      Now lemme explain it
Simla convention had been signed between the British India and Tibbet in 1914, China had no locus standi over any agreements which were being signed between Britsh India and the independent state of Tibet,
China had also occupied Kashmir lands in the year 1963,from Pakistan without consulting Indians according to an agreement, since India had never recognised Pakistan's control over the parts of Kashmir, by doing this China voilated the Indian intergrity over Kashmir, if China could dare to provoke India by illegally occupying Kashmir lands from Pakistan than India would surely retaliate, China initially hadissues over the MacMohan line but China never had any issue in the Jhonson line, this issue was created just after when India hsd supported Tibet and Dalai Lama against China, China had used and is still using border issues as a political tool against it's agenda, India's claims over the macmohan line are quite valid as well,
It was,China had voilated the panchsheel agreemnet between India and China,
China had voilated the Tibbetan uprising of 1959
China had compeled India to launch a forward policy against them,
If it wasn't for China's obsession with the MacMohan line and later wiyh Jhonson line as wlel, then there would have been no war

The farthest Chinese army attack on the eastern front of the Sino-Indian border reached the outskirts of Tespur, but did not enter the city. According to the memories of some veterans, they were stationed near the railway line of Tespur. After a while, the Chinese army received a message from Beijing. The order required them all to retreat and reach the stop line. During this period, the Chinese army did not suffer any pursuit.

The creation of India's borders was complex and led to major issues that persist to this day. Sir Henry McMahon, on the British side, drew the McMahon Line, which is supposed to separate India from China. However, this line is not recognized by China, yet India uses it to claim territories that are under dispute. Moreover, when India and Pakistan were divided in 1947, the borders were hastily drawn by Sir Cyril Radcliffe, which led to further conflicts, especially over the region of Kashmir. The actions of these individuals during the British colonial period have repercussions even today. It's crucial to remember our history and seek peaceful and fair solutions to these territorial disputes.

I will go further. If you call your resolution to the border issue a "Forward Policy", you are the aggressor, full stop.
The reason why there is a border issue is due to the attempted expansion of the British Raj into Tibet and Xinjiang. Of course, many are under the impression that it was somehow the Chinese engaging in expansion at the area when the reverse is true.
Another reason is that the Indian Republic for some reason wanted to inherit that colonial policy. India is obviously the aggressor here because it called its border policy the "Forward Policy"! Just push the borders further forward, be half hearted in resolving things peacefully and expect the Chinese not to react.
As seen from the clashes at 2020, India has learnt nothing and wants to continue from Nehru's mistakes.

My state of Arunachal Pradesh was one of the main battlefields of this war, Indian army was beaten because many troops that came here were from the plains unused to mountain terrain and low oxygen at heights, bad logistics meant they were ill equipped for harsh temperatures and low on food/ammo. The chinese ususally bypassed strong positions and cut off the supply lines regulary out maneuvering Indian positions. Our soldiers fought valiantly with many stories of indivdual last stands against overwhelming odds but ultimately were beaten . Chinese and Indians engaged in warfare reminiscent of ancient civilizations, with a strong emphasis on honor and respect for prisoners of war on both sides. This stands in stark contrast to the actions of Jihadists, Japanese, and Western imperialists.
China demonstrated its military might, compelling India to modernize its armed forces, which in turn enabled India to successfully counter Pakistan's misadventures in 1965 and ultimately led to the events of 1971.

I think this video favoured Indian viewers more coz it doesn't cover CCP's warning to "withdraw troops or bear all consequences", which was the most serious diplomatic statement already. The most important incident- Zhou Enlai's visit to India in 1960, which is now considered the turning point and eventually resulted in war 1962, is not mentioned. What Zhou said in India is thoroughly recorded and interpreted in English can be found online. Another person worth mentioning is India's Defence Minister V.K. Krishna Menon at that time. Menon's meetings with China's foreign minister Chen Yi and Zhou Enlai failed to reach its purpose to reach peace and ease tension. Ironically, he was the person worsen the situation and led India unprepared for war as India's Defence Minister. Before the attack, China was trying all its means to address the serious consequences and Zhou's visit was last hope to use diplomatic means to solve the tension. China was very surprised that India wasn't very well prepared for military conflicts during the attack. I hope both sides learn history as lesson and try their best to avoid wars to come.

    • @adrianbelko7683

Krishna Menon was the reason India was forbade to prepare, Nehru and Krishna Menon both considered Xàina to be an ally as a fellow Soviet Sympathisers in the east, both of them though weren't cómmunísts exactly but they did despise càpitàlism and nations that accepted capitalis ideas,
with no history of any conflict between both the ancient civilizations who had been welcoming traders from either sides since ancient times Nehru never actually saw a wàr coming, furthermore Mao Zedong's primary intention for waging a wàr(which btw it wasn't, it was just a blitzkrieg on Aksai chín with ridiculously large force of 80K soldiers against a scattered 20K across the border) was to tarnish Nehru and consequently India's image on global scale as a major geopolitical player which they were quite successful at after the wàr
And warning to face consequences doesn't justify the attack on another democracy, especially when it's just not us alleging Xaìnese to have expansionist imperialist motive, nobody wants a wàr but actually executing such feel good ideas like showering flowers and exchanging sweets with those who consistently encroach on yóur land is pretty hard to do when yóu don't live there

Both sides made diplomatic threats and statements. The border differences were made during British occupation, while China had been having regimes change. Thus, no written documents and formal agreement were made. I don't think it is acceptable to invite some (Tibet, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Taiwan etc) representatives to form an agreement and inform another domestic regime/government that the border has been re-arranged. A squad of 3 Chinese soldiers charged 8 km behind Indian lines and took down 2 artillery positions guarded by 1st and 2nd Sikh battalion of the Indian elite 4th Infantry Division - an enemy dozens time their number.
In the after-action report, the squad leader famously commented on thr Sikh’s bravery: “敌人非但不投降,还胆敢向我还击” (Instead of surrendering on sight, the enemy actually dared to shoot back).

The USSR helped no one,not even China, other than supplying them alotta weapons before the 1962 War happened due to which China was morbidly stronger and modernised in terms of Millitary as compared to India. Indian soldiers still used Lee Enfields and WW2 Era weaponary which were left as a founding junction for the Indian army by the British Empire. Even in 1965 War,India only had Lend Lease WW2 British Centurion tanks while Pakistan had all new American Patton tanks in mass production along with modern American weapons for their service. While all this was happening,India was still but slowly joining ties with USSR. That's why after 1969 Sino-Soviet Spilit,USSR replaced China with India as one of it's key allies and they gave us alot of modern weapons and equipment and hell lotta technology. They also gave us money which we thankfully invested in Economic and overall development of India rather than the army. India should not claim these lands if it think itself as a country of the indian nation, as Tiebetan is not Indian and do not believe Hinduism. If india think it is a successor to british india, it also should hold a cautious attitude towards these lands as no agreement reached by Britain and previous Chinese government. This war was not a war of conquest. It was designed to teach India a lesson. When China destroyed the main force of India in the border area and the subsequent reinforcement, China declared the end of actions and retreated. China did the same thing in the border war with Vietnam. The West media often demonize China and bad-mouth the Chinese military. The biggest mistake India made was that they believed the West propaganda about China. China only stationed one field army in the entire Tibet. Only the border defense troops were involved in the fight. The lesson is: Underestimating China can be both deadly and humiliating.

@user-mm7zi4ue7d not long ago, a survey in India found that over 67% of Indians believed that they could win a border war against China. How could they possibly reach this conclusion were not they brainwashed by the news media? Even in your message you got many facts wrong. In 1962 the relationship between China and ussr already went sour. Both super powers at the time were on the side of India. The overall economy of India was stronger than China's. In fact, due to the failure of the great leap forward, there was widespread starvation in China. India was in a much better shape than China both internationally and domestically.

Like Ladakh and South Tibet (Arunachal Pradesh), Aksai Chin is traditional Tibetan territory and is part of China. But in 1865, just after the Second Opium War and the Taiping Rebellion, China was extremely weak, and the British colonist took advantage of the situation to further their invasion into Tibet. W.H. Johnson, an official of the British Survey of India, arbitrarily drew the "Johnson Line". It incorporated nearly 30,000 square kilometers of land, including Aksai Chin, into British India, turning Aksai Chin into British Indian Kashmir. The British authorities did not even notify the Chinese government of this unilateral demarcation, let alone request recognition. However, there had never been any signs of Indian occupation or symbol of sovereignty in Aksai Chin. In Nehru's own words, it was a barren and desolate land, "not even a blade of grass could grow." On the other hand, China resumed its control over the area since the founding of the PRC. When it started building roads connecting Xinjiang and Tibet in the 1950s and continued until the end, India was not even aware of it. From any perspective Aksai Chin has never been a part of India.

The Chinese army was simply more experienced and better led than the Indians. China had just fought a Civil War, stalemated the US/UN coalition in Korea, and conquered Tibet. Most of the Chinese troops were also used to the high altitude due to their time in Tibet. Meanwhile the Indians mainly dealt with disputes with Pakistan, so their best troops were also near the Pakistani border. This was the geopolitical equivalent to a teenager sucker punching a baby.

Nope the indian army was a 100 times more experienced. The only reason we lost was we had lack of advanced weapons and at that time only 1% of our GDP was spent on military while Mao had 4.2 million men in army and had done advancements. I don't know about indian army numbers at that time but I do know that in British Era there was 2.5 million men serving in army in WW2. Before leaving the British demobilized troops which was reduced to 350000 and to divided between india and Pakistan and also politicians did not do much for military. Otherwise indian armed forces are experienced. It's 1962 we lost. But just 3 yrs later we defeated Pakistan in 1965.

There's a small mistake in the animation, the Indian Army didn't have automatic small arms other than the light machine guns and a sprinkling of Thompson submachine guns and Sten guns during the war. One of the reasons why the Indian forward posts were overrun was that Indian soldiers had to fight Chinese soldiers wielding AK47 with Lee Enfield bolt action rifles. It was only in the aftermath of the war that the Indian govt replaced bolt action rifles with the British SLR, a license made FN FAL that is shown in the animation.

Impressive video, I am particularly fascinated by the diplomatic relationship the British Raj had with Tibet at that time, as you may already know throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, several English diplomats were sent to negotiate and consolidate their central Asian expansionism. One such case was the travels of Younghusband to llhasa which he made a book about. The cadastral boundaries of both the NWFP and the area of gilgit baltistan are contentious to say the least. The preceding boundaries stipulated by the British was the Johnson line proposed in the mid 19 century named after the British civil servant, Johnson. Quite a many conferences were held between the British and the qing on deciding this matter like the peking (1906, i believe) and shofuu conventions.

    Some inaccuracies in this vid:
    - 1914 Shimla Convention was a tri-party meeting between Britain, China and Tibet. British recognized Chinese rule over Tibet.
    - Border agreement wasn't ratified at Shimla, China refused to sign off and British didn't pursue further claim. Neither did British claim western sector Aksai Chin (Where Chinese built highway)
    - 40yrs later in 1951, newly independent India sent troops to occupy McMahon Line, and went beyond the line. India wanted to carve out Tibet as a buffer state, supported Tibetan revolt. India gave Jenkhentsisum a military base in Kalimpong, W. Bengal.
Dispute is entirely India's own doing.

Fun fact: China proposed to India multiple times to settle their disputes over South Tibet and Ladakh at the International Court of Justice. But India refused (actually, India never replied). Many experts believe the reason is simple, India doesn't have a case to defend their claims to Ladakh and South Tibet. This is all due to the fact that though British India used the McMahon Line as the de facto border between British India and China, the British Colonial Office in London never recognised the legitimacy of the McMahon Line signed between British India and Tibet, which they viewed as part of China

For those interested in knowing a version of history that differs from mainstream that pushes ideas like Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai; betrayal of Nehru by Mao; and stabbed at the back by China, pls watch podcasts on TH-cam featuring Mr. Bhasin. China was invited to 1914 Shimla Convention, it was a tri-party meeting between Britain, China and Tibet. (British recognized Chinese rule over Tibet)
Border agreement wasn't ratified at the meeting, China refused to sign off. And British didn't pursue further claim. Neither did British claim western sector Aksai Chin (Where Chinese built highway)
40yrs later in 1951, newly independent India sent troops to take McMahon Line, and went beyond the line. India wanted to carve out Tibet as a buffer state under its influence. Supported Tibetan uprising, provided them a base in Kalimpong, West Bengal.
