"Home" from The Wiz

“The Wiz” debuted on Broadway 46 years ago on January 5, 1975. The show slowly churned its way to seven Tony Award wins, including the coveted Best Musical prize. More importantly than any award, for a generation of Black Americans, this was the first time they saw people who spoke, sung and moved the way they did.
Today, Technical Sgt. Stacey Holliday of the Singing Sergeants sings the finale: “Home.” The Los Angeles Times claimed, “Home” is the tune that has undoubtedly cemented the lasting legacy of “The Wiz.” By 1978 the film adaptation was released starring a who’s who of Black singers and actors that brought the production to a whole new audience. Diana Ross, who plays Dorothy, sings the final number as a call for self-discovery and self-love.
