  • Dual and Single antenna quansheng UV-K5 HF Full Band mod version 2. We are going to do both, single and dual antenna, using IPEX connector. It's not hard, instructions are comprehensive, YES LENGTHY, but from you 10 to 20 minutes of your time and basic tools.
    Parts
    ---------
    1. IPEX -- aliexpress.com/item/100500552... or aliexpress.com/item/400018567...
    2. SMA connector, type 1 -- aliexpress.com/item/100500188...
    3. Pigtails, 20cm with IPEX -- aliexpress.com/item/329093544...
Yes, we are going to use all 3. Basically pigtails you only need for cable, nut and washer, we going to solder cable into SMA connector and make it flush, because we can not straight up use pigtail, there is not enough room in there, the center pin is going to interfere with LCD flex cable.
    LOW MELT SOLDER WARNING
    -------------------------------------------------
Just be sure to purchase that low melt which is listing chemical formula. You want to make sure that there is no Cadmium in your low melt. Because cadmium is toxic. Here is good wikipedia article -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose%27...
Where to buy it? Best is in your local electronics supply store. Online, I looked at amazon, and I didn't find anything that lists chemical formula -- I'm sure it's okey, but I wouldn't buy it. On eBay, if you look for "Rose's Metal" and also "Roses Metal", you will get what you need from Kazahstan and Ukraine, though, a bit more expensive than what I would pay. I buy like that much as they selling for $4 in Russia. So it's best to go to your local electronics supply store or places like Farnell, Mouser, Digi-Key, etc. In my city, it's $3.50 for 100 grams in my local electronics supply store. So be mindful of prices and be mindful of chemical formula.

Looking at it more closely, pigtail will not work, the pin will stick right into display flex cable. No big deal, we just going to use different connector. You still need pigtail, so you can cut the cable of off it. In video description I will include everything you need to buy for dual antenna setup, and describe why you need it. So everything is in video description -- parts, tools, consumables, supplies, etc. We are going to do another video on making the hole for 2nd antenna, but for now, in this video you have everything you need to get it going yourself. 👍

You are like the Bob Ross (famous American painting artist) of SMT soldering! A soothing ASMR experience watching you work.

Salut à toi et merci pour ces vidéos très explicites. J’attends aussi avec impatience la version de la carte avec ampli. Hâte de voir tes nouvelles vidéos avec montage de la nouvelle carte et la double antenne. Bonne continuation. 73’s👍

I just received the version with the preamp today and was concerned as it was a bit bent up. Thanks for bringing attention to that audio issue as I’ll inspect the FPC closely now. Cheers, lots of good rework techniques in your videos. Very practical 👍

Today is celebration for me, v2 with preamp finally cleared customs and is on its way to me! Look, once you install it, there is huston we have a problem. CEC firmware is crap. It is based on egzumer, which is not bad I guess, but spectrum was cut to make way for SSB, so it's basic stuff. No hope with CEC. So you have a choice to make. I made mine. I went with Reborn. Reborn is work in progress, it has a lot of things and supports Si4732, but it does not have CTSS, so you can not open repeater with it. But hopefully it will be upgraded soon. I'm buying second radio, with Si4732 I will run Reborn, and the other radio will have fully functional Punktracker firmware.

@@codernov I’ve been messing around with Open GD-77, now after seeing the band scanner now I’m wondering if the Quansheng custom firmwares are based on that? 🤔 STM32 based.

Another awesome video Alex!! I like the detailed instruction, very easy to follow along. Quick question... Why add two antennas?

So that you leave the stock choke in place and don't mess with it, that way your Si4732 SDR mod don't mess with your stock receiver and transmitter.

Version 10,000!! We have no clue which versions are these. There was the original LUSYA, so this came next, so let's call it version 2. Who cares.. Once it arrives I will do comparison and install. It cleared customs, so it should be here soon. Shipping time is really messed up with this one.

Why do you insist on so much heat from your iron on such fragile components? You had it correct the first seconds, but you insisted on going at it for some 15 seconds. It makes me quiver watching you. But your information is very good, and I follow this info.

I wouldn't care with iron temperature, for as long as solder on ground goes molten. I do care about hot air temperature though, because with that, things can get brown and crusty. Iron temperature is more to save my tips, usually 350, sometimes 390. My tips are WQ, they are hard to get and they don't make cheap copies like T2 tips.
