This is some Netflix level high quality documentary right here. Can't believe I only found this channel now. Thank you for the great educational content.
Saturn or Saturn Devouring His Son, a 1636 painting by the Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens, is much more emotionally moving than the one presented here by Goya.
Life is tragic and grotesque, powerful people are greedy, perverse and violent, love is transitory, unhappiness is more constant than not being there, relatives and friends die leaving us alone and our dreams end, are interrupted or turned into nightmares. It is inevitable that art reflects all of this. Everything that is ugly, scary, strange, repulsive and threatening captures our attention and makes us wake up to unpleasant realities that exist beneath the surface of our illusions. But it also makes us enjoy happy moments and value more what is beautiful, simple, natural, innocent and good.
I have seen the expression on The face of The Painter before many times. It is the look of a child who is tired and grumpy. All my kids looked like this when I woke them up early to drop them off at a sitter on the way to work.
yuko tatsushima and aleksandra waliszwska works brings me a feeling of dread and despair, the have quite a lot of eerie paintings would be great if you took a look at them!
This is a good documentary. I am delighted to continue my art studies on You Tube while I live in Bali. I think that all the art videos need to be updated by providing longer viewing time when discussing an individual painting . If this is not possible it might help viewers to have an addendum video that shows each image discussed longer isolated from words and distractions. I suspect this idea will not fly high with you or other presenters but I hope you will at least consider finding a way for the audience to interact with the images .

Maybe the horse, in Fuselis painting, is the literal “mare” in “nightMARE”

That portrait of Pope Innocent X looks like the Ark of the Covenant was opened before him.
