That's an actual tactic for dropping nuclear bombs. Back in the day they had small nuclear bombs on fighters (nowhere big enough to destroy a city, but they still had a considerable blast radius) and the fighters would: fly straight, when they are over their target they would start climbing at 90°, they would release the bomb and then return to horizontal flight and burn away at mach 2+ ("turn and burn"). They would do that to have more time to escape the blast, since the bomb had to go all the way up and then all the way down, rather than just going down if the fighter would've dive bombed. Keep in mind these fighters didn't have bomb sights, so they had to just eyeball it.

For basic missiles that are already in the game, attach them to a pylon. The default missiles have a small white cube that indicates its attachement point.
