@@TheOvernowhere It's called the relative minor or major. The relative minor scale is always three semitones down from the major scale you started with.
@@TheOvernowhere Let's take a look at A minor: A B C D E F G A... Okay, then let's look at C major: C D E F G A B C... As you can see, they are the same notes. "A minor" is basically a C major scale with A as the starting point. It's also called A aeolian Those scales with different starting notes are called modes: If you start C major scale from C, it's called C ionian. That's the 1st mode If you start C major scale from D, it's called D dorian, 2nd mode If you start C major scale from E, it's called E phrygian, 3rd mode If you start C major scale from F, it's called F lydian, 4th mode If you start C major scale from G, it's called G mixolydian, 5th mode If you start C major scale from A, it's called A aeolian, 6th mode (also known as natural minor). So if you want to find out what is the relative minor to C major, you just have to look what is the sixth note of that scale. Sixth note of C major scale is A so the relative minor to C major would be A minor Another example: to find out the relative minor of G major, just take a look what is the sixth note of G major scale. G A B C D E F# Seems like it's E, so relative minor of G major is E minor. So if some song was in E minor, you'd set the autotune to G scale, since it has the same notes as E minor scale. Major and natural minor are the most common modes, but let's just take a look at other mode, dorian, which has traditional sea shanty sound. Drunken sailor for example: Let's say it's in D dorian. You would set the autotune to C major because it's the same notes as D dorian since D is the second note of C major scale and dorian is the second mode. If you were to sing Scarborough Fair in A dorian, you'd set the autotune to G major, because G major has the same notes as A dorian. G major scale started from the second note is A Dorian Scale. It's the same notes. Stevie Wonder's Uptight is in Bb Phrygian (3rd mode), so you'd have to set the autotune to Gb major, because Gb majors third note is Bb. In other words, if you start Gb major from the third note, Bb, you get the Bb Phrygian. Hope this wasn't too complicated :D
