Great video...helpful to see what you did when a couple of them got tough. Always fun to see someone having a good time in the shop. Thanks for the content.
I did leaf springs and shocks and it was a bit of work. Took my time and just kept chipping away. The leaf was broken on the front passenger eye so I was able to get it off and then cut the bushing away. Then found the split of the steel eye and spread that open with a hammer and screwdriver. Then came the heat on the bolt and out it came. It’s a bit time consuming but my local spring shop had quoted me over a grand to get it done. The new springs and shocks fixed the sag and the clunking on the right side over bumps with any passengers. Well worth the efforts.
@@JeepinJimmy oh absolutely. I always just say that for every buck you spend on parts double it to include labor for a mechanic. I’ve spent a few grand just on parts. I’d be 4-5 grand in if I didn’t do it myself. Scary. I’m not complaining on mechanics either. I just couldn’t afford to use one on the regular. They definitely have to make a living!
Spider friend at 4:07! lol Thanks for showing the steps on this! Planning on picking up an XJ next spring for a summer project. Hope to get it ready in time for the snow to fly! What paint are you using on the axel?
Fudge. I’m bout to embark on this same hell whole. Plus I’m doing the entire front end. Every moving part from steering box to the brake pads. All new! I should do a video. But I don’t know how to edit and it would be a 84 hr video. lol.
I just did the leafs on my 96. Soaked the with PB Blaster for days and used heat. Took some muscle but all bolts came out. I think I got lucky. Somebody told me if I was going to use a cut off wheel that close to the gas tank to fill the gas tank up as far as possible. A full tank is far less dangerous than an empty tank full of fumes.

Right on man! Its ACE rust stop satin black
Why did you pull the rear end out?
great job ! To get out my leaf spring bolts was far the worst job I ever done to my XJ
Thanks man! It is definitely one of the worst projects if it has never been done before lol
Love the gold XJ, hoping to get a c5 and do a build similar to yours
Right on man!

Interesting Ill have to remember that! Glad it worked out good for you!
Do I have to remove the drum brakes and axle to change leaf springs
Not at all! I just pulled mine so i could clean it up and paint it
How many real life work days was it to get that done? I have fantasies of doing this to my XJ also
This was all done in a day!
Made it look easy; congrats on the new parts👍😊
You can easily do it in an afternoon as long as you have all the parts, tools. And know how.
Can you give a link for the shock bolt fork? One of my bolts broke
Many different companies make it. Search "XJ shock flag nut"
@@JeepinJimmy Found it, thank you.
Hey jimmy, I tried to find out online but couldn’t, what did you do to your axle besides paint it?
Just paint! Also wanted to get it out of the way
What leaf springs did you get
Crown Heavy Duty rear leaf srpings (CWA-4886186AA)
Loosen quarter turn, spray more, tighten quarter turn, spray, work it out bit by bit.
Do you have a list of all the parts i need? Im going to do the same i do like how it looks on point! Thanks!
Rear suspension hardware kit from Iron Rock Offroad, Elcheapo Monroe shocks from Rock Auto, and Crown Heavy Duty rear leaf srpings (CWA-4886186AA)
"All that time just to be safe... not worth it" 😆
quick tip dont just anti-seize the thread. anti-seize the whole bolt so it will not get rusted to the bushing metal center.
Ah good point!
Damn Jimmy,are those stock springs?😁😁
Yeah I just accidentally ordered the heavy duty ones haha
Bring it to Alabama 😊 I want to see it in person
On it!
You just pissed that spider off. He said f this shit I’m repelling down n going over to that corvette over there!!
so torque spec is one ugga?
Indeed
Ugga dug. Don't do dugga, bad juju
Installing new shock. "The torque spec for these are" just hammers it home with an impact. 👀
Torque spec on these are... TAKATAKA 😂
Firstly ppe is for the weak secondly you own a Milwaukee Under hood light but not a Milwaukee sawzall?? Common man
Thats the new Milwaukee sawzall and definitely not a Craftsman
Penetrating fluids do not do jack shit in the Northeast
It definitely feels like it sometimes haha
