastic at the bottom of the neck where the braided cables are gonna come out. You might be able to get away with no snipping, but it's a tight fit and worth the peace of mind to just snip it
@kyletrent with the wii LP you did was there any other changes? I don't mind doing the case cutting but I was more concerned the joystick would noonger function too.
@@n3gativ3z3r0 Joystick wires get snipped and does not work with the Arduino board, or it's at least not mentioned in the guide. I left mine unplugged like the guide said
@@kyletrent.mp4 you're the man for answering so fast. I was wondering one last thing. Did you notice any other odd differences in the Wii version? Did it set up okay and install okay?
Some helpful tips for those with a Wii World Tour guitar (got mine today and ran into 2 common problems seen in the comments). I believe these same tips will apply to a GH5/Band Hero Wii guitar. I wanted to put this comment to the forefront as it seems a lot of people were having these issues.
1) It's possible either your Start button or Starpower/Select button will not work. Either-or will not register whatsoever in CH if you try to change its binding. Happened to me, and I found that all I had to do was swap my Ground wire to the center terminal on the strum boards section for these buttons. In other words, follow all the wires original paths, not the labels on the board (I believe RCM mentioned he was going to swap the Ground terminal - maybe the boards are being printed with an older schematic but updated electronics.)
2) At least for the WT guitar, I found my strumbar was either sticking or double strumming after directly installed the strum board. My fix was using the 4 washers included in the kit as spacers beneath each screw. It makes the strum bar much looser than it normally is and allows the navy switches enough give to depress and return the bar to center. Some might find the bar is *too* loose, and i've been reading that doing the overstrum-fixing tape mod can add back some tightness. The springs included with the WT strumbar are simply too weak to recenter the bar - maybe installing stronger springs can mitigate this issue without adding the washers but I haven't tested this.
3) Use RCM's configurator seen in his pinned comment. It makes setting the board up for use insanely easy as it automatically finds the pin bindings by loading a preset. You won't see Start or Starpower/Select options in his configurator, but don't let that deter you. They automatically bind and will work in-game if you've installed everything correctly.
Do you know any other possible solutions for the stumbar thing? Mine isn't clicking back in place when I strum it up or down. I tried using the washers like you said but it didn't help
@@tyfi31I just had this issue, for me it was that a piece of the strum assembly had stuck to the old board that I was replacing when I removed it, after I put that back in place it worked perfect

Dude, the new Santroller firmware is exactly what I was looking.. I just put my guitar together an hour ago and was looking for a way to keep my LEDs on. Couldn't have been more perfect timing. Thank you helping me bring some life and personality back into my guitars!
I just did this for an old broken ps2 kramer and Im fucking blown away how good it is conpared to any other stock guitar that I have ever played. I instantly got new high scores on like 20 songs lol. Amazing stuff!
The low latency + new strum switches + mechanical frets combo is the best you can get; its hard to go back to anything else!

@retrocultmods once it's wired can you still use it on the Wii, or does it make it a PC only guitar. I'd like a wired PC for my Wii.
Just completed your Kramer solderless kit and it works great! No body modifications nor extra wires or splicers were needed in my case.
As a quick note for those modding a Kramer, there are two possible Start/Select/Ground connections: the one shown in the video on the same side as the USB C connection, and another on the bottom (ST/SEL/GRD if I remember correctly). The bottom one is at the perfect length for the wires and has matching text to what's on the guitar's board.
Another tip, while your guitar is open, is to pop out the little wireless switch toggle on the side of the guitar to create the smallest hole for your cable. Use flush cutters to trim and round off any sharp protrusions on the inner side of the tab, then poke the USB C end through it before assembling.
Sorry if this is painfully obvious or if you've already mentioned it, I've never modded anything like this before.

@@retrocultmods I'm curious if you're open to selling standalone fret boards with more haptic switches similar to MX Speed Silvers. I'd even special order them from you if you're open to it. Just personal taste, everything works as intended, but having grown up with an Xplorer guitar, the red switches are a little too sensitive and lack that haptic feedback I'm used to from the membranes. The guitar is more than playable, I just find myself ironically getting a little tripped up playing faster songs. The guitar actually just tipped over and fell on its back and that was enough to make some of the LEDs light up lmao. Either way, thank you for keeping these 15yo+ controllers alive!

Bro you are a savior! My friend and I bought some old LP controllers in the hopes that at least one of them would work but we had connectivity problems with all of them.. Our only options was either buying expensive modded controllers or keep buying old controllers and hoping for the best.. but not anymore! We're gonna give this kit a try asap, thank you so much for making this!

Better then spending 240 on a mech modded premade I’m doing the same got a 20 buck goodwill online one coming. Also getting 3d printed strum bar but less than half the price to diy and solder less I’m sold

I had an old PS3 Les Paul that for some reason Orange registered as pressed down without being pressed or without the neck being attached... So I picked this up and can I say this purchase was worth it! Now the LP is my main guitar (my old main was a RB2 Strat). It's helped me improved so much that I even FGFC an entire game. Something that I never thought I could do. So thank you for making such an astounding product! I was thinking about adding more guitars to my collection so I'm definitely doing this for future guitars!
I bought and installed this in my Wii Les Paul and oh my god it plays like an absolute dream now. I was having a couple of issues with my blue and orange frets randomly flickering when being held down and I'm so glad I decided to take the plunge and mod it because it's like 10x better than it ever was before. The only remaining issue I have is that the whammy bar doesn't work, but it was already acting funky before I installed the kit, so I imagine that the potentiometer or whatever it uses decided it was time to kick the bucket. Kinda sucks but it's still worth every cent I spent on the kit, and installation was an absolute breeze besides a few PEBKAC issues.
Thanks not only for making the kit, but also making one for dopes like me who couldn't solder a wire to the broad side of a barn.
Can you still use the stick? Or no, I'm wondering because I just bought the kit but idk if I should buy a 3d printed cover for the slot or not
@@Swednerr The zero board has some places for the wires from the control stick board, but I didn't bother wiring it up so I have no idea how well it works.
I have a wii les paul too but I use it on rockband for PS5, do you know if it still works for RB4?
I think on top top of looking cool this will fix the overstrum issues I've been having on all 3 of my World Tour guitars, so im looking forward to trying this out. 😊

Just did this mod, and it worked flawlessly! I did this on the Kramer, so for me, I didn't need to modify the case or do any extra wiring, thankfully.
Im getting this for a kramer too in about 2 weeks! What screws did you need to open the guitar and what hole on the wire stripper did you use?
@@ariac4080 Sorry for the late reply! You should be using a T9 security bit for the screws on the back. As for the wire stripper, I used the 26 hole, but you can use the 28 as well, I think both should work. Just be sure not to put too much pressure on the wires when stripping, or you might break the wire entirely (from personal experience haha).

And knowing this can let it retain its connectivity with PS3, PS4 and PS5 all while turning it into a wired guitar.

Just modded a Kramer using this guide. Didn't need to use any of the clips or extra wires! Thank you. That makes two RetroCultMods guitars now.
How do you strip the white wires for start, select and the ground?

@retrocultmods I will! One Question does this Work on Kiosk Les Pauls aswell? There are some Differences. It's Wired and the Screws are under the Faceplate 😳
This video needs an update BAD. The guitar software looks and works COMPLETELY different now and I don't know what I'm doing on it at ALL🤦🏾♂

I even saw the link to the one with the Retro Cult Mods preinstalled inputs and downloaded it to the guitar and my inputs don't even work correctly, on ANY console, not even PC. Like I said, dude needs an updated video on the new layout of the manager bad because EVERYTHING on there is different from the video. I don't even know how to correctly manually put commands on each individual button.
@@ACanadianMonk The vid is outdated yes, but the new software is actually way easier. Download from the pinned comment link, once downloaded run the .exe, select the kit u purchased, once the bar reaches 100% click configure. It should automatically configure ur buttons, u can press them to test. From there u can adjust little things like rgb brightness etc.
Once finished save the changes. This might open file explorer, after several seconds it should close itself and then u can just exit. I play Clone Hero and it worked perfect for me, just set it up today 👍

@jrdamanat I had the same issues. Video is super outdated and the only build video available for reference. Pictures of parts on website is old and made me think I was missing stuff. Eventually I figured it out and got it together. Then faced the same problem with software. It kept recognizing the guitar as a V3 board input. After trying so many times to delete and refresh the input settings and no buttons working. I finally decided to try changing the input from V3 to the Solderless kit. Boom! Everything lit up like a Christmas tree. All inputs, lights, whammy bar, and tilt sensors are working flawlessly. So try to reset the calibration, then change to solderless and upload those settings to the guitar.
Just set up my World Tour controller with this setup! The neck is definitely a bit more forgiving for wire routing haha. Thank you so much for the video!

@@SuperRKO92 just a little, but when you're in there you'll figure it out! I think the biggest difference was I just removed the electronics for the slider (but reinstalled the face of it so there wasn't a hole in the neck lol), otherwise I just followed along with the video and routed the wires where it seemed appropriate.

How did you go about mounting the fret board? There's a hole for the top screw to mount. But nothing for the bottom screw? The original fret board was longer and sat all the way down onto the next groove rather than hard mounting. Thanks!!

Only wire strippers they had were highest 20s. In theory I can make it work, but man, so strange I haven't found anything bigger lately.

i bought 2 kits for the Wii Les Paul, and one works amazing, but the other red and yellow buttons aren't working. The green button works so I think I have a faulty board. Any tips on how to fix?
I also have a Wii LP kit that I've been working on. Everything seems fine except for the red and yellow buttons (but their leds still work in the config). Any clue what might be the culprit?

@@RainDevs I tried to find this comment the other day but couldn't lol. In my case I hadn't followed the config steps correctly.
Make sure that you reset to factory first instead of hitting configure.
Then set device type to zeroboard sl and device variant to zeroboard sl default v1.1 (if that's the kit you're using).
Hit erase and configure and after it finishes writing it should just work. That's what worked for me at least 🤷♂️
I got mine working using the V1.1 preset instead of default. However now my minus button doesn't work.
It’ll be really cool to see a kit for fender stratocaster guitar got one for the Wii but sadly won’t turn on at all would love to just mod it and use it for pc
Do you not need a dougle when you modify the guitar this way? Because I lost my dougle and unfortunately getting another dougle is very expensive
Is there an additional post you cut off? The written guide also shows you remove the bottom one. I have the soldering kit and the post by the usb-c is interfering with the case closing
Anyway to make a solderless mechanical fret kit? Or at least a way to install this kit to change the frets without the usb cable / RGB being used?
Are you wanting to keep the stock strumboard and only change the frets, or are you just looking for a kit that replaces everything, just minus the RGB LEDs?

Does this work as a good low latency option for a guitar? I have a Wii less Paul with a raphnet adapter but I wouldn't mind getting a Xbox 360 les Paul to make one of these. Looks rad.
Sure does! This kit would turn the guitar into a directly wired controller, which is currently the lowest latency option out there!
Hi! I got one kit and it works amazing except for one thing, the select button to activate the OD in PS5 RB4. Is it supposed to work too or not really? Start button works fine, I'm using a ps3 les paul and matched the labels on the boards with the wires. Additional question, can I wire the guitar pad into the board too? I'd love to navigate with it 😅

There is no xbox 360 kramer. Only PS2 kramer.

i just finished using this kit for my wii tar and everything works great! However i am having trouble figuring out how to program the led's because the current version of the software is different than whats in the vid, any help would be appreciated! 😀
Im having the same issue.
@@VaRaptor1995 use the santroller guitar configurator instead of the santroller controller configurator. its deprecated but it still works for what we need it to. you'll need to revert the pi pico to arduino in the santroller controller software before it shows up on the guitar software

I have a Wii Les Paul and i ordered the Wii les paul version of the SOLDERLESS RGB LED Kit. Is installing it the same thing as this video shows or is it different since its a wii guitar?
Its the same; the only difference is you'll get two more splicers and some wire for hooking up the joystick if you want to, it is not necessary for the guitar to function properly though!
Will this guide be helpful if I were to mod a Kramer? Are there any significant differences in the process?

i modded my kramer and it work great but the strumbar lil bracket thing didnt fit on the switches so sometimes it goes out of place then i gotta strum a bit for it to go back, any tips on how to fix this?

Currently none of my kits will work with any Warriors of Rock guitar due to size constraints.

Just put mine in. All my RGBs work except for orange. I’ve unplugged all connections. At first none of them worked but after unplugging and reconnecting I got 4 of them to work. Any thoughts?
When I tried to setup the guitar initially it wasn’t saving now when I plug the guitar in nothing shows up on the guitar configurator any idea of how I can fix it

I'm looking into buying a kit for a Xbox 360 Warriors of Rock controller. and to play specifically for the Xbox 360. do any of the replacements supports normal console play wired and wirelessly, and would the d-pad and Xbox button still be in use?

@retrocultmods I seen that you didn’t use a couple of the terminals in the circuit board, what are they for?
got to the configuration step, and everything seems to be working fine besides the start button. when i try to bind it nothing happens, like the button isn't connected. i've tried rewiring the start / select wires, but have had no luck.
this is for a Wii world tour solderless btw.
Fixed it! All I did was swap the wires. Left the ground in the middle, and swapped the other two and now it works flawlessly.
Does this also make the guitar wired? I have a wireless 360 Les Paul with connection problems. All the buttons work it just keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. Would this also fix that problem since it would be wired?
I'm having trouble with the LEDs. They're configurated and plugged in correctly, but I am unable to see them light up (or at least correctly). I followed your video step by step, but ran into this issue. What did I do wrong?

I had the same issue with my Kramer, everything worked perfect except no lights on the LEDs whatsoever, trying to change them in software would default to black with no output. I was all ready to send an email but I managed to fix it! I fiddled with the connections slightly (they were snug but perhaps not perfectly fit in), restarted my pc, re-plugged the guitar in, checked the software and all is well. So if anyone stumbles upon the same issue try that first!

I do want to tackle Rock Band controllers eventually, but there are some more Guitar Hero controller projects I want to get done first!

Is this kit good for professional playing or more like casual playing?
I've had both types of players use my kit. For casuals I'd say it's a great upgrade, and for "pros" it depends on what you're playing.
I've heard that silicone is much better for tap heavy charts, but mech frets will do you just fine for basically anything else!
Looking at buying new M3 x10MM t10 screws for the body as mine are toast, only ones I've found have "flat" ends instead of pointy, or sharp like the standard ones in the body and neck, is that a problem?
Is the solder version 1.1 PCB compatible with the rgb fret board? I have a v1.1 installed on my Les Paul and would like to add the rgb fret buttons.

So if I have a Wii Les Paul guitar that is still in working condition would it be better to just get the adapter V3? Or should I just get the solderless kit?
If it's still working, get the V3. Personally I would do that, then when the LP starts having issues that you don't want to deal with anymore, kit it out!
How would I go about adding in the joystick? I’ve found it’s impossible to set practice points in a song without a working joystick / Dpad, and I wanna try to wire it on, but am afraid of messing up the wiring and breaking something.
Hello, just sent an email but I'll post a comment here just incase. My yellow and red buttons are not working. LED function works when I test it but pressing the button does nothing and doesn't light up as well when I press it. Everything else works.
Make sure you are using the correct preset; make sure you read through the instructions via the provided QR code!
So I don’t need to V3 adapter to use this on the PS3 or PC right? Just making sure I get everything I need.
That is correct, kitted guitars do not need adapters!

Yes! After I get the WT and SG frets done, I plan on doing the Xplorer! Its a bit more involved since I will need to make an addition breakout board for Start and Select.
