I just finished... AMAZING this is something you can TRULY show to someone who is not even familiar with RTS games, or is not much of a gamer, while being able EXCITE them about it.
Love the video. What I love the most is that you don’t assume the viewer has any previous knowledge of anything in the game let alone RTS games in general.
"even if you've never played a computer game in your life", I really love this video series! You've done a very great job! I myself have played some RTS before as a kid(Not seriously at all though), so I obviously knew some of the stuff. Really love the concept of starting at the real basics though, like really really love it! Actually get tears in my eyes thinking about it, it's just so respectful and to be honest frickin beautiful! I just want to hug you bro!
Thanks Yoshi! That means a lot especially coming from someone who's spent so much time helping to build the TL.net community (and indirectly helping me learn this game). :)
As a GM player who has played StarCraft for 15+ years, I tried explaining StarCraft to my wife and found it very difficult. Holy balls this video breaks it down perfectly
Thank you for the feedback and for pointing this out. I have added a warning text in an annotation at the start of the video. Unfortunately TH-cam does not allow replacing an existing video, but I might be able to solve it permanently in the future. For now, I've learned a valuable lesson! :)
Thanks man, that makes me happy to hear. :) I agree the odds of me making it "big" are slim and I'm not counting on it... I'll just aim to make the best possible material I can for newcomers to get into this amazing game. If I can help someone get excited about StarCraft, then whatever happens I'll be satisfied. :D
I was quite the SC2 fan for periods of time on and off. I've played all 3 campaigns multiple times and also the Nova pack. Watched GSL tournaments and sometimes IEM tournaments, often from start (Ro32) to finish (grand finals), notably the periods 2011 (old school GSL), mid 2014 (swarm host snoozefest, that $100k/$0 cash prize IEM anti-climax grand finals sOs v.s. herO), 2018 (Maru/Serral domination), 2020 (TY domination). I no longer follow SC2 anymore, but I still have very fond memories of the times watching GSL with Tastetosis. It's nice to see that aside from your extremely high quality videos on Final Fantasy, you devote some love to SC2 as well! Keep it up!
Thanks so much for this video. I've been playing league of Legends and many other esport titles for 5 years but this is the only game I've yet to try. This video helped a lot! Thank you.
In my school we have a gaming club I'm learning star craft because we are going to enter competitions to raise money for more consoles and games for the club I can't wait to start practicing and playing Starcraft so I came here this video was very helpful and I can only find instructions in Korean not Japanese or English my main languages so thanks for helping me
Before watching I would lose to the basic AI. After learning the bindings and practicing the macro cycle I was able to beat the easiest to second last hardest AI in Mele over 5 hours
I grew up playing those games and C&C super fun nights growing up and hours of strategy in glad I found these games again and surprised to see it has tournaments and everything it's crazy it used to be lan games now it's online across the world
had to subscribe because this video was so good and has so little views. you deserve more fame with your incredibly good skills on guidance. this video is just that kind of gaming video i would show my mother lol :P. keep on going i hope you get more noticed. -seba, Finland
Really excellent speaking and explanations,I play Dota 2,and heard that playing StarCraft can improve your micromanagement skills. Thanks for this great explanation :)
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I was worried about that but decided upon trying it anyway... now I know not to do that again for future videos! I might fix it in this video as well but I'm not sure how to do that without replacing the video entirely on TH-cam. :/
Only thing i would add honestly is the lack of emphasis in the single player component. I myself enjoy watching the competitive side but never got into playing it myself for most of the time, yet love starcraft from the campaigns since the original game. Nowadays theres even mods to play the originals on the SC2 engine. Other than that great video.
as someone who has never played, this looks like the most complex, most strategic, most high IQ, most micro-managing game to ever exist. like LoL x20 and I've never played LoL
@@Altercate oh ok, I don’t think I’ll try it right now as I have so many games in rotation, actually I need to start focusing on fewer games so I can get decent at some lol
If I have played games like Age of Empires and Empire earth will this game have less of a learning curve for me ? Also which empire sould I use and get better with if I prefer an all out attack method of fighting?
Zerg would likely be your race of choice for all-out attacks. They generally have weak units, but they have /many/ units. Zerg rush is a very popular term and it remains true to the name to this day. A proper massing of Zerglings and Banelings to complement one another in a timed attack early in the game on the enemies base, and you will have assured victory. Keep in mind, Terran and Protoss also have "timing attacks" and they can easily defend by reinforcing their own offensive fronts.
I know from reading your responses that you're aware of the flashing issue, but I think it's important to have an annotation at the beginning of the video that gives a warning, and or something in the description as well. It really just comes out of nowhere, and you really don't want people who actually have a problem with this, have something come of it. No trying to be rude, as again, I see that you've acknowledged the problem, but a warning is needed I feel.
@@Altercate nice i just downloaded it, and about to start but i have a question, not sure if you really like the lore, but who are the good guys in the story?
@@stroman2154 That's a really good question! StarCraft has a lot of moral ambiguity in it, meaning that no side is truly good or evil. That said, in the campaigns, there are some characters like Jim Raynor (Terran) and Artanis (Protoss) who are the most "hero-like" in the story! The StarCraft story is really good imo and I definitely suggest you play through all three campaigns! If you're interested in the backstory, the original StarCraft and the expansion, Brood War, have an even better story.
There is single player! The game and its two expansions each have a single player campaign that tell some really great stories. I highly recommend playing through them.

But really, anything doing an RTS format is a ripoff of Dune 2. Which C&C And Dune 2 were both done by Westwood soooo...
But first we must ask ourselves, 'What is Starcraft?'

This is way too high quality of a video for such little views
I wouldn't say "high" quality with the lack of music, but yes a lot of work was put into this.
this is a tutorial video, not a montage video. Music (imo) usually doesnt go very well in tutorial videos
ok then, "lack of sound" bothered me.
Are you still alive 7 years later
Not little views anymore 👍

clear explanations, Altercate =) but yeah I agree with aharapu, your voice sounded a little more tense than you usually speak. XD
This is the best beginners guide out there thanks for the help :)
Great video! Simple yet detailed and substantial explanation. And on a side note, I like your slight accent.

can you play against the ai? and if you can, can there be like a 3v3 mode against other ai’s?
Yup, you can play against the AI, either with human allies or AI allies!

kinda looks like a super complex CoC
So it's not even a shooting game(which I assume from the title screen). It's a board game.
Pretty much! 😂
