    I’ve owned both over the years. Of the two I’m confident for my personal sound MXR is my go to. The Boss is good too, but not quite as sweet as the MXR234. You also get a bit more control over the sound with the MXR and I’ve noticed it takes less knob turning, than the BOSS as well. For me hands down MXR.

    The CE-2W is great because its alt modes expand the flavors a lot, especially the vibrato setting! The MXR is powerful because the EQs open up the sonic range ten fold. You cant go wrong with either. If you're watching after buying one, dont worry, you cant go wrong with one over the other ;)

    Excellent! I'm aware these are 2 of the best chorus pedals out there based on yt reviews. I know this is over a year old.

  • @joemanganese
    @joemanganese 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Careful. Mxr analog chorus has a very bad buffer and the tone is spoiled when the pedal is off. See discussions on the gear page. I sold mine. Ce2w is totally transparent when off. The mxr can be used only through a looper . Man advised .

    I never thought I would say this (as an owner of an old MIJ CE-2), but I think the MXR chorus is the better pedal here! I'd say it's a bit deeper and sweeter. And the added low/high/level knobs extend the possible range of sounds considerably. And c'mon, that blinding blue led is insanely cool ;-)

      I just upgraded to the MXR from a TC for my rhythm guitar board. I'm a bit of a modulation fanatic as "always on", switching between the mxr AnaCho and a flanger and/or using the EQD Organizer as an octave pad for faux 12 string sounds. I play a cigarbox, so anything to broaden my sound is definitely welcome.

    Anyone who says the MXR sounds thin or dark may not realize that the Low & High EQ knobs are cut-only. Turn them fully clockwise for flat frequency response. I like the Low EQ in the middle or slightly lower, to keep the low frequencies from getting muddy when using distortion/overdrive. Set the High EQ higher for more dramatic effect.

    Interesting comparison. I would say the Boss is more effect-y. It adds a different character. While the MXR is more natural to the original instrument. The MXR with all its knobs is able to better refine that natural ability. However, the Boss can offer a more extreme fast wobbly effect that sounds rad. I'd go with the MXR. :)

    I just got the MXR stereo chorus (the yellow 18v one) and it's my favorite one so far. To me something about it sounds better than this one even in mono.

    +MXR, I'd like to have the Juliana, but can't afford her. So getting the analog chorus, sounds pretty nice here.

    Both pedals are great but I love the way reverb affects the sound more
    And I wish you used stereo channel in this video 😔

    I just tried both of these in a store yesterday, oddly enough. I personally preferred the Boss, especially using the 1 and 2w circuits. I just felt it overall a more sweet and lush sound, and for whatever reason I was struggling to find appreciable chorus sounds from the MXR. Btw I have an MXR Sub Machine fuzz that I absolutely love!
    I was playing through a Mesa F-50 12” combo.

      Very much my experience as well. Tried the MXR first and thought it was nice and liked the EQ options. Then as soon as I activated the Boss it was an immediate, this is it, moment. Just had fullness to the sound that surrounded you where the MXR sounded more focused and narrow. I would not complain about having to use the MXR at all but the Boss just had IT. Found one used in great shape and a happy camper.

  • @guitar-phantom

    The BOSS CE-2 Waza is better because the chorus effect blends and gels with the strings. The problem is the CE-2 doesn't have a blend/effect knob which is important when playing with distortion.
    The "Dunlop" MXR seems to be too separate from the strings (not glued together), it has an effect knob which is useful when dialing in chorus with distortion - however the MXR has a poor buffer and sounds a little noisy or cheap with distortion.

    I'm cool with talking but some people dont want it. It never bothered me. I always like to hear your opinions . I own the MXR and really like it but never played the Boss Waza. Cool intro video

    • @MadebyMiike
      @MadebyMiike  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey mate, yeah, these No Talking videos are just leftovers etc. I shot a new Big Chorus Shootout a couple of days ago (should be online in a couple of days), but then I thought "Hey it would be cool to just show these 2", and so I did a quick one.
      I too reeeaally like the MXR. It can do both the Standard and the CE-1 setting of the Boss and sounds even better than the Boss (the MXR seems to have a really "strong" signal...hard to explain´, but the guitar sound seems enhanced because of it, while on the Boss it's clearly an effect over your guitar sound---does that make sense?), the only thing is the Boss has a third setting, the CE-1 Vibrato mode that sounds killer. So now I am facing the problem which one to keep. First world problems haha

      AllaboutafriendONLINE Ha ha. I understand how that goes. I have problems choosing my pedals too. Way to many out there to he happy, I wish I was one of those guys that can leave their board alone. Lol

    The Boss has a little more subdued quality (like it's further away) that sounds better when you are playing here by yourself. In a mix, I'm almost positive the MXR would cut through better. So, jamming at home, the Boss all day. Live? Probably the MXR. The Boss seems to have more degradation of the repeats. That's the whole point of an analog chorus. If you like cleaner repeats, the digital emulation of an analog can do that and more.

    • @martinthibodeaux4628

      An effects level knob? Like.... the depth knob??

    • @zplapplap
      @zplapplap 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Martin Thibodeaux No, a level knob, just like he said. The level knob allows a blending of wet and dry signal. Depth is a different parameter.

    • @rakusin
      @rakusin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, if you need the level/mix/blend knob and you like the CE-2 you can get a cheap Boss Super Chorus, pretty much same circuit with Level and Bright knobs. And also analog.
