I like the older Polaris machines like yours...pre utv days. I have a 1995 Xplorer 400 4x4 that I bought brand new and still have. After 7k in trail miles she still runs. It eats voltage regulators and blows all the lights on it. New regulator about every 4 years.
Warning warning warning Chek the “crankcase”engine oil on your Polaris400 not the 2stroke oil. The oil in the bottom of the engine base Yes this is true below the carburetor there is a red dipstick you can only see it with the carburetor off. If it’s still here!! There is oil in the engine base for balancer shaft. And nobody knows it If you pull this dipstick and only few drops of prestone in the stick you have major water pump seal problem! long term reliability of these machine are questionable. But back in the days they were powerfull comfortable machine. Full 4x4. Fast high ground clearance. My girlfriend dad got the same atv and he loves it. We rebuilt engine last year because he don’t know about the engine oil and we rebuilt it before catastrophic failure. Have a good day 👍
That blue trail boss scrape the tank like you were saying. But after you're done with all that heat it up with like a hand held blow torch or heat gun and it'll bring the color back instead of being faded and dull. But don't heat it to hot where you melt it you just want to warm it up hot enough to bring the color back.
Broooo I just picked up a 99 Polaris xplorer 400 2 stroke air cooled ( polaris 45th edition) and after brake work and tighten the chain... it's a animal! Everyone loves the 2 stroke sound lol they are surprised
I had the same exact quad be careful some are the most reliable quads ever others will have electrical issues constantly mainly the stator it usually starts with a dead battery constantly then it moves into the cdi box and other issues
I LOVE MINE!! I bought 2000 Xplorer 400 for $850, with racing cam, a snorkel,, a lift kit and Super Swamper Vampire mud tires! I’d never owned one tricked out like this before and I love it!! I HATED how it looks when I first got it and had plans of selling the wheels and tires, the snorkel and the lift kit... Hell!! I’ll learn to live with not liking how it looks.
Joe use water and dish soap with 800 grit sandpaper it should clean ur tank up really nice, don’t go lower than 600 grit though &work ur way up on grit till 1200 and it should bring back a shine
Good luck man I had one of these about ten frikin drive chains to look after and to get to them y you have to tear the whole machine apart but good machine when it feels like working 👍😁
Trail boss is looking better. I use playing cards or something similar stuck in between the tire and rim to get all the rim painted without getting any on the tires. I've also made that mistake changing my oil, pumped 6 qts of synthetic out on the garage floor lol. Keep up the great vids 👍🏼
Dude I think you would really like the Polaris Sport 400. I have had a Scrambler 400 4x4 . but thats just more shit to break and the front end comes up in the mud anyway . In the corners it takes alot of leaning unless you time the leggy ass throttle response right . Once the tires break loose wich doesnt seem to be an issue with these , sliding them is easy .
I have a 1996 polaris Sportsman 400cc. Would never replace it by even a 2020. This ATV is a TANK. Just today I have fuel not going to carburetor.... does it have a fuel pump?? Looking around for TH-cam school👍 Note; her teeth are totally awsome 💥

The older Polaris electrical connectors were not water proof and were bad for corrosion. Because they didn't waterproof them people thought cleaning the ends would fix the problem but it actually corroded up into the wires. The newer ones are water proofed and no more issues. Check the wiring at the connectors and switch and you will probably find the problem.
you gone quad crazy, looks a contraption the 4x4 a gazillion things to go wrong with it. my thing with 2 strokes is the ease they are to get going. the more parts, the more problems you encounter. you are going to buy a scab at some point with the things your picking up and it’s going to eat your profit. a simple fix turns into big expensive parts purchase.

To get that stuff of the tank on the 250 use fast orange and it gets it right off I used it on my three wheelers tank and it came off no problem
