This class teaches students how to mount .ISO files so that software can be installed from them without having to burn a disk.

In 2020 this video proved to be the most useful I have seen on You Tube. This is a testament to how a quality video can stand the test of time. The pace indicates that Eli knows his subject well and is able to deliver it slowly and confidently. A great example of how it should be done.

I know it's now 2015, but, I've just come across your great video and the WinCDEmu programme. Brilliant. Nero was not burning the Windows10 .iso file. So, I've used WinCDEmu to open up the .iso file and extract the programme files. Many thanks, indeed.

Maybe this was mentioned below, but people might not see that windows 8 has this built in, it has limited file extension supported but it has the ability, that's where i recommend PowerISO

Yes that is a possibility but the speed will now be a concern since its much faster to do it over a storage device that is part of the overall hardware rather than relying on a Ethernet cable, but it can definitely be highly productive in a business environment when it comes to upgrading multiple systems.

I am currently rocking a Timex Sinclair 1000 with 16K Ram Expansion Kit and thinking about upgrading. I am currently looking at the Atari 800 or Commodore 64. I will mostly be using my computer for BASIC programming. As far as gaming goes I am a console player and happy with my Atari 2600. Thanks!

actually, the usb has to be mounted before you can copy the files to it. Not sure about windows, but If you're on linux create a mount point
mkdir /mnt/usbstick
...then mount the usb drive
mount /dev/sdb1 mnt/usbstick
if you're unsure of the drive letter, check with lsblk
...then you go into bios and set it up to boot from the usb.
I have always been a tech savvy person myself, but I found this to be very helpful. Do you have videos that tell you how to make those ISO files into bootable USB drives or Cd/DVDs?
Not really, but I think you may be able to do something like a preboot execution environment that lets you install over a network interface, independantly of storage devices, but it's not software per se
I believe what he is saying is that the Emu program isn't installed on your computer. But the Iso image can be ran on your computer. The emu just makes it easier to be able to access the ISO file without needing a CD or DVD. Hopefully I interpreted right lol.

Hmmm, I see your point. Then that's a good question :-), I don't know how this software could possibly achieve that without re-partitioning your drive, which means you loose all your data.

It's neat software, but I don't think we're quite ready to ditch usb flash drives, especially in personal computing with USB 3.0, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. It's hard to beat. But his vids are all about business solutions so I guess if you're in an enterprise settings and you have to do 100's of systems, there's some benefit in the software. Or we can just wait until fiber-optics really take off

How do you get the mount if you're doing 2 disc to go from one disk to the other to install the disk thanks
The problem with that is that laptops are different from desktops, you can't custom build a laptop because of the way laptops are built.

Yes it can, but this video is about using MISO software, not USB drive/stick.
I've used Imgburn for close to 20 years. It's free and easy.

Burn the iso to a cd or usb and reboot your computer from one of those two drives to do the install.

What is the difference between WINEmu and DAEMON tools lite?
Most guys that download torrents to get games and software use DAEMON tools lite.
Both of these programs are free but i would like to use the easiest version?

I downloaded the TOOL... I have one computer, and it works GREAT! I have several mounted GAMES. I tried doing this on my GF's Laptop, and it will NOT work... help?

Why do you need to mount the .iso file? Can you not just double click on the .iso file itself and have it run as if the physical CD was in the computer?
+Elite An .iso file is just the image of the cd/dvd. Mounting software creates the driver you use to actually interact with the file.

hello I did enjoy your video, the problem is the nero software keeps copying an .iso without interpeting the image installed a new dvd and nero 2014 it still not works now all freebsd is all the drives is FreeBSD 10 if new video on how to use the and install FreeBSD

Windows 8 doesn't need any external programs to mount isos. Just right click.
guys, you can mount ISO files without a program. its a native feature in windows. you do not need a 3rd party program.

So how does this help me actually get data from a CD to a virtual disc? I've got a CD in my external drive F- I click on it and it shows me all the folders on the disc, but no way can I get the entire disc put onto a virtual disc as ISO (or anything else). Any ideas?

I lost CD one of my mac OS. So I havent been able to start fresh for a while. now I think i could potentially download it so I can reformat. Same with my ableton disc. I have the program installed, and the library disc, but no way to reinstall. =)

Things get a bit confusing here. First you say the computer has no cd drive and then you say you can install the image on the computer. You did not say how?. You skipped a few steps.
+Joe Darvish You can download .iso files off the internet. Or if you have another computer WITH an optical drive, you can put in the CD and then copy the .iso file onto a USB.
Okay, lets say i have the windows 8 iso file on my current laptop that is running windows 7 and I decide to use this software to install windows 8 on it. Now during the setup, its asks me if i want to format my C: drive to do a clean install and I say yes. Wont the setup fail because the running software will be gone??????
