I went from 5.5 to 7.5 in a week and a half. I give you the tips that helped me: - Practice the readings that you find on TH-cam and have the same format as the IELTS. - Take the time while you solve them. - Don't waste time reading the entire reading and answering later. Look first at question 1 and find the answer in the text, then at question 2, and so on. Most of the questions are in order with the paragraphs, that will give you an idea where the answer is. - Do not waste more than 1 minute and a half in each question, if you do not find the answer, go to the next one because it is very likely that after solving the next question, you will find where the answer to the previous question is located. - The main idea of the paragraph is usually in the first or last sentence. - If you don't know an answer and you don't have time, use chance, there are no points against. - Super important: take the time while you solve various readings. In my case I had to do several exercises to learn to manage my timing and nerves. - During the exam you will be nervous, so it is important that you practice several readings to get used to solving the exam with techniques. In my personal experience I discovered that it was not useful for me to read everything and then answer the questions because I was so nervous that I did not remember what I had read. I tried different ways to solve the readings until I discovered that the third tip I mentioned works best for me.
NEVER plan to read the whole passage! You will be wasting precious time. Try reading first and last sentence of each paragraph to establish content as you might not need all the paragraphs. Also, do NOT spend time writing a summary. The closest you can get to this is by recognising topic sentences and key words. You could also(quickly) think of paraphrases to the key words/ideas. IELTS is all about PARAPHRASING. You also need to practise 'guessing' the meaning of what you think is a key word. Read sentences before and after and use context to guess the meaning. I could go on...... (I am an IELTS teacher with many years experience)
Liz Sochacka please go on Ms.Sochacka, I’m struggling with the whole paragraph headings and true or false questions. It’s hard to get all of the questions right because sometimes intensive reading is required but I cannot manage enough time for that.
I read everything in that reading text before I touch the question, even INTENSIVE READING and I got 9 at reading. Its not about bragging, its about do what suit you best like he said in the video, dont push down other method and promote one you like, you should give them ability to choice what suit them
Liz Sochacka actually, what this dude just explained is what is explained by the British Council teachers, 3rd approach especially. Briefly, it consists of reading the first sentence of each paragraph (BC teachers stress the need to read first paragraph in its entirety), the so called ‘topic sentence’. This will give you a glance of what the paragraph is about, which is really cool because after reading the questions you will already have mapped the text, making the answer easier to be found. Nevertheless, I think ‘summary’ was not exactly the best word to use because it makes you think you have to do a lot. Love from an A1 level Mexican.
Please suggest me tips,, READING is just like a nightmare for me... How can I improve it... Actually m not concentrated with entire paragraphs. Especially problems with sentences matching

Very interesting tips! I would like to propose another strategy which is a mix of the first two mentioned. What do you think about the following way of working: 1. reading the 1st paragraph and look at the questions. Answer all the questions that you are able to address based on 1st paragraph. Then go the second paragraph and proceed in the same way. Thanks to this approach you kill 2 birds with a stone - you know the content very well and can focus on details and you save time by answering questions immediately after reading some portion of text. Does it make sense?
You are a gem, Adam. I got 9 in Reading and 8.5 in Listening after watching your videos. I came here to revisee because I am appearing again for the IELTS next week to improve my speaking and writing scores. Thank you for all the help.
Thank you Adam for all your precious tips and encouragement. Just got my Ielts result yesterday with an overall band score of 8.0 including a 9.0 for Reading. Pls keep on with your good works. Cheerio
I honestly think the best way here, is somewhere between Approach 1, and Approach 3. Let me explain further; in order to spend a proper time on reading and completely comprehending the passage, you should read as many as you could, the more the better, but at the same time, you should save some memory and time by UNDERLYING the important words in the text. That way, you would have read the entire scripture, and you would have answered almost all the questions in one read, so when you get to the questions you would be ready to answer by one look. Although, I gotta say, the first approach is a suicide mission if you don't highlight the important keywords! And, the third approach could surprisingly make you lost along the way, espcially because you wouldn't have much time to re-read more the once. Good luck for all the IELTS students.
Yesterday was the day i took my first ielts mock test. Watched this video only 2 hours prior to my test, without even practicing, i scored 7.0 on my reading section. The third strategy helped me score this much on my first try. I couldn’t be more thankful❤

Adam help me please. The IELTS is always a big challenge to learners. one of those is the question YES, NO, NOT GIVEN. or FALSE, TRUE, NOT GIVEN. I have learned many theories to mitigate the conundrums. Ironically I sometimes make mistakes on such thing. please tell me which statement is TRUE, FALSE, NOT GIVEN. Thanks in advance. - In the passage " They used sailboats to carry tea from China to Britain." Thank you for your dedication Adam I can understand you very clear. I very much enjoy all your lessons it helps me very much. I was afraid about how to spend my time in the reading part, after watch this video, I am pretty sure that I will be fine, however I know that I have to practice many times. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! i have been suffering with the reading section and when I saw the third method I was like "This is it!" Thank you so much you made my day ^^
Your approach 3 inspired me a lot, Thanks. Only the step - "scan for support" took quite a lot time, so I make some change. My approach variation is: (1) read the article name; (2) read the first (if no useful information got then read second sentence) and last sentences to know the topic; (3) scan the remaining part of the paragraph to mark the name of person or place; Those 3 steps took me around 3~6 minutes, (4) read questions, the follow what you teach in this video. This approach is really suitable for me. Thanks!
I feel very calm and optimistic when I see you Mr.Adam . I kindly ask you to wish me luck ... my IELTS exam is tomorrow and I've learned a lot from you , thanks .
I can't thank you enough, this lesson and many others in your channel were really helpful. This lesson helped me select the appropriate strategy and with practice i got 7.5 in reading. Thanks a million.
Reading is always the pain of the ass for me for I am a slow reader. I had been to some cram school for english 5 years ago, and after although I live abroad I still did not practice much about my english. I got 5.5 this year for not getting any preparation. I watched this video before I took another IELTS in one month again, and I got 6 on reading this time! It is very helpful!!
I have been go thew so many reading section. They made it more comolicated. It is really not always a central idea of whole paragraph. The statement flip over and over kind of unpredictable.
In many cases, students are unable to locate the answer even they know which passage, sentence or phrase contains the answer, for they don't understand the complex sentence making, which is always playing tricks with minds of students leading to frustration, tiredness, and anger, and this is the biggest trap of examiner who wants to make the subject bewilder. Once you find out the purpose of exam maker, then it becomes easier to finish the goal with flying colors. So first understand the language tone, nature, and style used in the passages before attempting the IELTS reading - academic version especially. C1 or C2 vocabulary is used in such passages, so one should go through the list of word-power of levels acquired in order to have the sense of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and passages. Knowing the words does not mean that you can comprehend a full fledged sentences replete with the chunks of vocabulary you have already acquired the proficiency. Practice them well in usage of sentences. I hope it helps. Thanks for reading. I got band 8 in IELTS academic. Anyone who needs help may contact me.
Hi you rightly mentioned the terms anger and frustration. Because I am. And I don't understand where should I start from and what. Resulting in fear of failure and extreme exhaustion
what i personally follow, i scan the questions rather passage, once i remember the questions it makes easier for me to go through the exact portion of the passage to have the answer. :)

Hello Adam. Thank you. There is always confusion between the answer “not given” and “ “false” because both of them seem false for me. Looking forward to your clarification!
Hi Adam, am so excited, i wrote IELTS exams today and i applied all your lesson advice that you gave on scaning and skimming method that you have being teaching for so many days, i dont know how to appreciate you people on the kind of help you give to us more especially online teaching. I praid to see you one day and have more fun and learned from you all. thank you
Thanks for the wonderful lesson. Please I want to ask you a question, can you start from the part 3 of the reading test which is the hardest part to the part 1 the easiest?
For giving heading try reading first line till first full stop and last line from last full stop try connecting both, 90% time you will get the HEADING.
Dear Adam, thanks for your rewarding advice. In computer-based IELTS, how can we do the third strategy? we aren't able to underline or mark the key words...

Hi Sir, Could you please let me know where can I find out the complete (full) reading passage of the below The phonautograph eventually evolved into the commercially viable phonograph. Thomas Edison discovered in 1878 a way to record sound onto soft, impressionable material, such as tinfoil, lead, or wax. This could then be played again with an amplifier to reproduce the original sounds. However, it was not until 1887 that this discovery was used to record sound on a disc, thereby creating a medium that could be mass-produced. Emile Berliner discovered that instead of tracing the stylus over a rotating cylinder as had been done until then, the same impressions could be made onto a flat disc. Rather than varying the groove depth, he had the stylus etch the vibrations horizontally inside a groove of constant depth. The resulting disc could then be reproduced by a molding process without destroying the original.
Thank you Adam but you kind of read the whole passage for the 3rd strategy.....and since you had read it before, it must have been easier for you to circle the important points......it seems like a very difficult strategy indeed.
I can read stories or books (familiar topic) pretty fast and I can understand Adam's talking in the speed of 1.5 in IELTS topic and even 2 in general English lessons. But why can't I understand reading passages in IELTS and multiple choice in listening sections? I have been trying for a month, still I can't get over 30 scores in each section. Some of my classmates usually get over 35 and even a perfect score sometimes. And they are ready to take a real test in the coming month. Please, help me.
you are gorgeous. you have helped me a lot of. My English is not very well, but I work to improve my English. It is appear that I know, which approach I have to use (the second). Thank you.
Hi sir. I always complete the three passages within 45 minutes and i get about 32/33 scores. can you sugesst me something to improve my scores more... I'll be very thankful to you if you will help me ☺☺
The third method seems to be challenging, but if practised well could bring fruitful results in the paper-based test, while computer-delivered one needs to be attempted, if by using that particular method, carefully - meaning putting extra effort to use tools for writing...
I went from 5.5 to 7.5 in a week and a half. I just tested myself with the third approach, done the whole 12 Qs in 9 mins,,,,,! Thank you Adam :)
Thank you for your dedication Adam I can understand you very clear. I very much enjoy all your lessons it helps me very much. I was afraid about how to spend my time in the reading part, after watch this video, I am pretty sure that I will be fine, however I know that I have to practice many times.
Thanks again.
Thank you so much!
i have been suffering with the reading section and when I saw the third method I was like "This is it!"
Thank you so much you made my day ^^
Omg!! I'm shocked because your advises are helping dramatically👍👍
Әп, БӘРЕКЕЛДІ ,сен жарадың Адам!! Бағың ашылсын, сенің жолыңды берсін маған !!🤣😂
Your approach 3 inspired me a lot, Thanks.
Only the step - "scan for support" took quite a lot time, so I make some change.
My approach variation is:
(1) read the article name;
(2) read the first (if no useful information got then read second sentence) and last sentences to know the topic;
(3) scan the remaining part of the paragraph to mark the name of person or place;
Those 3 steps took me around 3~6 minutes,
(4) read questions, the follow what you teach in this video.
This approach is really suitable for me.
Thanks!
You use the third tip?
I feel very calm and optimistic when I see you Mr.Adam . I kindly ask you to wish me luck ... my IELTS exam is tomorrow and I've learned a lot from you , thanks .
Thanks Adam for sharing your ideas, very helpful.
Adam, "I will be speaking little faster than usual"
Me already watching this at 2x 😂
I can't thank you enough, this lesson and many others in your channel were really helpful. This lesson helped me select the appropriate strategy and with practice i got 7.5 in reading. Thanks a million.
Reading is always the pain of the ass for me for I am a slow reader. I had been to some cram school for english 5 years ago, and after although I live abroad I still did not practice much about my english. I got 5.5 this year for not getting any preparation. I watched this video before I took another IELTS in one month again, and I got 6 on reading this time! It is very helpful!!
First, a very charismatic teacher - one of the best on TH-cam.
Second, an excellent explanation!
Hi Adam thanks for the videos I got 6.5 band 😀 😘😘

Hi Adam, the 2nd approach helped me a lot..
I got correct answers and also saved a lot of time.
Thank You so much :)
I have been go thew so many reading section. They made it more comolicated. It is really not always a central idea of whole paragraph.
The statement flip over and over kind of unpredictable.
Watching an hour before the test
I used to read all the questions first. But 3rd approach seems very interesting. I will try that approach on my next IELTS.
Thank u so much for the lesson. I hope it'll be very valuable help for many people who are gonna take an IELTS :)
sir what will i do if i face any question which answer is not given.do i have to read through the whole passage?
your videos got me a 7.5
thanks man
Sir pls I have a request to make a video for listening
Thank you very much sir. This is one of the best tutorial that I have ever seen
what i personally follow, i scan the questions rather passage, once i remember the questions it makes easier for me to go through the exact portion of the passage to have the answer. :)
That does work for a few people, but when you focus on the question it is hard to know what you are looking for without first having read the text.
i agree with u

we are fed up seeing adds while watching videos on youtube!!
Thankyou Adam sir, can u tell me how to be confident when we speaking.
Thank you for your experience given to us. Please Sir, I also facing vocabulary & idiomatic expressions questions in comprehension text ?
Hi Sir,
Could you please let me know where can I find out the complete (full) reading passage of the below
The phonautograph eventually evolved into the commercially viable phonograph.
Could any one help me with the tips and tricks related to (t,f&ng)or(y,n&ng) .... Pretty hard fir me to deal with those questions ! Plz do help 🙏
