Berthe Morisot, History's Forgotten Impressionist | Behind the Masterpiece

  • Berthe Morisot was one of the founding members of the Impressionists and a true innovator amongst a talented group, so why is it that her peers have risen to fame much more prominently than she has? Her works are truly breathtaking, and in this video, we will take a closer look at one of her most famous pieces-"Woman at Her Toilette." The motif of her choice was women; at all stages of their lives. As a woman herself, she could access the private moments of the females around her and painted them without taking away their power, without objectifying them, as was done by her fellow artists.

I got to learn more about Morisot from seeing her in other impressionists' paintings A women's greatest asset back then was being truly beautiful.. But as a painter I think Mary Cassat.deserved more recognition... Also for anyone who want to learn more about great female artists, from the impressionist era, check the largely forgotten, Marie Bracquemond, who was famous in her lifetime for both canvas and pottery/ceramics art..

My favorite artist! The first time I saw her work was in London. It was the painting of two young women in a boat. And then I went to Marmottan in Paris to see more.

My favourite Impressionist, who never 'wandered' as did Pissarro, Renoir and others. If she had been a man she would now be a household name - a true Impressionist.

I love her work, you read a lot into her through your contemporary view. Look at her technical work, she was amazing, and yes the world was a hard places, she still was in the 1%

Brilliant! Most informative, succinct, and insightful. Thank you. However, Morisot's superb landscapes and still lives should be mentioned too. ('Berthe Morisot: A Collection of 302 Works', on You Tube)

Great video! Loved it. But her first name is pronounced with a hard t (and a silent h and silent e).

Morisot was able to portray sensuality without it being overtly sexual, giving her work a lightness not found in much of her contemporaries pieces. I think it's a pity she is not more well known.

Documentary spoilt completely by the crap music. Could not watch much because of it.
More suitable for Laurel and Hardy.
