    The secret to reading and comprehending is that you need to imagine while reading. Imagine the sentences as you are reading, your brain will comprehend and remember much better. Don't just read left to right, first page to last page,
    read and imagine while reading. It's the only trick that has been working for me.
    It make take a little more time, but you won't have to re-read everything over and over again

      Your capital letter K places a greater emphasis on what is already in your head. By balancing all three, your curiosity might discover a surprising fact or two...or open one's mind to a life altering insight. The K (knowledge) in a larger context may prove even more useful and rewarding for yourself and others.

      It depends a lot on the way you are reading. I struggled with that same problem you have. Thanks to a french youtuber, what helped me was instead of reading words by words which we are often made to learn in primary school .. you should skip the first 2 or 3 words and set your vision a bit further at line you are reading. don't worry about the first 2 or 3 words your peripheral vision will enable you to see them even if you don't focus on them. In fact your peripheral vision is crucial for reading, since it requiere a lot less effort to read instead of word by word which requiere a lot of focus and in which you may find yourself go back at the begining of a paragraph to try and understand. Also try to read faster because going slow will make it hard to grasp the meaning of any long sentence or paragraph in general. (because reading slow will make it hard to make a connection between words // therefore your brain will have a hard time to connect anything meaningful, in other words you won't get the whole picture of it. also it stress your brain)
      So to resume : skip first 2 or 3 words, and if the sentence is long you can do the same near the end of sentence skip 2 or 3 words too. Train yourself to do that while reading faster and you will easily understand what you are reading. With KWL method it should be even more easier, at least that worked for me. I have no problem finishing books now even shakespeare twelfth night or midsummer night's dream.
      :)

    1. Contextualize what you already know about the subject
    2. Write down what you hope to learn from reading the material
    3. Write down what you learned from step 2 and anything else interesting that stood out

    Speaking of wasted time, here's a tip for content creators on TH-cam: don't waste time in your video explaining to me why I clicked on the video. I know why I clicked on the video because I read the title. The first 3 minutes of this video is wasted. The next minute is laboring an analogy to exercise. You don't actually get to your technique until 5 minutes has passed and I'm fidgeting in my seat. If this was translated into written word, it's the kind of content I would skim over. Material with lots of fluff like this is exactly why people want techniques for better reading comprehension. Their brain is busy filtering out and forgetting useless information and this becomes a habit when done across a span of content. We want more pure content and less bullshit.

      Are you unable to skip ahead? Maybe your version of TH-cam doesn't allow this?

      Most of the audiendce here are foreign students leanrning English, therefore, noone really feels wasting any time as long as that time is spent listening to English. The teacher uses an appropriate lecture format and does the introduction. It feels that you haven't heard that not only reading but also speaking (and practically everything else in this life) has three stages - PRE-WHILE-AFTER. If she skipped the introduction, she would sound unprofessional.

      Or instead of complaining on someone else’s video, do your own TH-cam video - after I started reading your comment I realize it was a complete waste of time & I didn’t finish when I realized it was pointless. Wish I knew before I started reading!!! Guess we are in the same boat!

    • @aasldkfja
      @aasldkfja 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      SoyChai Latte' not complaining. I’m giving feedback. Viewers want useful content. They don’t want their time wasted. The entire reason this video even exists is because the creator understands content is diluted by bullshit that perforates your comprehension. So it’s annoying that their content.. would be diluted with useless narrative.

    What if the book has Spanish in it but you don't know what is happening or you forget what the story is about.

    • @dienekes4364
      @dienekes4364 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd suggest that when you come across a Spanish word or phrase, once you figure out what it means, write it down. That reinforces your understanding and memory of it. If you are prone to forgetting what the story is about, create a document that outlines the story and, as you finish each section (chapter, paragraph, etc.), make a note of how it applies to the story.
      The underlying point is to take notes that reinforce your memory and understanding as you are going through the material.

    Wow! amazing! if we forgot something learned(L) we can back to K or W. it creates connections between multiple nodes in our mind and is less likely to forget what we're learning in the future.

    Hi Emma. Maybe, that's not the right question to ask because I think you've already answered that in the video.
    Still, many of us would not take the trouble to create the three columns for KWL on a sheet of paper and actually fill them out. So, do you feel there's another way of practising the KWL technique other than writing on a piece of paper?
    I know it sounds stupid, but I feel that you're kind and would give me another way to think about it.
    Thank you.
