  • In this video we make some preparations for FLOCKDOWN. A housing order has been put in place in order to try and prevent the spread of bird flu. This means that all poultry need to be housed at all times, however we have come up with a cunning plan to keep our hens on grass over the winter. Fingers crossed it works.

Thanks Mike, I’ve started using Artlist for my music which is a paid service, but the stuff on there is excellent.

Love your videos, what editing software do you use?

Thanks very much. I actually just use iMovie on apple macbook. It’s super simple to use and does a lot of what I need for the time being. Heard good things about da Vinci resolve but it’s a pretty steep learning curve.

How many hens do you run?
Do you get pol or are they ex battery?
Do you keep them to fairly old age?
    How many questions? I know!
I'm after a few more and have seen pol advertised but being this time off year, do you think I'll be waiting until spring for them to lay? They say they're hybrid but from the pictures they look like light Sussex and the others in not sure.
They're in the southeast farm mag. I should probably just ring them but I don't want to be feeding all winter for no return.
I'd rather ex battery personally, but....
Cheers James. Have a goodun yourself.

Hey Robert, running about 180 at the minute.
We always buy POL and tend to keep them for a good few years. The older hens are still producing good egg numbers so don’t see the need to put them. I’ve not long had some POL birds and they have laying well actually. I’d say they are laying about 65% at 20 weeks with no artificial lights, which I don’t think is too bad all things considered.
