I am going to work on my slap technique in earnest, so thank you for this, Josh! I also need to tell you that I graduated from your Beginner to Badass course a year ago, and have been playing for 420 plus hours...(I am actually counting...I’m researching) and I play 53 bass lines all the way through, in as many different genres as I can, and I am really sounding good in that short amount of time! My pinky is my most valued finger, thanks for getting me started with good form! I moved from my SX to a Schecter Diamond B-2, circa 1998 and plays like butter! So you cross my mind a lot when gratitude strikes me!😁
I know Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Fox Taylor thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I am still struggling with "regular" slap and pop so maybe in a few years I can come back to this video haha But it is always good to see Josh and his enthusiasm! Almost finished your course BTW :D
You want scooped mids... so lower the mids and/or increase the bass and treble. You can slap any roundwound strings and sound pretty good, but if you are doing a Victor Wooten song, like in this video, lighter gauge strings help. Victor Wooten uses size .040-.095.
Josh, are the pdfs also available in the course beginner to badass ? if not have you considered creating a follow up course to the beginner to badass course? thx..I like your whole vibe and approach to the instrument, great welcoming helpful attitude!
Hi Don, I dont know if you find what he's doing here intimidating, but please watch the video he linked there. This guy is for real. I'm doing his beginner to badass course, I'm only on module 2 so I dont know if there is a slap section (I'm pretty sure there is) but just from watching that video on the bass buzz channel I'm actually doing it. No one is going to be asking me to be in their band anytime soon, but I'm finding getting a good sound and rhythm easier than I thought I would. I've never thought of myself as being very coordinated, but following Josh's approach is kind of proving me wrong, it feels pretty good.
@@joshfossgreen I've watched all your videos and love them! I'm about 4 months into playing the bass, and have come to realize just how much there is to learn. Who would have thought you have to spend as much effort to keep the bass quiet as you do to play it. My old trumpet was certainly not like that. I've also learned that slap, in the real world, is a very niche skill, one that's really not used that often to hold down the low end in a band. (Not that I expect to be playing in a band anytime soon.) As a result, I do really think my time is better spent mastering the traditional skills that get bass players hired. Victory has even talked about the jobs he lost because people only think of him as the fancy solo guy. So I'm not saying I'll never learn slap, just not anytime foreseeable. Again, love your videos.

Nice tone. How to you get it, Josh?
Does the type of string matter for slap bass and settings on the eq?
