- What happens if you get rid of press freedom, judicial independence and introduce curfews? Re-election apparently! In this video, we play Democracy 4 and attempt to turn Brazil into a Police State whilst ensuring that we do not get assassinated. We end up creating intergalactic socialism with a moon base and a mars base, as well as fixing obesity, but in the process CRIPPLE the economy beyond all recognition. At one point, we literally just started printing more money, leading to hyperinflation. Not to worry though, because we got all sorts of achievements, such as creating an egalitarian society - so I suppose you could call this a Democracy 4 guide or tutorial.

Democracy 4 lets you take the role of President / Prime minister, govern the country (choosing its policies, laws and other actions), and both transform the country as you see fit, while trying to retain enough popularity to get re-elected...
Built on a custom-built neural network designed to model the opinions, beliefs, thoughts and biases of thousands of virtual citizens, Democracy 4 is the state-of-the-art in political simulation games. A whole new vector-graphics engine gives the game a more adaptable, cleaner user interface, and the fourth in the series builds on the past while adding a host of new features such as media reports, coalition governments, emergency powers, three-party systems and a more sophisticated simulation that handles inflation, corruption and modern policy ideas such as quantitative easing, helicopter money, universal basic income and policies to cover current political topics such as police body cameras, transgender rights and tons more.
Democracy 4 is the ultimate sandbox for testing out your political ideas. We all think our politicians are useless and that we could do a better job ourselves, but is that really true? With one eye on the budget, one-eye on the polls, and somehow finding time to watch out for terrorist attacks at the same time, you will find that staying in power while changing society for the better is a tougher job than you ever imagined.
Would it really be a good idea to legalize all drugs? to give the police machineguns? to ban abortion? to invest heavily in green energy? would UBI really work? can you stay elected after cutting pensions in half to pay for your science budget? There is only one game that lets you find out!
The intention in designing this game is to have no implied bias whatsoever (tricky, but we try!) so this is NOT a game that is going to lecture you about politics, or tell you that your beliefs are wrong. This is a strategy game, not a political protest :D. If you want to turn your country into ayn rand's fantasy, abolish all public spending and all taxes, you can do that. it might work, it might not! depending on how you handle it. On the other hand if you want to nationalise the railways, the energy companies, the water companies, cap CEO pay, ban second-home ownership and put universal income in place, you can do that too. All the game tries to do is model the likely effects, short and long term of any action you take.
Because modders have so enthusiastically supported earlier games in the series, we are doing our bet to make Democracy 4 as mod-friendly as possible too, and steam workshop support will make choosing and installing mods easy. Ultimately all our data is in text files that you can edit yourself, so if you think our analysis of the link between car tax and car usage is wrong (for example), its trivial to edit it, and share your changes with other players.
Ultimately Democracy 4 is not a game about simply winning an election, but about running the country. Losing an election is just the end-game (unless you get assassinated), the real challenge to the game is whether or not you can create a country you are honestly proud of. I hope you enjoy trying :D

As a Brazilian, I have to say, in the last election you say you destroyed this country, but, in fact, you've made the best version it could possibly be! No crime? Especially organized one? It’s great until people realise food prices are sky high and no one has any money! I really have no idea how the state is paying it’s employees with the hyperinflation - I mean, health *is* at an all time high so maybe it’s all for the best?
@@TheSocialStreamers We've lived through a hyperinflation once and survived, we will manage to do it again ;) plus we have so much land, who needs to buy food when you can plant it! And in the end we're healthy! yay! hahaha

Democracy (as in the game) is so easy once you learn how to exploit it. Force everyone into patriotism and then establish a police state, which patriots love. Now max out income tax. Now start doing whatever you want bc your debt problems are gone and you'll never lose an election again.

I know it may sound strange due to the distance, but Chinese illegal and predatory fishing in South American waters is an actual and quite serious problem. They usually stay just beyond the border between territorial and international waters (which sea life, unlike humans, do not recognise) until they deplete the fish (and other creatures of the Oceans), and then just move on. Some of the boats have been at sea for years. There are ships that bring fuel to the fleet and then take the fish back home. It's a threat both to the environment and to the national sovereignty of countries which are however quite tied with China in various ways: economically, diplomatically, and so on...

Personally I turned Brazil into a Conservative Capitalist (auth-right) secret police state with rampant nationalism. Although it's easier now since baseline Brazil is now a lot more conservative by default.

The driving animus behind both is the idea of exposing the "undeserving"(i.e. not white, just like Rothbard wants) poor to "tough love"(cuts to food aid, healthcare, housing benefits and other things needed for immediate survival) thus implementing social darwinism by denying them the help they need on the grounds of "the right of property" of those that refuse to help them.
The right to property does not exist naturally. In the natural state you can only own what you can prevent others from taking from you. Therefore a state that only enforces property rights is artificially strenghtening the rich at the expense of the poor. The notion that this is somehow fair is absurd imo.
