BUT, ever since he begin his performance with DT, he always failed to play a beauty hihats sound like portnoy did or any drumers who covers any DT songs did. he’s an extraordinary drummer but he needs to change his way of hitting that hihats..
It’s all due to his setups, he needs to change to the “basic” layout instead of that symmetrical joke, especially with hi-hats and cymbals up on the ceiling
Too heavy - handed, Manjini is good but he is giving a bad impression on Portnoy's cymbal fill... So many parts are lacking.... # Nobody can replace Portnoy.
after seeing live and on youtube concerts of 2024 tours, Is evident how the band was unhappy of the tour situation with MM. They are so unengaged, so bored, its crazy. Love to know they wanted MP first and foremost for human reasons.
I think I’d prefer the ones performed by Sons of Apollo or Portnoy-Sherinian-MacAlpine-Sheehan, this one is too guitar-centric. Although it could be because of the sound quality, but I can’t hear how each instrument interacts with each other in their performance.
I wish he would have taken out those hi hat chirps. Mangini would have been so much better writing his own parts for all these songs. Having to play Portnoy's parts really cuffed him...

I've seen John play and he usually plays some of the most complicated and fast solos I've ever seen like it's nothing. But that was with portnoy. I still feel mangini was a bad fit. @Eagleeye Jones Might be an unpopular opinion but the band changed their direction a lot when Rudess joined, became a lot more unfocused/shreddy/wanky Not to say there aren't good songs and albums but if you listen to the albums chronologically you can totally feel the shift, also just wanted to say Sherinian is underrated
