It took me years to realize how much my Schipperke copies human behavior. When I call her I pat my leg. To which she usually pats the ground. I have to call her a couple times before she comes to me and she keeps patting the ground. I realized that what she’s doing is calling me over saying “no you come here”.
We are on our 6th & 7th Schipperkee. First was Booger a male, rest are girls. Super loyal, protective, hard headed, healthy, little lovers. Booger lived to 20, the girl's 13-17 years old as pets, not breeding them. No better companionship.😜
We are looking for our second Schipperke. So incredibly intelligent and fun. We had no complaints about our first little girl and we miss her terribly.
Hello~ I love this video, thanks for posting this! my Schipperke~ Bosco~ just passed away recently....we were together for almost 20 years when he died...and he and I grew old together.
So smart but also so stubborn! I’ve had 2 and I swear you can see the wheels turning in their head as they think “I know what you want me to do, but I say No!” Mine is 14 years old now and he’s still energetic, curious, and protective. A very loyal companion who never leaves my side.
I fell in love with them at first sight. My Schips have gotten me involved in activities like no other breed of dog before them has. While I have thought about adding other breeds to my home, I would not be without a Schip as well.
In Belgium it does bear the name of Shepherd of LOUVAIN or the little captain, it is a very old breed of dog we are talking about 1600 at least the writings, which is Unhappy he had the greatness of the Shepherd Malinois, the breeders made a dwarf, he kept his character of average dog he is not afraid of anyone, for me he is a miniature malian shepherd , it is originally the Groenendael, the black color is the same, its head is similar, Breeders tries to restore it to its original size, it is not complicated but its demand for years, you take the largest puppies of litters then you form a couple "of course no link of patent) with in vitro fertilization this is much faster , Schipperke with his former size would be a famous opponent for the Malinois Shepherd
my friends gived me my first shipperkee and i am courius, that people want also another dogs, because shipperkee are the best choice of all type of dogs. this dog are clean, smart, with very nice character.
My schipperke (Betty) is 15 years old and is still very fit and lively! She regularly leaps over streams and plays with me daily. She is the most emotionally intelligent and loving dogs I have known. Interestingly, I've only heard her bark a handful of times!! She often lets out a high pitched groan under her breath as if she's trying to tell me something (usually while staring). She's friendly towards every human I've seen her meet, but she's not usually interested in other dogs.
I recently lost my 16 1/2 year old Schipperke Lily. She was a wonderful dog and remained very active until the last few months of her life. My Lily was the same as your Betty -she never met a person she did not become best friends with (especially if they had some treats or some petting for her) but not very much interest in other dogs!
@@phyllisf8656 Aww Phyllis I'm sorry to hear that Lily passed away. But it's lovely that she lived a long happy life and that she was active for so long too. I'm sure you'll never forget her xx
Our #6 is also a Lily! Acts just like your 3 yr Lily. Sits beside you, paws you for attention or nose nudging for treats. Their favorite is riding in the Suburban with the 2nd window 1/2 down & heads into the wind, then breakfast... Not spoiled much 😜

I've had two schipperkes and I absolutely love them I live in Texas and I've never met anyone else who owned one and it's extremely hard to find a reputable breeder
The best dog I ever had she was 14 in half she passed away Tuesday morning. I had her since I was 10 she such fun loving furry baby with a personality that would never forget. She was my best friend 💔💔
Rob, it's terrible when we lose our babies. I hope you have found it in your heart to get another Schipperke from one of the Schipperke rescue societies.
I have a small mixed breed dog that I've had for 14 years and only yesterday found out he was a schipperke cause I took him to a dog park and we found another Schipperke that looked so much like mine.
I am dedicated to Schipperkee’s I have had two full time companions both males, if they live three years they usually turn out to be your best friend. (if they aren’t killed by their owners before they reach three) I see pictures of them as puppies and they are trying to figure out how they can manipulate the situation to get what they want to put in their bellies.
I rent a room. The owner has a Schipperke and Pittie. The Pittie girl has to put him in his place cause he is a wild child. twice they escaped on me and he mysteriously became the leader of the escape. He's such a smart brat, I love him.
we have had many Schipperkees and what we loved best about them besides their beauty was how deep they love you, how curious and independent and intelligent, and that they will do anything for you if you ask with love. if you try to discipline them or get mad, they will go away to the farthest corner of the yard and not come near you. they're pretty smart right? ❤️
My Bear is my best buddy. He’s very active and keeps me going! I have Fibromyalgia so keeping up and busy is a blessing. He’s so sweet, a real mamas baby. There aren’t many in Oklahoma so I’m always asked what kind of breed he is which is okay. He has to be brushed every day or there will be black hair everywhere. I don’t ever have him trimmed and wonder if I should but I love his mane and would hate it if a groomer ever trimmed it. He was hard to potty train and still goes behind my back. He’s very protective of me
I've had A Schipperke since he was only 6 months old. Yes they are very temperamental. They believe they are a large breed dog and they make great watch dogs. they absolutely love children. He was easy to house break and learned basic tricks ( Sit, lay, shake, stay, and speak) very easily. this breed does need to be walked daily and loves to play. i would definitely crate train this breed if you have to leave the dog unattended for a long time. the dog I had, as soon as he achieved adulthood he did calm down a little, that was after i had him neutered. They do have a normal life span for a pure bread dog of 11-15 years.
Hello We have had one and now we have our second one, they are great little dogs however bella is two half years old and you can not house break her. any tips we just love skipper's
cat like in looks and attitude. there are about 5 (so cute) in Portland OR, hard to find on the west coast of usa. so i have only met them in local park. so cute and happy, dont really like dogs, but if i could have a dog, schipperke would be one i look for.
This breed looks so mischievous! Like they make a mess when you aren’t home and then go- It wasn’t me, I didn’t do it! But there’s no more pets in the house! 😆🤣😂
So sorry. I too have allergies to most breeds but find my schips do not cause me problems. When I first met one and he immediately stole my heart the first thing I did, after establishing he was friendly lol, was to bury my face in his fur and sniff deeply. I figured it was as good a test as any. No odor! No sneezing even hours later! No itching. I was in heaven. Took me about a year to find one. If they were a mix I could definitely have problems depending on the other breed because some i am very sensitive to. I am sorry your allergies keep you from enjoying these wonderful babies.
Everything you said was true exactly how my baby was his name was tego but My skipper was murdered Wednesday night and looking into purchasing one but they’re so hard to get in California .
just got the DNA test for ours, waiting for results. at first we thought they may be finnish spitz mixes due to the color (red) but our male look so much like a red schipperke.
actually it is very true, and yes only in belgian do you find tails on, or some one that is not concerned about meeting akc requirements in regards to dog breed
Is the Schipperke your favourite dog breed?

I love how intelligent they are. Also mine seems very intuitive.

That’s funny I had to drive to Tulsa to buy my last Schipperkee he lasted me another 15 years I need another.
Schips don't need a trim, just a brush. I'm using nail grinder for their toenails.

Despite being a spitz breed and not a hound, they are known for being rat hounds. As in dogs that hound rats.
