- Downing Street has denied the Government is trying to pass the buck to prison governors in the face of criticism over freeing criminals from jail early.
Government officials stressed that prison leaders had a “veto” to block offenders being released earlier than planned if they posed a risk to the public.
Chair of the Justice Select Committee Sir Bob Neill joins Talk’s Jeremy Kyle to analyse the state of UK prisons and defendents being held in police custody due to overcrowding.

Deportation rather than prison for a fair few would help.
If they're not UK citizens, they already are deported.
10,000 prosoners are foreign born and all could have been deported.
Would be a drop in the sea.
The Tories are responsible for our whofully inadequate infrastructure, we need more Prisons, more Schools, more Hospitals, more Police Stations, the list goes on and on!!
What happened to the 8 mega prisons built during lockdown?
They aren't conservative
Under cover Marxists.....not played their full hand yet
Conservatives have never invested in infrastructure
alleged abuse !
Police just will not risk their careers with men like him judging them from their comfy chairs.
I understand, that there is already a law, that you can get 10 years porridge for just carrying a knife.
They promise more hospitals ? Where are they ? And as for prison build a hundred your going to need them
Build more prisons.
Problem is nobody wants to be a prison officer!
Stop keeping and holding onto foreign criminals. Deport them at first crime
@@jaybeee789 Can you blame them? Barely above minimum wage to get threatened and attacked by people who are there because they have a history of violence. It's a dangerous job. I wouldn't do it
@stevec6427 Can blame them one bit. I couldn't do that job, that's for sure.
@@jaybeee789 I'm big and ugly enough to do it but I certainly wouldn't while prison staff are paid less than our local supermarket is advertising for warehouse workers
More prisons, police stations, courthouses, schools, universities, hospitals, houses, car parks, GP surgeries and dental practices.
Tories closed and sold of large numbers of each of those
Conservatives have never invested in infrastructure. We have a never ending cycle where Labour invest and build up infrastructure then tories sell it off or let it crumble. If we need more prisons, then I hate to say it (I'm no fan of Starmer) then we need a Labour government.
CAN THE POLICE BE STOPPED. AND. ? SEARCHED ???
IF. ITS. THE. LAW. FOR. ALL
do the police stab people? muppet!
They can but only by another police officer
@@stevec6427 BIG. PROBLEM. ???
FOR. PUBLIC
Why build prisons theres plenty of islands up north of Scotland uninhibited put them on them give them basic accommodation and food thats what was done in the past no chance of escape because of the sea problem solved
Most of those islands are privately owned and/or inhabited by decent people. Why should they be turfed out of their homes?
@@stevec6427 privately owned by who and there are plenty which are not inhabited unless you're talking about birds or sheep it worked in the past and there's still a prison on one of those islands which dates back to the napoleon's days and is unhabited oh i forgot the ones which are owned banks and lards is it
It's simple, you get caught carrying a knife with NO good reason, then you go to prison for FIVE years, that would certainly make a difference. The government and justice system needs to grow some balls!!!!!!!!!!
Chaos out of order.
Break down of society gives them a chance to go full totalitarian
Prisons are full already
