Yes you can always make a top down hat smaller. If you know the size circumference you want, the formula is easy: circumference / pi = diameter of crown. So let's say you want a 16 in circumference hat, 16 / 3.14 = 5 in. You would stop making your increasing circle crown when the diameter across the circle is 5in. And then you would continue to the walls section working even in the round. Hope that helps.
Can u use just cotton like peaches and cream? Your material doesn't look to think like the string look that I cant remember the name,but it looks like tape string

The wire is in the last round of the brim. It doesn't touch your head. No it is not uncomfortable. Hope that helps!

@@corneliakrein5260 Looks like to make it floppy and increase the brim, instead of 5 double trebles to form a shell - there are 7 double trebles.
