Me and a buddy met him in the early 1990's in Cincinnati. He was with Dom Deluise who was doing some kind of guest star appearance with a company at the Cincinnati Convention center where we worked. He had asked us where he could smoke. We just made small talk while he smoked and he couldn't believe that my co-worker remembered some small t.v. appearance he made. It was pretty cool meeting him and he was friendly and had no problem talking with us. Great memory.

What struck me about Burt Reynolds was that he was so humble in person... if a crowd gathered he would always take time to talk to the people, take pictures, sign autographs... on the set to one of the films he starred, I have now forgotten which, he kept pissing off the director when he would stop production to talk to people who had gathered to catch a glimpse of a movie star... at one point a guy walked up with something for Burt to sign when they were working, the director yelled at Burt and said "IGNORE IT"! Burt turned and said "look, without him there is no Burt Reynolds".

My strange connection with Burt: he and my long-ago brother-in-law were best friends in elementary and high school. Then my other brother-in-law shared a fence line in Jupiter Farms with Burt's ranch. Burt opened a feed and western-wear store on the ranch for the convenience of his animal-owning neighbors. My husband and I had a mini-ranch in Indiantown and always bought from his feed store. Then .... my husband worked as a stage carpenter at his dinner theater during the Burt and Sally years. Though I didn't know him that closely, I can totally confirm that he was a genuinely nice guy who always thought of others.

I have TMJ so can attest that when it flares you can't even open your mouth. Puree food only. Very painful. I loved Cannonball Run and Smokey and The Bandit. Never bought into the whole manly sexy star. I was never attracted by his looks lol

    • @chrisperrien7055

Some girls/women find hairy dudes sexy , some girls/women don't.
The same ideal apply's* to men, about "hairy girls/women"", some do, some don't.
But everybody should like wire-haired Terrier's. LOL
*- not sure about grammar here- "apply's" or "applies", I am not an English major.

@@chrisperrien7055 LOL You are so right and I never considered that thought. You really put it into a different perspective. Your English is great. Applies is the word you were looking at. You have a safe day. We are in lockdown here.

First Reynolds movie I remember seeing as a young kid was Smokey and The Bandit. Fell in love with that car and movie as a young kid. That was in the late 80's probably 10 about 10 years after the movie was made. They played it on one of the local channels movie nights. We recorded the movie on a VHS tape. I watched that movie hundreds of times and now have all 3 Bandit movies on DVD.

Smokey and the Bandit was my favorite. It came out during a very influential time in my life and it shaped a lot about me. I've owned 9 '78 to '81 Trans Ams and several Firebirds. And I used to be hell on wheels. All thanks to Burt and maybe to Bo and Luke Duke as well!

I knew I had to have that car. I met my husband walking to the store. He was driving a Trans Am. We both loved that car and we miss it!

I grew up in the late 70's-late 80's, and my mom wouldn't let me watch his movies because of she only saw him as a man trying to get notches on his belt. Over the years, however, I've learned about him and watched many of his movies form the 70's. He was underrated, underappreciated, and dismissed as a cocky sex-hunk ONLY. I think the world owes him an apology.

I grew up down in Florida and saw Smokey and the Bandit in a theater..
I also remember working at a car wash in Jupiter Florida that was right down the road from his ranch.. Got to see/meet a few people he worked with when they brought their cars in to get washed..
And yes, Loni did take him to the cleaners.. There was no reason for her to do him that way.. In my opinion she can go to he**..
Never really was a fan of hers..
