    I just bought a fat bike this winter. The road to tire friction is much higher than a mountain bike, so be prepared to work your ass off. Even on a flat surface, no snow I found myself gasping for air just riding a short distant. I am over 50, ( which may be part of the problem) a health enthusiast so I like challenges. I normally ride my mountain bike to work four miles daily; no problem. With the fat bike I have to ride and occasionally walk part of the way to relive the lactic acid in my legs. I enjoy the benefit of a stronger, healthier body so I will continue to ride and see if I can make it all the way to work without walking.

    Sorry this may be a stupid question but: Can you puncture on a fat bike and if so is it the same method to stick a new tube in?

    • @samwayne9000
      @samwayne9000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible but very hard to do so because of thickness and you're weight being rather not so much of an factor as compared to normal bikes tyres

    • @OldDirtGuy
      @OldDirtGuy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on the tire. The 45NRTH Escalator comes in a 180TPI casing that punctures fairly easily. They are better for snow use only IMO. I got a puncture the size of my index finger in one. When I went tubeless with a 120TPI Hüsker Dü set. I got small punctures so often that I gave up on the idea. Cleaning sealant off of your bike over and over again will do that for you. I think the tube helps the light casing tire resist punctures. I'll use a heavier casing tire next time I go tubeless.
      In answer to the caped crusader. Fat bike tires are easy to pop a tube into. You'll be pumping for a bit longer however. You'll make it home without noticing with a small puncture, only to find that your tire is flat the next day.

    • @heyitsdarknessyouroldfrien3396
      @heyitsdarknessyouroldfrien3396 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more of the tire width.
      My rims can take 3.0-4.0 width but the width of the rim itself isn't 4.0., is slimmer.
      That tire looks 4.0 in the vid.

    • @simonm1447
      @simonm1447 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the tire with. mine has 26 x 4,7, which would be 11,9 cm, and the true width of the tire inflated on the rim is around 11 cm.

    • @skibikeride2000
      @skibikeride2000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you put your foot on the pedal and rotate the crank so the pedal is at the bottom of the rotation and you sit on the seat your leg should be bent just a little bit at the knee without needing to rock your hips. If your doing downhill I would advise dropping the seat a little bit. Also dropper post don't make it so you don't need to set the seat up properly. You set the seat at the same height and being able to drop the seat allows you more range of motion when your going downhill

      You get carbon ones (expensive), alloy ones, but also steel frames and exotic titanium ones. The steel ones are usually relatively heavy (20 kg +), alloy bikes are around 15 kg. With carbon you can achieve 13 kg.

  • @RossWalline
    @RossWalline 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not hugely interested in fat bikes, as they seem too far extreme, i.e., overly specialized for snow and sand. When I look at the 27.5 + tire though, it seems much more general while maintaining some of the advantages of both a standard mountain bike tire and a fat bike tire. It's not to say that a fat bike isn't fun, I'm sure they are, but having a super specialized sand/snow bike isn't that useful most of the time; I could use it on a nice day on a regular trail, but I've got a 29er for that.

      +Ross M Walline Hey Ross, your right, I ride on long Island were there is a lot of sand so the fat bike make sense but I've been wondering about 27.5 + lately. I do LOVE my fat bike though just looking for some better acceleration with that added confidence of the wider tire...

    I've been browsing through a lot of mountain bike videos from just random clicks. I've noticed an extremely high percentage of European bike enthusiast. Just an observation.

    Can I put fat tires on a regular mountain bike?

      No, because the frame is not wide enough. Maybe you can mount wider MTB tires likeones with 2,8 inch width (a intermediate tire between narrower MTB and fat bike tires), but not 4 or 5 inch wide ones.

    This may be a stupid question, but can you just put a fat bike's tires onto a normal hardtail and use it on snow and stuff a fat bike is made for? Because like you said, fat bikes are mainly just the tires that give them their difference.

      The tyres are wider, you'd need wider bottom bracket, front and rear forks, you'd need a new frame basically!

    wtf you need to push like 15 times more rolling resistance over a 25mm tyre

    I love my Fat Bike
    In my opinion
    Fat Bikes are a more modern design for the Big bodies that people have in modern times

      +Cee Neiton Most fat bikes run tubeless set ups.

      Cee Neiton Pretty much the same as how you'd do it on any other bikes. Tire levers and all, only diff is the wider rims and bigger tires of course.. A friend of mine still uses inner tubes for his Canyon fatbike.
