My grandfather served in this war in the Assam region. He was an engineer, and while the Chinese were close to Tezpur, he and a soldier laid a communication line through a forest leading towards Arunachal. He died before I was born otherwise I would have asked him to relate all his experiences.
His brother remembers some things but he is losing his memories.

      Now lemme explain it
Simla convention had been signed between the British India and Tibbet in 1914, China had no locus standi over any agreements which were being signed between Britsh India and the independent state of Tibet,
China had also occupied Kashmir lands in the year 1963,from Pakistan without consulting Indians according to an agreement, since India had never recognised Pakistan's control over the parts of Kashmir, by doing this China voilated the Indian intergrity over Kashmir, if China could dare to provoke India by illegally occupying Kashmir lands from Pakistan than India would surely retaliate, China initially hadissues over the MacMohan line but China never had any issue in the Jhonson line, this issue was created just after when India hsd supported Tibet and Dalai Lama against China, China had used and is still using border issues as a political tool against it's agenda, India's claims over the macmohan line are quite valid as well,
It was,China had voilated the panchsheel agreemnet between India and China,
China had voilated the Tibbetan uprising of 1959
China had compeled India to launch a forward policy against them,
If it wasn't for China's obsession with the MacMohan line and later wiyh Jhonson line as wlel, then there would have been no war

According to the memories of some veterans, they were stationed near the railway line of Tespur. After a while, the Chinese army received a message from Beijing. The order required them all to retreat and reach the stop line. During this period, the Chinese army did not suffer any pursuit.

The creation of India's borders was complex and led to major issues that persist to this day. Sir Henry McMahon, on the British side, drew the McMahon Line, which is supposed to separate India from China. However, this line is not recognized by China, yet India uses it to claim territories that are under dispute. Moreover, when India and Pakistan were divided in 1947, the borders were hastily drawn by Sir Cyril Radcliffe, which led to further conflicts, especially over the region of Kashmir. The actions of these individuals during the British colonial period have repercussions even today. It's crucial to remember our history and seek peaceful and fair solutions to these territorial disputes.

      @cecaloather8701 ปีที่แล้ว +218

I will go further. If you call your resolution to the border issue a "Forward Policy", you are the aggressor, full stop.
The reason why there is a border issue is due to the attempted expansion of the British Raj into Tibet and Xinjiang. Of course, many are under the impression that it was somehow the Chinese engaging in expansion at the area when the reverse is true.
Another reason is that the Indian Republic for some reason wanted to inherit that colonial policy. India is obviously the aggressor here because it called its border policy the "Forward Policy"! Just push the borders further forward, be half hearted in resolving things peacefully and expect the Chinese not to react.
As seen from the clashes at 2020, India has learnt nothing and wants to continue from Nehru's mistakes.

My state of Arunachal Pradesh was one of the main battlefields of this war, Indian army was beaten because many troops that came here were from the plains unused to mountain terrain and low oxygen at heights, bad logistics meant they were ill equipped for harsh temperatures and low on food/ammo. The chinese ususally bypassed strong positions and cut off the supply lines regulary out maneuvering Indian positions. Our soldiers fought valiantly with many stories of indivdual last stands against overwhelming odds but ultimately were beaten . Our leadership(both civilian and military) severly underestimated the chinese who had much experience fighting in mountains with veteran troops from Korean conflict.

China demonstrated its military might, compelling India to modernize its armed forces, which in turn enabled India to successfully counter Pakistan's misadventures in 1965 and ultimately led to the events of 1971.

I think this video favoured Indian viewers more coz it doesn't cover CCP's warning to "withdraw troops or bear all consequences", which was the most serious diplomatic statement already. The most important incident- Zhou Enlai's visit to India in 1960, which is now considered the turning point and eventually resulted in war 1962, is not mentioned. What Zhou said in India is thoroughly recorded and interpreted in English can be found online. Another person worth mentioning is India's Defence Minister V.K. Krishna Menon at that time. Menon's meetings with China's foreign minister Chen Yi and Zhou Enlai failed to reach its purpose to reach peace and ease tension. Ironically, he was the person worsen the situation and led India unprepared for war as India's Defence Minister. Before the attack, China was trying all its means to address the serious consequences and Zhou's visit was last hope to use diplomatic means to solve the tension. China was very surprised that India wasn't very well prepared for military conflicts during the attack. I hope both sides learn history as lesson and try their best to avoid wars to come.

Krishna Menon was the reason India was forbade to prepare, Nehru and Krishna Menon both considered Xàina to be an ally as a fellow Soviet Sympathisers in the east, both of them though weren't cómmunísts exactly but they did despise càpitàlism and nations that accepted capitalis ideas,
with no history of any conflict between both the ancient civilizations who had been welcoming traders from either sides since ancient times Nehru never actually saw a wàr coming, furthermore Mao Zedong's primary intention for waging a wàr(which btw it wasn't, it was just a blitzkrieg on Aksai chín with ridiculously large force of 80K soldiers against a scattered 20K across the border) was to tarnish Nehru and consequently India's image on global scale as a major geopolitical player which they were quite successful at after the wàr
And warning to face consequences doesn't justify the attack on another democracy, especially when it's just not us alleging Xaìnese to have expansionist imperialist motive, nobody wants a wàr but actually executing such feel good ideas like showering flowers and exchanging sweets with those who consistently encroach on yóur land is pretty hard to do when yóu don't live there

Both sides made diplomatic threats and statements. The border differences were made during British occupation, while China had been having regimes change. Thus, no written documents and formal agreement were made. I don't think it is acceptable to invite some (Tibet, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Taiwan etc) representatives to form an agreement and inform another domestic regime/government that the border has been re-arranged. Like Ladakh and South Tibet (Arunachal Pradesh), Aksai Chin is traditional Tibetan territory and is part of China. But in 1865, just after the Second Opium War and the Taiping Rebellion, China was extremely weak, and the British colonist took advantage of the situation to further their invasion into Tibet. W.H. Johnson, an official of the British Survey of India, arbitrarily drew the "Johnson Line". It incorporated nearly 30,000 square kilometers of land, including Aksai Chin, into British India, turning Aksai Chin into British Indian Kashmir. The British authorities did not even notify the Chinese government of this unilateral demarcation, let alone request recognition. However, there had never been any signs of Indian occupation or symbol of sovereignty in Aksai Chin. In Nehru's own words, it was a barren and desolate land, "not even a blade of grass could grow." On the other hand, China resumed its control over the area since the founding of the PRC. When it started building roads connecting Xinjiang and Tibet in the 1950s and continued until the end, India was not even aware of it. From any perspective Aksai Chin has never been a part of India.

A squad of 3 Chinese soldiers charged 8 km behind Indian lines and took down 2 artillery positions guarded by 1st and 2nd Sikh battalion of the Indian elite 4th Infantry Division - an enemy dozens time their number.
In the after-action report, the squad leader famously commented on thr Sikh’s bravery: “敌人非但不投降,还胆敢向我还击” (Instead of surrendering on sight, the enemy actually dared to shoot back).

When China destroyed the main force of India in the border area and the subsequent reinforcement, China declared the end of actions and retreated. China did the same thing in the border war with Vietnam. The West media often demonize China and bad-mouth the Chinese military. The biggest mistake India made was that they believed the West propaganda about China. China only stationed one field army in the entire Tibet. Only the border defense troops were involved in the fight. The lesson is: Underestimating China can be both deadly and humiliating.

Secondly, you lack basic historical education about this whole war.
The USSR helped no one,not even China, other than supplying them alotta weapons before the 1962 War happened due to which China was morbidly stronger and modernised in terms of Millitary as compared to India. Indian soldiers still used Lee Enfields and WW2 Era weaponary which were left as a founding junction for the Indian army by the British Empire. Even in 1965 War,India only had Lend Lease WW2 British Centurion tanks while Pakistan had all new American Patton tanks in mass production along with modern American weapons for their service. While all this was happening,India was still but slowly joining ties with USSR. That's why after 1969 Sino-Soviet Spilit,USSR replaced China with India as one of it's key allies and they gave us alot of modern weapons and equipment and hell lotta technology. They also gave us money which we thankfully invested in Economic and overall development of India rather than the army. This being the key reason for the Indian Army having old equipment for a long time while India still being a grand economy.
Now,about atheists, don't bring and divert topics through that. It wasn't the "Chinese Atheists"that magically made the PLA win the war. It were the Wild Wartime leadership of Mao which he was explicitly good at since he was fighting in the Chinese warlord era since the 1920's

I wish I could talk to him but I was too young, he passed away in 2004.
I agree that even if bad decisions were made by the government, we’ll make sure that the foreign enemies will pay a heavy price, for us Sikhs for example we had 20 men defending Bum La Pass against hundreds of soldiers. While the Chinese won, they payed the price of losing hundreds of men against our 20 defenders.

Fun fact: China proposed to India multiple times to settle their disputes over South Tibet and Ladakh at the International Court of Justice. But India refused (actually, India never replied). Many experts believe the reason is simple, India doesn't have a case to defend their claims to Ladakh and South Tibet. This is all due to the fact that though British India used the McMahon Line as the de facto border between British India and China, the British Colonial Office in London never recognised the legitimacy of the McMahon Line signed between British India and Tibet, which they viewed as part of China

During the Korean War in 1951, the Chinese defeated the 17-nation coalition forces led by the United States and wiped out 250,000 Americans and 60,000 coalition forces from various countries. China lost more than 300,000 people. This is recorded in the history of war. At that time, it directly entered today's Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Having beaten Vietnam into Hanoi in 1979, India need not feel depressed.

In 1979, China only managed to capture Lang Son, which was about 23 km from Chinese border and 150 km from Hanoi, after 2 weeks of combat against local militia.
During the whole 2 weeks campaign, China estimated that it had lost 10% of armour vehicles (Reality was much worse)

    Some inaccuracies in this vid:
    - 1914 Shimla Convention was a tri-party meeting between Britain, China and Tibet. British recognized Chinese rule over Tibet.
    - Border agreement wasn't ratified at Shimla, China refused to sign off and British didn't pursue further claim. Neither did British claim western sector Aksai Chin (Where Chinese built highway)
    - 40yrs later in 1951, newly independent India sent troops to occupy McMahon Line, and went beyond the line. India wanted to carve out Tibet as a buffer state, supported Tibetan revolt. India gave Jenkhentsisum a military base in Kalimpong, W. Bengal.
Dispute is entirely India's own doing.

There's a small mistake in the animation, the Indian Army didn't have automatic small arms other than the light machine guns and a sprinkling of Thompson submachine guns and Sten guns during the war. One of the reasons why the Indian forward posts were overrun was that Indian soldiers had to fight Chinese soldiers wielding AK47 with Lee Enfield bolt action rifles. It was only in the aftermath of the war that the Indian govt replaced bolt action rifles with the British SLR, a license made FN FAL that is shown in the animation.

6:30-7:00 - this video turned into Indian propaganda. The narrator explains that Indian troops were authorized to invade territory which the Chinese considered their own, to open fire at their own discretion, and to attack Chinese bases and areas where they were dug in. But...during this attempted invasion, they were also certain that there would be no war and so did not prepare for one.
If you want a third-party analysis of this conflict, go read Henry Kissinger's book "On China", where he presents what happened from a U.S. perspective, which interestingly, perfectly matches the Chinese narrative of an aggressive India refusing all attempts at negotiation, all while attempting to annex all territory they claimed militarily. Then they lost horribly and you get the nonsense narratives, such as this one just presented.

In 2020, China fell into a huge nationwide epidemic. India, which claims to be peaceful, once again invaded China's borders. At that time, China was undergoing a nationwide epidemic prevention and closure. Breaking faith and invading China when China was in trouble, India once again stabbed the knife from the back.

India never fought any war against china to win aksai chin rather it was part of India for a long period of time, but china did fight a war in 1962 against a nation , which respected them earlier on , which had trust on them and which was coming out of a 200 years of colonial rule . You took advantage of India position and won that land. You fought that war to harm India. Why ? I’ll tell you.
1950-60 : china annexed tibet completely , and 14th newly enthroned Dalai lama came to india in exile on 31 march 1959 . He lived in Dharamshala.
Seeing that India helped a monk(who for china was just a rival) , they felt bitterness from this action . As they have got a big piece of land by removing some monks who never fought a battle. So in 1962 they reached Aksai chin and fought Indian soldiers and won . They grab the land of 37,244 square kilometers.
Neither US nor Russia could help India as they were busy in their own dilemma CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS . Cuban missile crisis started on 16 October 1962. china attacked India 20th October 1962. It was a good timing or coincidence , I don’t know but it did help you a lot.
There is a huge history behind china annexing the Tibet , but due to that when a monk asked for help from India . India didn’t say no to them , they took them , provided them with everything . china didn’t like that , they tried to harm India and was successful .
Aksai chin belongs to India : chin doesnt mean china it means pass in sanskrit & aksai comes from either akshay or akash . because there is no word aksai in chinese , turkish , latin , greek or any of other language . in hindi it comes close to akash which turn to “ path to sky “.
Today , china is keeping aksai chin abut time has no friends , this area will get to the rightful owners , if the rightful owners maintain their morality and wait for the right time. india is not in position to show red eye to china who has been a bully to us as of now. But time will say forsure. Karma will hit back and india will take aksai chin one day.
Till then we do accept india is weaker as compared to china. Afterall not every power is United States who would respect the sovereignty of it's neighbor who're not as strong as them like US had for it's neighbor Canada and Mexico. I wish China was a mature power instead of being so much expansionist.

@@Judah_889 If India did not invade China, why is India's strategy called forward strategy instead of defensive strategy or self-defense strategy? In fact, India is encroaching on Chinese territory step by step. Just like the name of this strategy, it is constantly advancing to build military bases on Chinese soil. That's why China is fighting back. China does not understand why India, which claims to be a friend, wants to build a military base on Chinese soil. Helping a slave owner who used human bones as a magic weapon, is that the reason for India to invade China when there is famine and plague in China? Maybe the next time the ethnic minorities in northeast India are bullied by Hindu nationalists, China should also help these people and their provinces to secede from India. India invaded China, and India failed to invade China, but was counterattacked by China, and China took back the territory invaded by India. This does not mean that India is right, weak does not mean right, failure does not mean right. India has always claimed that the Chinese army has no combat experience, while the Indian army has combat experience. Facts have proved that China loves peace and has not had a war for a long time, while India continues to engage in wars. Like America, it is an evil warmonger. The rich war experience of the Indian army further proves the evil nature of India.

@@Judah_889For those who want to educate themselves as to what actually caused the Sino-Indian conflict I highly recommend podcasts on TH-cam featuring Mr. Avtar Singh Bhasin, an Indian historian and scholar and one of the podcasts has a title called " India’s stand on China border irrational but Nehru’s handling was irresponsible" Wish the Indian govt could make public the Henderson Brooks - Bhagat Report which should help to end those wishful thinking of her citizens.
